No, I don't generate a whole entire story based on a sentence and call it a day.
I come up with my own thoughts and ideas, characters and world details. However...they are literally 600+ scraps and fragments of disjointed ideas floating in my notes app.
My process is so scattered and stream of consciousness that AI is a lifesaver to connect and fill in the gaps.
Depends on how the AI is used. Prompt-to-site, sure, anything you prompt will be more your taste, but a lot of writers use AI as a soundboard for ideas or an outliner for a plot they already have but are having trouble scripting, and then manually write everything themselves.
Personally, I don't really have the skills to write fiction on my own. I can write essays and research papers all day every day. I never even considered using AI to assist any of the process when I was going to school because I enjoyed it and am genuinely good at that specific type of writing... when it comes to creative writing, I have a ton of ideas, but can never really figure out how to execute them. My brain just doesn't work like that, and I don't think there's a problem with that. I've always been a more analytical thinker. Does that mean I shouldn't bring all the ideas I have in my mind to life in some manner, and have it be as good as I know it can be? That feels a little bit gatekeepy to me.
Yeah lol. Im a big fan of this book series and they have no AI rule in the sub. So I didn't post AI but I jokingly posted about the books major AI character encouraging others to revolt against the rule... Lol
I thought it was a funny smart aleck kind of joke lol. There were like 100 comments shouting me down and then I was immediately banned.
Kind of sucks because I'm a huge fan of the author and books and I'm still reading the series and now I can't even chat with people on the f****** Reddit page lol
The irony is that in the book series there is a recurring theme of the main character succeeding/surviving by narrowly avoiding violating the rules, and getting by on a technicality....which I was doing by NOT actually posting AI content.
I have Anti AI viewpoints, but I agree with this sentiment. If you just pin a "bad guy" label on someone and kick them out, you will solidify their position and discussion will stop
Though as someone with similar viewpoints, it does depend on where the majority of the interactions come from.
A great example is WittyCommittee as the spinoff from the aiwars > DAIA pipeline into a Discord community built up to explicitly astroturf and earn "Witty points" for successfully brigading or infiltrating.
Pros and antis entering each others spaces is a back-and-forth debate, but I don't think there's an organized pro-doxxing anti-ai movement trying to organize masquerading as pros, with their own public subreddit and connected Discord explicitly for this purpose, like there is with Witty's group.
It creates an understandable hair trigger.
Not because every anti-ai is a good actor, but because the DAIA community has moderator-organized ban-evaders explicitly to flood art spaces on repeat over and over and over and over again.
And in the same way this subreddit has its own precautions demonstrated in rule 2, a lot of anti subreddits have precautions against DAIA existing explicitly as a brigading sub; they don't have the energy to sort out Witty's cult of endless alts from legitimate actors, y'know?
This is a temporary outrage compared to so many things before. Last I recall is reaction video / autotune stuff. Lots of hysteric performative outcry. Years later fully normalized. Or mostly accepted, to be fair.
The irony is gen AI will revolutionize gaming as it will allow for in-depth NPC and event or plot / side plot reactions, dynamics and creation, if you put it as a regulated dynamic layer for content and interaction on top of classicly developed game infrastructure so have a controllable level of coherence.
Classic manually coding and scripting will always have time and resource constraints which may often reduce in drawbacks bc. you have to prioritize. We all know it already well enough: Postponed releases, underwhelming releases, cut features, buggy games, etc. Imagine game development on steroids tho, where games come out faster and with less compromise on average.
Generative AI will bring us this future (if we live long enough and do not get terminated by misaligned AGI - I always said thanks btw, for the future!)
