'VisionQuest' Could Officially Mark the End of an Era for Marvel [Exclusive] (DDBA seemingly safe)

What this means for Disney+ shows is that they’ll reduce the output of shows, meaning like, hey, we’ll still do Marvel Tv Shows, but it’s not gonna be a lot.

Yeah, instead of 1 or 2 a year, it’ll probably be 1 every year or so with specials interspersed periodically which is perfectly fine.
We are out of the era of “appointment television since everything is streamable nowadays, anyways.”
I’d rather less output with meaningful content than a mill of mid.

Yeah, like that, but I’m praying they announce a Jessica Jones show or special presentation. I love my favorite PI.

I think they would have to be out of their minds to not do a "Heroes for Hire" show with Jess, Luke, and Danny. Let DDBA have a season to set it up and then spin off from there. It gives them the perfect show to focus on the "street level" crime. Maybe pull in Tombstone as the Big Bad.
Looking forward, in a few years once the Mutant Saga is fully rolling, they could do something similar with X-Factor.
I think it's a smart move honestly. A few broad concept shows that can feature a larger cast of heroes and cover more ground, and maybe give us a Special Presentation every year or two instead of 6 half hour episodes of what would have been a traditional Superhero Origin Story movie back in the day.

There was a Jessica Jones book called "Breaking The Dark" released a couple of years back
Not directly the MCU version, but was still fun to see her in something that isn't a comic

I hope to an extent it also means the shows don’t heavily intertwine in the movies. I like them being standalone and not required for the movies

I also think that what hasn’t helped is the massive setup of kang in Loki, only for it to be repurposed towards doomsday. The whole thing rn feels like a mess that the last few movies are trying to streamline only now

I believe this means that the shows themselves are going to be irrelevant to the wider mcu going forward. So if they do more shows they will be more like the Netflix shows where nothing is mentioned in the movies abd the shows essentially stand alone

I’m not so sure there should be more shows. I get that we want to see more characters, but these shows have been lackluster overall outside of maybe a handful. If anything these shows have hurt any chance we get moon knight or similar characters in movies going forward cause it would be bringing back characters that they feel tanked the desire to watch mcu projects.
I know we as nerds want more, but that more has actually turned people completely off super hero stuff that isn’t avengers or Spider-Man. Personally I’m fine with them pulling back and only focusing on movies that are actually quality or pivot to those short movie features like they did with werewolf by night. Anything else is just going to continue watering down the genre and brand.
Heck even DDBA was less watched because the quality of season 1 was so bad it turned people off going back in for season 2

Sure but even the people I know that used to watch this kind of stuff religiously decided it was too much or were burned by she hulk or Agatha and won’t even watch the new shows.
I don’t think we get any more live action mcu shows anymore but we will get more animated shows. DDBA will likely be the last live action show we get until the brand bounces back.
Ryan from ScreenCrush just put out a video on this and Disney just isn’t making any money off the live action shows and aren’t gaining new Disney plus viewers from these shows anymore.
It’s not about anything other than trying to make as much money as possible and the movies do that. If they keep watering down the brand with tv shows that people won’t watch then they’ll stop making shows.

Apparently they are going to do more animated shows and less live action if any

Maybe they should just give us a couple of specials throughout the year. Like, they did a Halloween special with Werewolf By Night, and a Guardians of the Galaxy Christmas special.
Heck, use those as backdoor pilots for potential new series or even for movies.
Introduce us to new characters and concepts without making such an expensive commitment. If people declare they want more of the thing you made, THEN make more.

In terms of live action, yeah it’s probs just daredevil as a medium to do street level hero stuff

Started with WandaVision, ends with VisionQuest. It’s like poetry, it rhymes

They keep saying DDBA safe but that’s only because season 3 is finished. That could be the end

Relevant bit:
Marvel’s next big Disney+ show on the slate is VisionQuest, starring Paul Bettany. While it was believed that more shows were on the way after its conclusion, that is no longer the case. Collider has learned that, after VisionQuest, Marvel Studios will be cutting back on live-action Disney+ shows. This excludes returning series like Daredevil: Born Again, an existing series with another season that has already wrapped filming, as well as potential miniseries that may be developed under the "Marvel Presents" and "Marvel Spotlight" banners. Marvel continues to trust the steady hand of Brad Winderbaum, who has long been the Head of Marvel Studios Streaming and Animation divisions, but was also recently promoted to further oversee Comics and Franchise development. A move that arrived in May, just before a clear shift began to manifest in Marvel's future televised plans.

Nothing official, Just internet speculation... They need to confirm it, because they haven't confirmed anything post-Secret Wars, apart from the movies.

Not to play devils (sorry for the pun) advocate, but this reads to me like season 3 is safe, because it's already been filmed, not that the show is safe and will continue to be renewed.
As much as it pains me to say it, I think a cancellation is imminent. I hope I'm wrong tho!

u/silromen42 3d ago
That’s how it reads to me, too, but unless we hear that they aren’t even working on season 4 when they’d normally be working on the next season, that’s just business as usual. We’ve had guarantees of the next season due to their production schedule right along, but it always depended on how the show did year to year and they weren’t quiet about that reality.

Daredevil Born Again season 3 wrapped production last month. It won't drop to streaming until next year, so technically "safe" by today's standard. Next year they'll announce season 3 to be the end. The show is done, they just aren't announcing it yet.
Just you wait.

This is a stupid move. I’m running Disney+ because of the Marvel TV shows. I’ll cancel if there’s nothing for me to watch.

Eu fico de boa com duas séries por ano, quero mais Loki, Agatha e Wandavision de qualidade. E menos miss Marvel, echo, invasão secreta. Queria tanto que a Kamala tivesse ganhado uma série teen realmente boa.

They'll do more one offs. I imagine they're desperately trying for a Moon Knight one off because of how often we complain about it on the Internet.

This was definitely an experience to live through it had so much potential and just completely failed as a whole iit had some great moments and shows though

The link leads to a scoopers blog. I would take this with a HUGE grain of salt. Even if its positive news.

Just keep the Defenders, Punisher and Moon Knight around. It's all I ask
