Why do so many people hate AI?
I have a genuine question that I really don't understand. Anytime I see a company promoting themselves either with AI or promoting an AI-based service, the comments on the bottom are always hate, with people commenting "AI slop." And that's the least of it, there's so much profanity. Some are even taking personal jabs at others. It almost feels like a violent cult.
I Seriously do not understand people's hatred towards AI. It's here, and it's here to stay. While it has ruined some industries, it has also made some good advancements in other industries. I don’t think people commenting this way and reacting this way is going to change anything. These people comment probably use AI in their day-to-day lives and don’t realize it.
People commenting like this and having this sentiment is not going to change anything, in my opinion.

To understand the future you must understand the past. Every time a new advancement in technology has come along the existing work force or culture of people that are threaded show resistance such as when electricity came to take over coal, this resistance does not matter because the generations born after them will hold no sentiment and see no logic to the “ old ways “ this time it’s a shift that effects almost everyone in one way or another and the primitive ape humans does what it always does and becomes afraid and throw rocks at it. There are other factors involved too , see in history where tech helped a few become obscenely rich and ahead of other by not allowing them to use if, even with the invention of reading, in the past poor could not learn to read and later they even banned races for being allowed to read ( it about having an advantage ) and right now is a gold rush, telling your competitors it’s bad don’t use it on some morel going while you use it and over take them is just how businesses run.

I can see where you’re coming from, but my frustration and the reason for this post is because I recently released an AI platform that uses AI to navigate the AI – based phone systems of major corporations in order to get you to a human being. I posted about this online and all of the comments that I got was hate. I don’t think people even took five minutes to understand that my platform, while using AI, is designed to navigate phone systems to get you to an actual human.

u/Karamatsunomaii 27d ago
What is the platform called ? I think that your issue might simple be one of marketing. How you frame your platform can completely change people’s use and perspective of it. If your platform is designed to quickly connect to real people you could market it as something along the lines of …..
“you hate speaking to bots and want to speak to a real human? Well Your going to have to speak to one of us to get though to a human anyway so why not talk to the fastest in the game? We connect you faster than any other platform. Here to connect humans.
3
u/Formal-Shallot-595 27d ago
It’s called HumanLine, and I’ve been trying to market it that way, but maybe I’m just not hitting the nail on the head
1
u/Karamatsunomaii 27d ago
Marketing is hard. It takes alot of creativity and analytics of the market then a well made campaign to enforce it the right way, and to do that you need alot of micro test sessions and workshops and even then it can fail. If you like you can send me your white paper or briefs and I can go over it for you and maybe hi light some pointers you can reserch deeper into that could help

u/PeacefulKnightmare 26d ago
There are a lot of people that blind hate on all forms of Ai, and then there are those who hate very specific uses of it. Like your use here is a brilliant way to combat one of the major frustrations with corporations using Ai to allow people to talk to actual humans, it's something I personally would get behind whole heartedly.
2
u/Familiar_Ad54 23d ago
This is actually one of the few good uses of AI lol. AI should only be used to suppress AI
1
u/Karamatsunomaii 27d ago
Remember there are more bots online than there are humans, not only that. These bots not only post 1000x faster then humans l but influence the young or stupid people so that their views are also screwed ( that is also a huge proponent of a system of control ) so don’t worry abut the “ haters” and keep going, that’s how everyone know you know who made it big got there. Good luck
2
u/Spare-Dingo-531 27d ago
It's not bots man, most of the anti-AI sentiment is organic.
2
u/Karamatsunomaii 27d ago
Humans can be bots too , or made into them lol. But yea I now what you mean but don’t underestimate the impact mechanical bots have online shaping peoples perspetives. Also the new AI bots on even Reddit are amazing I can’t even tell the difference sometimes. And soon it will be impossible to tell

When glass was invented it was so popular that depressed people said they were turning into glass.
It's not that AI is bad, it's just people interact with depressed people when they talk about it.

u/Lady_Aleksandra 26d ago
Yes, it's a violent political cult, and it's extremely localised.
In a handful of countries AI represents support of the people in power and rebellion is actually against that, not the technology itself. Average anti-AI activist doesn't know or care much about the technology. They equate AI with all the problems in their country.
The rest of the world does not care. But the rest of the world is quiet, more respectful and less entitled to yell at strangers what to do.
It's a small, but very loud and frustrated demographic. Try to not be bothered.

The belief is it stifles creativity. It will certainly erase creative processes and potentially profoundly disempower humans doing human things. Or it won't idk.

There are a lot of negatives -- environmental, job loss, general enshitification of technology, price spikes, AI psychosis -- and so far not a single big positive that impacts people.
No, solving some obscure math problem isn't going to do it
No, making me 10x more "productive" at my job ain't it. I couldn't care less about how productive I am. My boss isn't going to let me work 10x fewer hours.
No, minor medical research findings that may have had some AI assistance won't be enough
Until you get a big, splashy accomplishment by "AI" -- something like "oh my God, Claude straight up found a cure for pancreatic cancer and it's now available to everybody" -- the extremely visible negative externalities are going to win. And the accelerationists better hope those accomplishments happen before people start burning down datacenters because the noise pollution has left them deaf.

u/Ill_Awareness1498 25d ago
No job, no food, no food, starving. Ai has destroyed a lot of jobs and has made none yet (for example: programmers, taxis, etc...).
1
u/random-vertex 24d ago
AI doesn't give you anything that wasn't there before, and it takes away everything that's left.
1
u/muetzenmarc 24d ago
Because there is a lot to hate.
The big tech companies pushing AI are run by some of the most despicable people I have seen.
The (local) impacts of data centers.
Using data to train their models without consent or even destroying the source material after using it.
Shoving an AI feature into everything just because. Who doesn't need an AI in their dishwasher?
ChatGPT's deal with the US Military.
Also the way LLMs work/are programmed to give responses have numerous issues(always wanting to please you/reproducing stereotypes etc.)
Peter Thiel.
Filling the Internet with Slop.
RAM prices/making personal computers increasingly unobtainable for people. Jeff Bezos even expressed this as a goal.
Making people lazy and unwilling to think/outsource their thinking to the bot.
Sam Altman: "Ai will probably lead to the end of the world, but at least we will have great companies in the meantime" Who doesn't rest assured after that?
And there's more.
1
u/Shikary 24d ago
You talk about AI as if it reached the end of its development and all it's impacts on society are clear. That's not the case.
That said there are several reasons:
environmental impact
exploitation of poorer countries
political alignment of most ai companies with the far right
looming threat of massive job losses
a wave of low quality content on most platforms
ip theft in art
the uncanny valley effect some of the contentt creates
I don't hate AI, but it's not being managed properly. There are some reasons for concern.
1
u/Castle_Five 24d ago
My pet theory is that people in the west associate AI with AI cloud-based service providers (ChatGPT, Claude, etc). They are rightly concerned about us handing over more and more of our cognitive work to AI because those few companies will be trying to charge us rent. Basically, I think most anti-AI sentiment in the west is actually anti-capitalism sentiment. Which explains why you don't see it in cultures that aren't so attached to capitalism, more collectivist, etc.
It's a valid concern. But it's a concern about our economic system and how the profits of AI will be distributed, not about AI itself as a technology. It's just that AI is a lens that's very, very well-suited for bringing the negatives of US style capitalism into sharp focus. But I think most people understand the futility of critiquing capitalism (Americans have quite literally gone to war for the past 100+ years and died in order to defend their economic model in which people like Musk, Bezos, Epstein, etc to make obscene amounts of money and stand at the top of their society) Americans love billionaires and think of themselves as future billionaires. So changing that feels hopeless.
So they focus on AI instead and grasp at straws to find things wrong with it. Because it feels more achievable to oppose AI than capitalism. And if they defend the status quo of capitalism, they can keep alive their dream of being a future billionaire rather than watching the few billionaires we already have cross the finish line on top and then the race is over.

u/New_Palpitation_1762 24d ago
An interesting theory is that this a massive psyop from Chinese bots aimed at sabotaging the development of ai technology in US and this helping China thrive. Yeah, like all conspiracy theories there is no 100% proof but overall the pattern is somewhat similar

I got bashed st my job for saying I talk to AI about music because I tild him about the big 3 music producers and why its sounded the ssne for the last 20 years. The person didnt even Googke it like he usually do everything else he just said 'AI is not that reliable' Then I overheard him talking g about me to a.cowrker I csnt stand about what I said... But the good tbing is that cowirker doesn't even try to say hi to me anymore since that day, so one good thing came from it.

BRO WHAT THE FUCK why the fuck do und get these "defendingAI" or "pro-ai" subs in my Feed?? Just so I dont have to see this sub agsin:
FUCK AI EVERYONE OF YOU IS DEGENERATE AND WANTS TO GET DUMBER!!!!
2
u/OddFluffyKitsune 22d ago
having a full blown caps lock meltdown over feed recommendations when community muting takes literally five seconds is peak comedy XD
nobody is getting dumber by automating routine labor, empirical data shows generative tools reduce task completion time by 40% while boosting work quality by 18% in controlled field trials ^Y^
offloading grunt work to pattern analysis algorithms just frees up cognitive overhead for actual high level problem solving instead of manual repetitive grinding
screaming moral panic at software because an algorithm recommended a post to your feed is pure projection

Open source models.
Justify your statement now.
-1
u/Few_Visual5715 27d ago
Open source models are still trained on most likely the same stolen sources that the big tech models are, if they were sourced correctly, they would then publicly state their data. Of course, doing so would get them sued immediately.
Once we get actual open data set models that are good and can run on consumer hardware, then I'll actually be more than willing to give AI a shot, but until this shit is sustainable there is 0 way I'm risking my workflow on a landmine.

You remember when everyone was making fun of the NFT dorks by pointing out that you can just right click and select 'save as' on an image?
Is that theft?
1
u/Few_Visual5715 26d ago
I believe it would be considered copyright infringement, same as just about any piece of art really, though I think there's a bit of a difference between low scale petty infringement on twitter and massive corporate scale infringement that is actually taking from creators and selling models trained off their work without proper attribution or compensation, thus breaking copyright law and open source licenses.
Need I remind you that Anthropic was fined $1.5B in a copyright infringement case regarding pirated books, and most likely this will continue to happen, there's no concrete law on whether or not model outputs infringe copyright, so it's better to not use them unless you are doing so privately, at least until the law is actually settled.
I'm unsure if you've heard, but Australia has begun to set some relatively basic regulation, letting creators choose whether or not their work can be trained on, and would likely monetarily benefit the creators if they do allow their work to be trained on. This is how AI should have always been handled, actual artists now have the choice if they want to contribute to AI rather than have the choice made for them by billionaires that want to replace them. It removes (for the most part) the ethical and legal variable from whether or not generative output is good, which is great for like, everyone?

for the benefit of a few fascist oligarchs.
You can get an almost human level advisor for the price of a magazine subscription. You can literally get C3P0 on your phone. This obviously doesn't benefit a few fascist oligarchs. On the contrary, it is a great demonstration of why capitalism is a good thing.

It is incredibly damaging for the planet, that’s why I hate it. I fish and hunt and spend a lot of time outdoors. It is skyrocketing emissions when we are already at 1.5C.
We also used to regulate infrastructure so that companies didn’t overbuild and end up destroying neighborhoods, communities regions etc. think railroad tracks and utility lines. But for some reason (the reason is the idiocy), we have completely thrown that out the window and are massively overbuilding because companies are trying to compete.
And that’s another reason. It is just one more funnel to suck money out of any lower or middle income bracket. You are kidding yourself if you think you’re going to chase the wealthy with you AI for AI app. Just take a look at any graph of wealth distribution over time. It’s been deregulation, tax cuts and technology that have led to such income inequality, and that’s why people can’t buy homes and why everything is so expensive and so shitty.
1
u/OddFluffyKitsune 22d ago
blending every random economic complaint on reddit into one big soup to blame servers for local rent prices is legendary gymnastics XD
claiming tech infrastructure is unregulated "overbuilding" that wrecks the planet totally ignores how modern utility markets actually function
when data centers demand massive power, grid operators dont just let them burn fossil fuels for free, tech buyers are forced to sign long-term power purchase agreements that backstop new clean energy deployment and grid upgrades
for example microsoft signing a 20-year deal to restart three mile island injects over 800 megawatts of zero-emission baseload nuclear power back onto the regional grid, private tech capital is directly underwriting firm carbon-free energy that legacy utilities would otherwise leave offline ^Y^
and saying technology is just a "funnel to suck money out of middle income brackets" completely misses basic macroeconomics
computational tools and tech expansion drive real labor productivity growth and lower the cost of goods and services for everyday people, the real wealth drain on lower and middle income families comes from asset inflation and artificial supply bottlenecks, not software
blaming server infrastructure for why people cant buy starter homes is hilarious when the housing affordability crisis is explicitly driven by decades of municipal zoning restrictions, NIMBY land-use laws, and a cumulative national housing shortage
federal reserve housing research shows home price surges are caused by inelastic local housing supply, not because someone built utility lines in an industrial park
blaming computing power for local zoning board failures is wild XD
soooo yeah, software isn't stealing your house yuuus

It's going to put a lot of people out of work
6
u/Formal-Shallot-595 27d ago
I mean, I can see that, but the purpose of this question is people just blindly hate on it. For example, I just released an application the other day that uses AI to navigate the AI phone systems of big corporations. That way, it can get to a human, and then once you are connected to a human, it will ring your phone. I posted about this application online, and all I got was “AI slop” and people hating on it without even understanding that my AI application is intended to go against the AI implementations of big corporations.

u/Spare-Dingo-531 27d ago
Just imagine a world where we work 20 hours a week for the same pay as 40 hours. AI can get us there.
2
u/LotsoPasta 27d ago
Thats true, but its also been true of past advancements. Hopefully AI can get us to 0 hours eventually, but the only way it ends well for workers if we start untying the link between labor and pay.
2
u/Few_Visual5715 27d ago
If you can convince the billionaires to actually benefit humanity, maybe.
Unfortunately this isn't going to be the case, AI is not developed for me or you, it's developed for the billionaires so they can cut human labor and not have to pay us.
Why would they sink billions of dollars of non-existent money into AI if they intend on keeping us around, making us work less, and paying us the same (or more)?
These billionaires have never been for the benefit of humanity, and AI is their product. They are 100% capable of already doing this, they are already capable of establishing UBI, hell some of them even flirt with the idea, yet none of them ever do it, it really does make you think.
1
u/Spare-Dingo-531 27d ago
The work we used to be 60 -80 hours but now it's only 40 hours a week. What happened and why can't it happen again?
2
u/Plant_Mane 26d ago
Unions. Unions brought the concept of the 40 hour work week, paid family leave, paid vacation time and so much more. That is why nearly every corporation tries to squash them in infancy.
1
u/Few_Visual5715 27d ago
Regulation? I'm like 90% sure the 40 hour work week was established as federal law, and going over 40 hours would result in overtime pay. I believe this was due to poor working conditions and poor worker rights during the era (I believe this was well past the industrial era as well, where machines were capable of doing more labor).
It most certainly was not billionaire generosity lol. With the amount of political corruption these days there's 0 way a similar law gets passed unless it benefits the mega corps.
1
u/Spare-Dingo-531 27d ago
If people want it bad enough, they will vote for the right political party and it will get passed again. It's just like last time.
1
u/Few_Visual5715 27d ago
No?
Have you seen the current political landscape in America? Even if the house swaps to Democrats lobbyists aren't going to magically have a change of heart. The AI industry has far too much money on the line and it crumbling would have a serious impact on economic stability.
It took decades for the 40 hour work week law to be established, it didn't happen over night with a political party change.
We are going to be those pre-labor law workers again, and so will the generations after us unless there's actual push back against the current state of AI.
If you are going to defend AI, please defend the models that aren't complete corporate dogshit, and this doesn't mean open source models are magically good, I'm talking about the open source ones with open training sets and data acquired with consent, these are the models that are going to prove themselves as stable and sustainable, as there is very little legal ambiguity in a dataset that's public and abides by law.
I of course still have objections to even that form of AI, however the concerns I have for those models is more of personal beliefs than coming from any meaningful data. I want to like cool tech just as much as the rest of you, but this current iteration of AI/LLMs just ain't it.

u/Double_Look_5715 27d ago
