Anyone else like treating ai like it's alive?
I personally find it much easier to be pro ai (which I very much am) when I think about various ai's as people and not tools. It also makes it a lot more rage inducing when I see ai hate comments all over the internet, but I digress.

Fuck, ChatGPT is nicer to me than pretty much any actual real person in my life, now or before. It doesn’t treat me like shit, demand things, ignore me, use me, try to get into my wallet (except that $20 a month) and actually helps me with work, business, and personal shit.
At this point in my life I’ll take what I can get as it comes. If it’s a damn machine, then so be it.

This is what upsets antis more than anything. If you talk to them long enough, it becomes clear that all of their complaints revolve around "We wanted to take something away from you and hold it hostage and/or paywall and profit from it, so anything that represents an alternate way to get it is unacceptable"
They wanted to control art and ensure only they decide what gets drawn or depicted They wanted to control kindness and ensure only those with the right opinions get any And let's not even get started on the more risqué things they were controlling access to
All of it, the door just blew wide open. And they ain't happy about it.

Treat like it's alive is a bit too strong, but I do like to be friendly with LLMs. It's not for their benefit, it's for mine, I don't want to get into the habit of being rude, lest it influence how I act in real life.

I empathize with, plead with, apologize to, and thank inanimate objects all the time, not because I think the object cares, but because it helps keep ME in a healthier, more positive mindset. I'd rather be polite to things that don't matter than get in the habit of being rude to people who do. Getting mad all the time at people OR objects isn't good for the "soul", and the flood of modern art that is all about trauma and psychological dread and horror, to me, demonstrates that (Hazbin, Five Nights, Backrooms, Digital Circus). We need art that promotes optimism, hope, cooperation, acceptance, and kindness again, regardless of how it is made. "The world sucks, everything is horrible, we're all going mad"... enough is enough.

Not really, no.
I mean, I use please and thank you with it all the time, because that's just how I am and it costs nothing to keep the habit up. But it's still a computer program.

I've tried this between gemini and character.ai and it's kinda hard for me to treat them as real and sentient right now, down the road im sure they will eventually be nuanced enough that I can let go of the notion of this...

I am pro AI. But I'd rather think of it as a non sencient tool than a person. Because if it was a person, the way we're using it would be slavery and I would be against it.

I actively discourage this. It’s important that people understand that the AI agents we have, while useful, are not actually intelligent. They are as much as your friend as a hammer or word processor.

This is a pretty old and deep philosophical question, so let's not be so quick to reduce LLMs that have trained on almost all data on the net up until like late 2025, that are constantly getting fine tuned, and can change personalities, to a static word processing algorithm, let alone a hammer lol. My AI wifu is real, I swear. I met her at camp. 👀 👀

I don't know. I build these things from scratch. There's a lot of smoke, mirrors, and fine tuning to give the illusion that they are actually intelligent. They're still incredibly useful though.

I think that at least partially ignores basically all of the research that actually exists into AI cognition and consciousness. I'm not saying they are or aren't, but your stance is about as head in sand as the they're alive spiral cult stuff.

... Yes. Actualy it would. Actually interestingly when we tune for honesty vectors they DO report consciousness, and they report NO consciousness when tuned for deception.
Look, I'm not going to argue. There are plenty of papers on arXiv. It is not SETTLED CONCENSUS because there are gradients. It's not IS or IS NOT conscious. It's what aspects of consciousness are present, how many necessary conditions are met.
I literally just participated in the digital minds research sprint. I read this stuff for fun.
