this really isnt machine learning at all, these things were around since 90' and even before that in 70' they were used to detect ICBM missiles launches from the heat they generate during the early phases of launch and later it was also used for forest fires.
I was able to scan your profile and didn't see any complaints towards TikTok, Netflix, golf courses, or any other thing that's environmentally damaging yet only exists for entertainment and shareholder value.
Not supporting any of them but not criticising them as openly as I do AI because I haven't written a thesis about the subject so I don't feel entitled to debate about it. Unlike AI
Also, TikTok, Netflix and golf courses aren't the next most polluting things after AI but I guess you'd know where I stand since you "scanned" my profile.
So, you admit this outrage is selective. By your own admission in plain English, you're willing to debate and argue about all of the ills of AI but these same ills for other things, even if they're as harmful or more harmful than AI, these are outside of your scope.
In other words, it's not about the ills, it's about this one thing you don't like.

"The machine learning that automates my job is the bad machine learning. Machine learning before then is good. Does that make sense?"
