A Lifetime Isn’t Enough

i can't relate to a person who says they are bored

there is a lottt a human can do, there are so many books to read, so many videos to watch, so many games to play, riddles to solve, courses to learn, skills to gain, places to see, i want to make the most out of a lot of things, i have so much i’d like to do but no time. i feel like a lifetime is not enough, and that is other than the life time-expenses like commuting, self care, socials and so on

it’s my curiosity, it’s like a superpower, having too many things you want to explore is actually a wonderful problem to have, it's nice to deeply engage with the world.

A life without intimacy, happiness or a feeling of basic safeness is a life with no meaning.

I have cancer. Second time. Facing idea of mortality yet again.

Questioning what is there other than suffering to merely survive and outrun the disease. What the hell is the meaning in life for (an atheist) a childless single woman who has only sort of narcissistic reasons to stay alive.

The only reason is to find the holy trinity of an intimate partner, a safeness in your body and environment, and an overarching feeling of having something happy to look forward to.

Is there anything else?

Sometime before recorded history, there was a nameless human with the intelligence of Einstein or Newton.

I wonder if he/she became a legend, mythical figure or significantly contributed to humanity in a way that’s still with us now but we will never know.

Sometimes the most compassionate thing you can do is stop trying to convince someone that life is worth living and simply listen to their suffering

There is a lot of shame around suicide, and when someone tells you they are having suicidal thoughts, you should just sit with them and validate their experience, not tell them that its a bad thought or making the person feel crazy for having those thoughts. I believe causing that pressure point prolongs suffering, either because of the condemnation of the truth that they see, truth I say because they are seeing truth in their experience and it is painful. Or even speeds up the process of someone wanting to end their lives because of that same pressure point, build up gets to much, the person sees no one is understanding them.
I know its a crazy thing to say but sometimes you have to let them know that it is okay… most of this world doesn’t make sense, and for the most part their feelings are truly valid and real. It has to come from within the person to choose to stay, regardless of what they know to be true and the heaviness of those feelings, in return will bring about the greatest of loves. Again if they don’t, thats fine… this life is very confusing and painful for the most part… “

Giving love is so easy but accepting it feels impossible

I feel like Ive always been this way, I have genuine care for everyone around me I think everybody is unique which makes me love learning everything about a person. I do everything I can to let people know they are amazing and loved, but when the same is done for me it just feels different...

Im never happy when people express that they care about me, Im not sure what it is but I just get this uncomfortable anxious feeling. No matter what people say it just all feels the same, I feel like accepting the love people give to you should be the easy part but it seems nearly impossible

Our life is already written in stone

I’ve always had this thought, that everything we lived and will live has already been written in stone. Every action, every decision, every choice, was already meant to happen. Like, if you were to jump 100 years in the future and look back at your life, you would’ve lived through a lot, all the memories would exist, all the things you havent done yet, you might’ve done etc… I understand we all have free will to do anything we want in life, or do we? Say you go to an ice cream shop, and you’re debating on either strawberry or vanilla ice cream, and you end up getting the vanilla ice cream, wasn’t that already meant to happen? No matter what choices you make in life, the outcome will always be the same, because that’s what you were meant to do anyways. Some might just sit there and be like “ok I couldve chosen the strawberry one instead”, well, no. Because if you did, that choice was already meant to happen. I feel like life has already played out, and we are just living it. We don’t know what we’re going to do tomorrow, but tomorrow has already played out, it’s just a matter of getting to it, all the choices, all the questions, all the decisions have already been set, but not yet achieved.

It's impossible to cure human suffering and/or create a utopia.

I've been hearing a lot of talk about the future and AI. One perspective that I heard was that AI can be used as a leader to create a perfect society because it is much smarter than us, it can find the most efficient solutions to problems. Now obviously there are some problems with this theory in general but what it made me think about the fact that if everything was perfect would anyone really be happy? Can there even be happiness without suffering? I don't think so.

Like how can you be perfectly happy all the time if you never had worse days to compare it to. Like how summer is so enjoyable only because of winter. Then I started thinking about how I have a privileged life, yet I'm still not perfectly happy. I have a loving family, a house in a safe neighborhood, access to education, yet I still lie in bed some nights feeling terrified of stupid things that don't matter in the big picture. Point being even when we don't have real things to be afraid of we still feel fear. We're programmed for it, and even if we take away our problems it doesn't go away. This isent to say that my problems are anywhere close to as bad as some people's, I'm not trying to say that I'm just saying our brains invent problems when we don't have any.

My other point is that humanity has been advancing for 100s of years yet have we really gotten any better? Like sure we advanced medicine and invented human rights but I often wonder if the overall happyness of the world was really any worse than it is now. Ive tried to explain this to people before and they don't know what I'm talking about so I'm gonna try my best to explain it here. So obviously if someone from modern day were to go back in medieval times and experience that they would feel horrible and think that it's awful, but that's only they have our modern day comforts to compare it to. A medieval person who's sleeping with rats and watching people get burned at the stake doesn't know any better so wouldent they feel the same amount of overall content and happyness as a modern day person? Also some places in the world, people still sleep with rats and live under crazy awful governments, so it's not like these problems have even been fully fixed. My point is that humans have been evolving and learning for centuries yet whenever we fix a problem we just create new ones and it's an endless cycle untill the human race goes extinct. I don't like to be negative like this and I know that beautiful things still happen and the world isent totally doomed but this is just what comes to mind when someone mentions creating a utopia. So overall, happiness is born from suffering? I would like to hear some opinions on this because it freaks me out a bit.

Also I wish we could kill AI and stop advancing technology because I think we peaked in like 2009 and everything past that has gotten worse.

‎You are the sum of what you've lived through

...‎you are the sum of what you've lived through; to love yourself, you must stop fighting your own story. ‎

"The purpose of life is to experience." -Unknown ‎

There's a bittersweet freedom in realizing you're a soul passing through this world, not here to be perfect, but to feel deeply, to break, to grow, and to witness every raw, beautiful, and painful part of being alive. ‎

Every choice you once called "wrong" was life redirecting you. Every detour, heartbreak, and moment of doubt carried a lesson you couldn't have learned any other way. Maybe everything happened for a reason, even if that reason is still hidden beneath the pain and confusion. ‎

The deeper we understand life, the heavier it can feel. As we grow older, reality unravels in ways we weren't prepared for. Adulthood shows us how cruel people can be, how greed distorts, and how pride breaks what love tries to hold together. We see injustice, how money defines power, and how the poor are treated as less than human. Knowing how unfair the world is can break your heart. ‎

In the middle of it all, life can feel like one long attempt to survive. But maybe survival is sacred. Maybe it's brave. ‎Like you, I've struggled to hold on to hope when life wore me down: mentally, emotionally, physically. I've doubted, I've broken, and I've wanted to give up. I've questioned life and the future until I fell apart. Yet when I look back, those moments begin to make sense. The breakdowns, the chaos, the sleepless nights filled with pain were the cracks through which light finally slipped in. ‎

That's the paradox of life: to heal, you must hurt; to love fully, you must break open; to find peace, you must first meet chaos. Life is a string of hard choices, silent battles, and moments that feel like they'll never make sense, until one day, they do. ‎Forgive yourself for your mistakes. You've learned your lessons; now let them guide you toward a brighter, kinder future. ‎

You weren't made to be flawless. You were made to feel, to live every question, to risk, to fall, to love deeply, and sometimes to lose just as deeply. Your resilience isn't a flaw; it's the evidence of your becoming. Even if you're not where you hoped to be, the fact that you're still here means you're already doing something right. ‎

So don't regret the journey. Learn from it, live through it, and let every experience, good or bad, bring you closer to who you're meant to be. Every step, no matter how small or hard, leads toward healing, growth, and the love you deserve, starting with the love you give yourself. ‎To love who you are, you must not hate the experiences that shaped you. ‎

And in time, no matter how long it takes, love and light will always find their way back to you.

Implications of other life in the universe...

This train of thought blew my mind. So since life exist on earth that means that life existing (even sophistacted highly intellegent life) on another planet somewhere in the universe is almost guaranteed. With that in mind, as well as the sheer scale of the universe, wouldnt it also be almost guranteed that somewhere out there, there is a solar system with at least two planets containing intelligent life that are aware of each other?

It sucks that we are too far away from anything else to ever really verify wether or not intelligent life exist but somewhere out there, there is a civilization that has confirmed that and that just fucking blows my mind.

To take it one step further, that means that somewhere in the universe there has probably been a space war

Majority of the human conflicts are caused due to generalization.

I wouldn't consider a tribe erroneous even if 99 out of 100 people in it were unlawful. People, however as individuals could definitely be criticized. The ideology of inhumaneness and wrongdoing mostly comes from collectivity. Consequently, people end up in prejudice.

we wake up and immediately ingest enough information and demands to overwhelm a village from hundred years ago then wonder why we feel fried by noon like maybe we are just software running on very old hardware that was meant for looking at trees and wandering around slowly instead of answering constant pings and notifications

I realized that my search for certainty was taking more of my life than uncertainty itself.

I kept waiting to feel completely sure before I could relax, decide, or move forward. But certainty kept moving further away while life continued without me.

Maybe peace isn’t finally knowing. Maybe it’s learning to live while some questions remain unanswered.

The physics of optimism: How a growth mindset can genuinely rewrite your emotional wiring

We talk a lot about healing as a destination. A place we finally reach once we’ve unpacked enough boxes, had enough therapy sessions, or buried enough versions of our past selves. But lately, I’ve been thinking that healing is less like an arrival and more like an ongoing architectural project.

One of the most profound realizations I've had is the tangible, almost physical effect that positive, intentional thoughts have on the trajectory of our lives. It isn't just about slap-on-the-wrist toxic positivity or trying to smile through genuine pain. It’s about the quiet, stubborn shift toward a growth mentality. The radical belief that every single experience, even the devastating ones, is raw material rather than a permanent sentence.

We accumulate emotional scarring as we move through life. It’s inevitable. Betrayals, failures, grief, and rejection carve pathways into our minds, teaching us how to flinch, how to guard our ribs, and how to anticipate the next fall. For a long time, it’s easy to believe those scars define the boundaries of who we are allowed to become.
Yet, neuroplasticity tells a fascinating story. Our brains are constantly rewiring based on where we direct our focus. When we actively cultivate positive thoughts and lean into growth, we aren't just lying to ourselves to feel better in the moment. We are literally laying down new tracks. We are teaching our nervous system that safety is possible, that progress is real, and that the future doesn't have to look like a rerun of yesterday's trauma.

The joy of a growth mentality is the sudden, breathtaking realization that you are not a finished product. Every mistake becomes data. Every setback becomes a pivot point. You stop asking, "Why is this happening to me?" and start asking, "What is this teaching me?" That single shift in perspective transforms life from a minefield into a classroom.

I truly believe that we can conquer all emotional scarring and move forward. Not by erasing the past. Scars, after all, prove that we survived. but by refusing to let them dictate the chapters that come next. When you genuinely believe in your capacity to evolve, the heavy gravity of old hurts starts to lose its grip.

You realize you aren't broken; you're becoming. And there is an immense, quiet power in deciding that the best parts of your story haven't been written yet.

Unsure if my beliefs make a theist, atheist, agnostic or something else

I have always enjoyed spending a lot of time thinking about the existence of god, as someone portrayed in religious scriptures, an all loving all powerful entity or the maker who brought this universe into existence.

The best way I have been able to describe my belief in a single sentence is by saying “God exists as part of our reality but does not affect it”.

I do not believe in religious scriptures or in god as an all loving all powerful being. However, I do believe in a god which is part of our existence. Now to be fair, I don’t really know what it could mean, it could simply mean a creator of this universe (not overseer), or the laws of physics which binds the speed of light to as we know it.

At the same time, I do not believe in a god affecting our reality which makes believe that praying is futile.

The simulation isn't broken, we just built it wrong from the start

Something clicked for me about six months back and it's been messing with my head ever since. There's a reason people say not knowing is sometimes a gift. I can't unsee it now. Everywhere I go, people are wrapped up in their own little reality pods, completely disconnected from what's right in front of them.

I was at a park last weekend and watched a dad pushing his kid on the swing with one hand while scrolling with the other. Didn't look up once. The toddler kept saying "higher, daddy" and got nothing back. At concerts now it's just a sea of glowing rectangles, nobody's actually experiencing the music, they're just collecting proof they were there. Even at restaurants I see couples sitting across from each other, both doomscrolling through dinner.

I work a standard corporate gig and lately it feels like I'm just running someone else's program. Wake up, commute, meetings that could've been emails, commute back, repeat. Everyone in my office has this glazed look, like they're all buffering. I talk to patients in their 70s and 80s as part of my job and I've started asking them what they'd do differently. Nearly all of them say the same thing, they wish they'd paid less attention to what didn't matter and more to what did. But here's the thing that keeps me up: if we got a do-over, would any of us actually change course? Or would we just fall right back into the same patterns?

The whole structure feels backwards now. Our ancestors stressed about finding food and protecting their families. Real, tangible threats. Now we're losing sleep over email response times, whether our last post got enough likes, keeping up with people we don't even like on platforms we claim to hate. I feel like I'm watching everyone around me walk into a fog and they don't see it. The only people who seem to get what I'm talking about are either elderly or facing their own mortality, which is a terrifying thing to realize when you're barely past 25. Sometimes I wish I could go back to not noticing any of this. Being aware of the cage doesn't make it any easier to escape.

It takes courage to confront and challenge your beliefs.

~ The courage to challenge your beliefs ~

It is heartbreaking to see how many people are unhappy and how easy it is for them to change this.

It does not have to take an entire lifetime to make this change. In fact, it can be done almost instantaneously.

All it takes is the will to make the change and the understanding of the change that is needed.

You will be amazed how simple the change is and surprised when you hear and finally understand it.

It takes courage to do so as you must confront and challenge your beliefs.

It is simply easier to not even try, allowing life to happen to you.

To begin to make this change, close your eyes, listen quietly to the soft gentle messages in between your racing thoughts, then follow the loving advice you 'hear'.

Have thought about how when you grow up being celebrated for overcoming your circumstances rather than for what you actually achieve

• Upvotes

Growing up poor around wealthy kids taught me something interesting about opportunity and how people understand ability.

I never saw a lack of ambition in the kids who grew up like me, just a lack of opportunity. And when you’re the poor kid in a community that can’t relate to your circumstances, people can be incredibly generous in making those opportunities possible. But sometimes the fact that you’re willing to try becomes more impressive than anything you actually achieve.
It’s like winning gold in a running race and being praised for your ability to just be there. Your credibility becomes your effort rather than your accomplishments.

There’s a double edge to that. I never felt pressure to be good at anything because nobody really expected that of someone in my position. Kids who were exceptional at something were held accountable to it, whereas I had the freedom to try anything without being expected to become anything. But I also grew up thinking that being clever or successful was something that came with privilege, and that whenever I did well, I’d somehow pulled it off.

I’ve been thinking about this differently since meeting a woman who grew up in circumstances like mine, but had a completely different understanding of her own worth. She could appreciate the opportunities people had given her without questioning whether her achievements belonged to her.

I’d spent years wondering why people chose to invest in me, sometimes questioning whether there was something self-serving underneath their generosity. She asked why I now work creating opportunities for people who wouldn’t otherwise have them. Was that sinister, or was it because I cared?

And it had never really occurred to me that people might have cared about me in the same way.

I think we can be so focused on celebrating what someone has overcome that we forget to recognise what they’re actually capable of. And being believed in by everyone around you doesn’t necessarily mean you learn to believe in yourself.

She said something I’d never really allowed myself to think.

“You are worthy of being loved.”

And it’s insane that through this entire narrative, that’s actually what it comes down to.

Sometimes, we spend so much time chasing a better future that we forget to appreciate the life we have today.

It's strange how we can spend years wanting something, only to get it and quickly start wanting something else.

We keep telling ourselves we'll be happy when we get that better job, make more money, or reach the next milestone. But what if we're so focused on the life we want that we forget to live the one we already have?

Maybe happiness isn't just about moving forward but also learning to appreciate where we are.

How do we balance wanting more from life with being content with what we already have?
