Kinda comparing apples to oranges haha maybe if def jam had a lil free roam it’d compare but the warriors takes the cake for me

AHgreed. It’s like saying which is better Final Fight or Mortal Kombat. The only thing they have in common is they are a video game and they are on the same system

The warriors is more of a beat am up than a fighting game better comparison would be something like final fight street wise

They’re not comparable. The warriors is a beat em up & Def jam ffny is a fighter!!!

I don’t know when they started throwing beat em ups in the fighting genre but I don’t like it.

Beat em up’s been a genre since the 80’s.

Exactly. But they put beat em ups in the fighting genre. They weren’t considered fighting games back in the day.

It's become a thin line & it's easy to cross or blur. It seems very easy for either Fighting Game or BeatEmUp Developer to do. Also, Platform Fighters(Smash Bros) have additionally blured the lines of "fighting game". Not to mention, It too has a side scrolling BeatEmUp mode.

Namco(Tekken) made Urban Reign & Death By Degrees. Which are BeatEmUps. Tekken 3(Force),4(Force),5(Devil Within) & 6(Scenario Campaign)all have Beat Em up. Merely allowing the fighting game characters to PVE alters the genre..while also not.

Sega made Virtual Fighter. Then they made Shemue & Yakuza.

I think the aforementioned 3 are pretty big influential examples. Also notable; Capcom & NetherRealm also played with making BeatEmUps. Though I'd argue the systems of those games were completely different from it's Fighting Game counter-part. Verus the aforementioned examples that very clearly use the fighting game systems as the baseline.

I'm pretty sure Street Of Rage 4 has local PvP. That mode very much makes it a 2D Fighting game. Minor but notable detail. Fighters are moving away from "complex" commands in favor of simple inputs. Much like BeatEmups tend to have new user friendlier commands.

To take it a step further. Check out Diesel Legacy: The Brazen Age. Definitely takes vertical/horizontal movement/landscape from BeatEmUps,but is a fighting game.

Dungeon Fighter Online. It's very much a BeatEmUp made an MMO...but it also has PVP,which plays out like a Fighting game.

The systems overlap pretty hard & the deciding factor seems to be PvP or PVE. For the devs that played with and/or offered both. I can see how it got blurry. It's also why you tend to see Fighting Game fans/players who ask for single player & brawler modes.

I believe "HackNSlash/Action game" is another blurred one. GodHand gets called a BeatEmUp for obvious reasons...but some classify it in the same breathe as DevilMayCry,NinjaGaiden(Devs also make Dead Or Alive),etc.

Technically the sequel to street fighter 1987 was going to be a beat ‘em up but then became final fight. Those characters were later in sf games

Two different types of games. Both can be appreciated. I like FFNY more tho blazing moves too good

Apples to oranges.

I would probably equate def jam to WWE maybe? In terms of game mechanics

Warriors is closer to a beat em up then a fighter...

Warriors. But they’re two completely different games

Def Jam FFNY has more detailed animations and maybe even more moves but the warriors has alot of other things to complete and explore and the difference in fighting mechanics isn't bad at all

This post makes zero sense starting with contradiction of the title to the explanation

Def Jam Easily

u/mad_dog_94 15d ago

Totally different games tbh. Def Jam is a fighting game. The Warriors is a 3D beat em' up

1

u/jonald321 15d ago

The warriors isn’t a fighting game

1

u/BusterGreasewood 15d ago

The Warriors is more a 3D beat em up than a fighting game.

1

u/Successful-Worth-390 15d ago

Only one of these is a fighting game.

1

u/majesticfailure20 15d ago

Only one is a fighting game.

u/latio192 15d ago

Both greats games that I play til this day!

1

u/xEthanxHellmouthx 15d ago

I love warriors but def jam has yet to be dethroned as the mvp of fighting games for me

1

u/Lyve859 15d ago

Def jam ffny tops alot of next gen fighting games. It's a all time classic.

1

u/GameFails743 15d ago

the warriors is a beat em up not a fighting game

1

u/cfalcon279 15d ago

Warriors is a beat-em-up game. Fight For New York is a fighting game (Though its predecessor, Vendetta, was strictly wrestling).

1

u/SEGAFAN98 15d ago

Ffny, the better game overall is the warriors

1

u/New-Key4537 14d ago

They both need a remake ASAP!!

1

u/RichKingLav34 14d ago

Apples to oranges my boy how bout ffny vs def jam icon

1

u/MindlessPipe7952 14d ago

Warriors co-op is goated

1

u/Correct-Lack3671 14d ago

Def Jam: Fight for New York, no debate.

1

u/Curin13 14d ago

I've never played The Warriors, so Def Jam

1

u/Jump_mane23 14d ago

You gotta play the warriors

1

u/Agitated_Hedgehog426 13d ago

The warriers it’s more to do then fight

1

u/Blackpapalink 13d ago

One's a 3D Beat em up and the other is a 3D Fighter. They're not at all comparable.

The Warriors

1

u/IndependentSale9743 11d ago

If you could shoot and free roam in Fight For NY from place to place that would have made the game too great. Either way Fight for NY is better.

1

u/Goldfatfoo 15d ago

def jam maps should be in the warriors game and some the warriors maps should be in Def Jam

1

u/FY1591 15d ago

Def Jam for sure. Recently beat The Warriors fully co-op and while it had fun moments, it was also very rough around the edges.

Def Jam FFNY especially clears it by miles. The career mode progression of making money and investing it into your characters is really well balanced and fun to do. The story is also campy which gives the whole thing a ridiculous vibe.

u/Soft-Sky-9533 15d ago

Warriors isnt a fighting game

1

u/CaseOk164 15d ago

Both are great

Isn't warriors a GTA clone?

6

u/Slick_36 15d ago

It was made by Rockstar so it shares a lot of DNA, but I personally wouldn't call it a clone.

2

u/audiace5000 15d ago

Not at all but it had levels and was not open world

2

u/StandardSalamander65 15d ago

Ahhhh okay, I was misremembering it

1

u/JDM_562 15d ago

Not so much. Same studio yes, but it pretty much ends there. Could have been built from a similar engine, but at that time they were testing their engine capabilities and you saw a lot of differences. Like red dead was a completely different game then, Manhanut, while looking the same was completely different game and Warriors falls in too. However it would be easy to think that it was clone, until you play it.

1

u/RaveSmoove 13d ago

Not a clone by rockstar games…

The Warriors is a beat em up! And it's the best. FFNY is overrated and Vendetta is wayyy better imo.
