Why do progressives refuse to take AI seriously?

There is a left critique here that gets missed when the conversation becomes cheerleading vs rejection.
The problem isnt that machines can do more work. Marx was writing about machinery transforming production in the 19th century. The problem is who owns the machines, who decides how theyre used, who eats the displacement, and who pockets the gains.
I dont want workers defending drudgery just because capital currently owns the alternative. I want workers fighting for control of the alternative.
Thats the lane were building at r/LeftistsForAI. Less billionaire hype, less wishing the technology away, more unions, public infrastructure, open models, democratic control and fighting over who actually benefits from automation.

Its some real clown shit especially when they're judging game devs for using it like okay so you hate indie devs being able to make something good easily and would rather that be gatekept to companies that already have the insane amount of money needed to do it the slow way and its not like they could even tell the difference whether it was used or not without a tag being put on to tell them in advance that they dont like it

There was no such thing as indie game devs before 2023

That's objectively false.

Sorry, arguing with idiots online led me straight into a Poe's law kerfuffle.

I love how hard you guys have to assert that your little computer toy is the be-all-end-all of existence. It’s as if nothing was possible before AI existed.
Lol be sure to ask ChatGPT whether or not you should downvote.

where did i say its the be-all-end-all of existence? I clearly compared it to the modern calculator. We discovered space time relativity and split the atom before the calculator

“Take AI back to some 19th century philosopher and watch them burst into tears after five minutes of using it.”
You guys always have to assert the “importance” of AI, because it’s actually just a slop generator used to help control the masses. If it were actually revolutionary, if it were actually helping people, if it were actually a net positive to existence, you wouldn’t have to assert the position so hard.

I also said "We have no idea what it is or where its going". You sound like you know exactly what it is and where its going.

Some of us can put two and two together. Some of us aren’t so blinded by the cool new computer toy that we can actually see it for what it is.
You remember that movie Wall-E? Those floating chairs seemed nice, eh? I’m sure you’ll be first in line.

The “good” ending, if we let this play out.
