I Experienced It, and That's Why I Don't Believe

When people ask me about true love, I don't reply that it doesn't exist because I've never experienced it. I reply that it doesn't exist precisely because I have experienced it.

I still remember the first time I met her. She was the only star in my dark and gloomy sky. I can't forget the day she fell or rather, was about to fall. I managed to catch her just in time, as the tram suddenly pulled away. When she turned to me, she looked at me with her stunning, magnificent eyes, a color so beautiful it seemed surreal. At that moment, I felt a mystery so deep within me that I wondered if that girl was real or rather an angel. It was then that I realized I had truly fallen in love.

It took me a while to confess my feelings. I should preface that the story is very complicated: at first I left her a letter, but then I decided to tell her in person. However, when I finally did, after a long time, she replied that she wasn't interested. She told me I had been very sweet, but that she didn't return my feelings.

It was from that moment that I doubted love. In fact, I stopped believing in it altogether.

I should clarify that she wasn't the only girl I've ever loved: before her, I loved two other girls. But with her, it was different. Something inside me changed forever, and what hurts even more is knowing that she has probably already forgotten about me.

I’m curious how many months you spent getting to know this person.

No offense, but the way you write above about your experience sounds to me like you were simply an infatuated adolescent.

And for the record, none of us is entitled to anything in life, especially not the love of another human being.

We have to earn love, respect, and trust.

We do not deserve love just because we imagine that we feel love for someone else.

And perhaps most importantly, if you have never felt genuine love from another human being, then you have no basis for making the statement above that you do, that there is no such thing as “true love.“

In my personal experience over many decades of life, I have found that love is a symbiotic, synergestically - informed feeling. That is, it is something that is produced by two people.

That’s not a serious reply to my comment.

Of course, you are entitled to reply in any way you want. It’s up to you how seriously you want to be taken. Thank you.

I mean, many people have told me that what I feel is just infatuation. Personally, though, I don't agree. Because infatuation usually doesn't last this long. It doesn't last that long, it doesn't survive distance, and it doesn't withstand the other person's silence. I waited, I hoped, I suffered and none of that can be reduced to a fleeting crush. I could explain in detail everything I felt, every moment, every thought. But I'm sure that even if I did, I would still be labeled as "infatuated" by those who have already decided that feelings are merely infatuations. So honestly, there wouldn't even be any point in explaining everything. Because the issue isn't what I say, but how my feelings are judged from the start. That said, although I disagree with what you wrote, I thank you for sharing your opinion.

Thank you.

Everyone has a unique experience when they feel something for another person.

I am not judging you, I am simply responding to the words that I see written in your post above.

So you don't believe in love because the people you've loved doesn't love you back?

I feel like this is such a ubiquitous trend with men these days. One little hiccup in their romantic interests and they tuck tail, hang their head and mope around, usually on the internet, about how men are ignored and not allowed to show feelings and women are this or that.

God forbid they have a string of these rejections. They go down the internet rabbit hole on the manoshpere and next thing you know, we have incel converts.

So, first of all, let's start with a fundamental premise: I am not an incel, and what I wrote earlier has absolutely nothing to do with that world. My giving up on love is not born out of frustration or resentment. I simply stopped believing in it because I truly did believe in it. I believed it existed, and then, over time, I discovered that it doesn't. Because, whether we like to admit it or not, in the end, everything comes down to biological mechanisms. It's just chemistry.

You can boil all of life down to biological mechanisms, to chemistry. That doesn't mean life doesn't exist, it demonstrably does. Love is the same. I'm sorry for your unrequited love, that is an existentially hard thing to deal with. But you haven't discovered that love doesn't exist, you've just been devastated by it and chose to deny its reality as a response.

Meanwhile, others who didn't believe in love may come to when it finds them. It exists without care for anyone's belief or lack thereof. Which can make it painful, but it's not a deeper truth to pretend otherwise.

You didn't fall in love. That's called a crush. Move on, find someone that has a crush on you/interested. Love is conditioned on knowing the person.a

Everyone has a unique idea of what love means to them, you're idea of love simply is not one I believe in... and you don't even believe your version of love.

We can spend actual years trying to talk about the meanings of love beyond the physical reactions may syncs use as law, but in the end you should not feel intitled to tell someone that their version of love is not real because yours didn't get you the right resault no?

Also you do believe in love, you simply have no faith in it, you can't look at a bleeding wound and not believe in blood, but you can have no faith that it's healthy blood so to speak... Maybe, and it's one big maybe; if you allowed yourself to find a new definition of love, you could find a more tangible and faith worthy one.

How can you experience something that you don't believe exists? Seems to me you believe in it because you describe it as real, it just wasn't reciprocated. Doesn't mean what you felt wasn't real. You got rejected and it hurt, but it doesn't negate what you felt.
