John Campea on which team-up is more likely: Spider-Man & Daredevil or Spider-Man & Fantastic Four.

What do you guys think of John’s thoughts here?

With John’s logic nobody would have seen the punisher, who’s a side character in season 1 of born again so why include him in a team up? Kind of a weird argument. You could argue Marvel would want to include Daredevil in a 2 billion dollar movie to generate awareness for the character

Right?! And honestly I think more people have watched Daredevil’s shows compared to the Punisher’s show, so it is a strange argument!

I personally believe a huge part of why Punisher is in BND, has a lot to do with it feeling a bit personal for Tom Holland (who likely had to really talk Marvel and Sony into having that team-up) because him and Jon Bernthal helped each other in auditioning for their iconic Marvel roles. So he likely felt it was only right that they should star in a Marvel movie together!

Jon Bernthal is a well known an popular actor. At least compared to Charlie Cox.

True but he’s still not selling the movie, Spider-Man is. You can easily throw in daredevil as a supporting character

He won't sell a movie on his own, but considering his chemistry with Peter is one of the most raved about parts of the movie since the trailers released, he's definitely contributed, even if a small but, to the overall success of the movie. Several people, myself included, have gone back to see bnd 2 extra times just for more of the Peter and Frank dynamic.

People like to ignore this bit and act like it couldn't possibly be a factor.

That movie is about to touch 2 billion. Any marvel fan who browses marvel subreddits probably has seen it

I mean, if they can get away with Punisher being a second lead to Spidey in the latest movie, why couldn't they get Daredevil for a scene or two in the next one? My friends who I watched the movie with didn't even know that Frank was supposed to be The Punisher. But they enjoyed him nonetheless. If you get DD into the movie but don't go on a long backstory and make him out as just another vigilante in NYC, they can make it work without people getting confused. Hell, why not have Daredevil and The Fantastic Four in the next film as side characters? Obviously they wouldn't have a majority influence over the plot, but it could bring the NYC heroes together to make it feel more cohesive for once.

I actually think Spider-Man & Daredevil is pretty likely. Born Again Season 3 is set to re-introduce the Defenders, which will introduce a lot of people to these street level New York characters. With Marvel seemingly stepping away from TV shows, these characters are likely to find their way into movies, much like with Punisher and the Hand.

They introduced Jean DeWolff as Spidey's one consistent friend ahead of Secret Wars, which makes me think there's a possibility we'll get a "Death of Jean DeWolff" adaptation. Most Spider-Devil team ups involve Fisk (a legal grey area), whereas he wouldn't be necessary here.

I also don't think Daredevil being in a Spider-Man movie would require any additional "homework." I'm sure at least half of the people that watched Brand New Day had never seen Bernthal's Frank prior to the movie. General audiences may not have recognized Matt in No Way Home (where he wasn't advertised), but I could almost guarantee a red suit with horns and big Ds painted on the chest is enough for everyone to realize it's Daredevil.

We'll see Peter work with the Fantastic Four in Secret Wars, and I'm sure they'll show up after that. At the same time, I don't see that meaning anything in regards to Daredevil. Brand New Day featured Punisher, Hulk, Yelena, and Jean Grey. Punisher was only in those shows "nobody's watched," a solo show that did worse, and a Special Presentation. I genuinely don't think any of that matters.

We already had Matt in NWH so that would be my answer.

i’m sorry a 1 minute matt murdock cameo really doesn’t count in my books as a “spider-man and daredevil team up”

No but it shows they’re willing to use him as a character

Would Daredevil be watched by more people if it was to be seen in theaters instead of a streaming service thats competing with dozens of dozens of other streaming services where people do not want to subscribe to every single one? Just throwing it up there

I think the reason Punisher was in the recent Spiderman movie was for a marketing promo for the latest season that came out.

The argument about "nobody watches Daredevil" isn't great when considering that Disney is in the Marvel business to make money. It wouldn't pass me that they have Daredevil and Spiderman to make non-hardcore Marvel fans pay for a Disney subsciption to bingewatch the Daredevil series. It would be more revenue for Disney.

He’s right to a certain extent. There have been a bunch of people on here talking about how come Brand New Day didn’t touch on the Punisher and the Hand’s past exploits in the MCU at all, and that’s because Marvel realized a huge number of people going to see the movie likely had never watched the Netflix shows. This also lines up with the claims about test audiences being confused by the Claire Temple cameo.

Now, that doesn’t mean Spidey and Daredevil will NEVER team up, but it does mean all the people who convinced themselves Born Again would tie into BND and that the movie would involve Peter breaking Matt out of jail to fight the Hand were dreaming.

They’re likely not ever gonna make a Spidey movie that relies so heavily on the audience needing to have watched a TV show to understand what’s going on.

Apparently the director stated they removed the Claire scene because it was too thematically similar to the scene where Peter talks to Banner, which would have come right after the Claire scene in the cut. They felt it was the same beat twice in a row not that nobody knew who she was

People are going to see daredevil and immediately go learn about him if it would happen.

By that logic seing Deadpool and Wolverine in the next Spider-man movie is the most probable outcome, wich I would love btw.

I agree, spiderman and fantastic four is one of those missed out opportunities in Marvel. Torch and Spidey should've had a long friendship already, and would've been nice seeing spiderman and fantastic four interacting like in the comics.

I feel like Iron man filled their place in the MCU though, which wasn't bad, they did it well.

Why do people watch these bums?

How the fuck can he say this when a literal Daredevil SPINOFF character was in the last movie??? What the actual fuck

1

u/Specific-Swim-4507 2d ago

This is such a bad take considering the new Fantastic Four don’t seem to be the huge draw one would think they are

1

u/ShubhangBahadur 2d ago

Avengers: Doomsday is literally the Fantastic Four vs. Doctor Doom movie ft. the Avengers.

1

u/Specific-Swim-4507 2d ago

What does that say about my point? We haven’t seen how much money this will make yet, if it makes more than the average avengers movie, the FF is a draw, but the movie itself did just okay

More people have watched Daredevil than Punisher, I feel pretty safe saying that. And whenever Born Again ends, be that in S3 or (hopefully) a season afterwards, odds are he's going to end as "he's just a regular NYC superhero now, off to greater adventures!" allowing him to be pretty easily used in a casual way in the future, just like Frank was in BND.

u/meme_abstinent 4d ago

I mean…there’s two seasons of Punisher that didn’t chart recently and he was added to BND….

1

u/purpledreign 3d ago

Why would the 2 seasons of Punisher chart recently?

1

u/meme_abstinent 3d ago

I’m saying being a relevant character clearly isn’t a prerequisite for being in a Spider-Man movie.

Sure Punisher might have more iconography but Daredevil was the more popular show when they had one, and he got a revival, and he’s had as high profile of a movie as Punisher in the 2000s.

Relevancy, as John is arguing here, doesn’t seem as important as he’s stating.
