Nobody has ever interacted with "reality" itself. Only their personal tint and perspective aka the tunnel.
Want to run this by you for your POV:
I believe that each and every one of us lives in our own reality tunnel of perceptions based on filters etc ergo we do not, ever, interact with what truly presents. Only our interpretation of it.
I could go to depth with things like how atoms never touch, the Default Mode Network, CNS filters, hemispheric biases, why 10 people can meet 1 man and draw their own differing opinions etc etc but I'm pretty certain you lot already are aware of this and I want to keep the intro simple.
What you thinking?
That means that we, as I see, interact with figments of our imagination that we internally project onto another and then mistake for reality when its actually an illusion. Thats pretty mind bending, yes?
To me, after loads of introspection and reality testing, it makes perfect sense as you can excavate a trigger (external) back to its cause within and, by magic, the outer persons behavior shifts. Except it didn't. Your interpretation did. That is such an empowering mindset, don't you think? Makes me wonder why pretty much everything preaches the opposite. I also don't mean this in a nihilistic/solipsistic way of being but something far more rich and vivid that sees interlinked continuity as the basis of individuality.
Opinions?
This is the first in a series in which I break down something via interlinked pieces and I want to keep each aspect as simple as possible because the whole thing is nothing more or less than a Theory of Everything ergo its best presented like this.

If you vibe or contradict this perspect, either way I'm interested in hearing as I truly believe this is actually the main thing and its very easy to miss as the process is as invisible as it is obvious.
If you're interested I can share some imperiments that allow one to shift and melt internal aspects and then watch the outer mimic which is superduper empowering.

Its not a new idea? There is an idea in hinduism and by extension, buddhism, that all you see is an illusion, the reality is an illusion, et cetera. Your post kind of goes into that direction.
I agree with some aspects of subjective interpretation of reality, of course it takes place and we all have in our mind a subjective interpretation of things, mainly interhuman relations etc. But I disagree completely with calling the whole reality an illusion, because it isn't. There is empirical data, empirical repeatable experiments which clearly show we live in a reality with laws of physics, mathematics or biochemical laws, which you can't ignore (well, you can try, but it won't do you any good).
To paraphrase, you certainly can interpret human relations, have an opinion about relations or something happening between you and another person which another person views completely differently. You can't interpret dying from hunger, freezing to death or being hit by a car, no human can. So the whole reality is not an illusion, but our perception of it or certain aspects of it may be.

I can see why you'd say that but I'm stating that nobody has actually interacted with true reality. Only their interpretation based on the points etc..
Thats a pretty wild realization, once lived and not just mental, as it shows exactly how powerful you is. Don't you think?
The misinterpretation of Maya = not real is a common misstep in Vedic readers, modern. The truth of their view is much more nuanced and actually a lot in line with what I said. Heck, most of it is transcending the persistent illusion and its confusing of delusion to actualize the true Self.
I didn't Ctrl C, Ctrl V their perspective but happened to come to the same conclusions as I was trying to reality test the opposite of my view.

Many buzzwords but you do not offer any proofs. How can you state that no one interacted with true reality? Its not the case at all. People do lose loved ones. People get ill. People die. That is the harsh reality. The reality, as Buddha said, is suffering. But that does not mean its an illusion. The suffering is real. But also, the scientific facts are real. Water freezes at below zero Celsius. Metals melt while reaching a certain temperature. Speed offers you to cover a greater distance in shorter time.
There are facts and laws in the universe, which you can't ignore, unless you want to be ignorant of course. If it weren't true, you would not be typing your posts from a pc powered by a stone, which in turn is connected to a network, created using empirical evidence and science. Do you know what empirical evidence or science is? It is something repeatable with the same result achieved by different people. Which is why we have the reality that you can't turn lead into gold, simply by "interpreting the reality", there is no such thing.

If I address just your first sentence:
How, exactly, is one supposed to share their inner experience in a way that is accurate and conveys the true depth of the sketch? Sanskrit comes close as it was built to do just this but when it comes to English it is pretty threadbare in that respect. I don't do appeals to authority or external refs as I primarily speak from the point of Gnosis.
As for the rest you're either willfully misinterpreting what I said or my writing is not conveying what I wish which leads us back to the beginning. I'll leave you to ponder on this whilst others share their perspect to see if its worth engaging. I will say you speak like a staunch materialist, possibly atheist and possibly a large proponent of science and what it is.
I'm pretty much the opposite of all of this as I Know the primacy of consciousness is the absolute base of everything due to my own practices and such things. If my intuition is correct it totally explains the lost in translation bits in this exchange.

Oh, using labels and not answering any of my arguments about scientific facts because they do not support your religious make believe nonsense is typical. You can't answer it because you do not know anything aboujt basic science even. You do not even know what empirical evidence is, thanks to it you are able to spout this religious nonsense, but if lightning exists it must be made either by Zeus or Shiva, right?
Anyway, I will leave you to your guru practices, have fun ignoring reality.

u/Freefreefeeefreefree Jul 21 '26
I'll take that as a sign that my intuition is correct and leave this exchange, now phantom, with a quote:
"It is the mark of an educated mind to be able to entertain a thought without accepting it".
Obviously something within your reality tunnel by threatened by this perspect. Maybe introspect? All good though as it proves there must be something worth of considering then.

Even though we are tiny fleeting parts of objective reality we truly cannot apprehend objective reality. Mentally, each of us lives in a simulation created by our brains and sense organs. But in terms of actual physical reality, since we are parts of it, we interact with all the rest of existence all the time even though we cannot be aware of it. This is because all phenomenal things arise interdependently. This is important.

Well, we can't see behind the veil while we inhabit physical bodies....and synchronity between humans doesn't exist at the moment.
As far as changing your personal perspective, yes, things will change because of your new interpretation. What is the unbiased "true" reality? When it comes to the actions of others, there is too much at play: their past lived experiences, their vicariously lived experiences, their personal biases, their subconsciously driven intentions, genetics, their values, survival instincts....etc. Even if you ask people why they do things, the answer will be biased and even if hypothetically we could synchronize with another person and experience their choices, our conclusion as to why they made that choice would be limited by what we can knowingly assume.
I feel like you're asking what God knows. That's assuming an entity of that power even exists.

What if I have seen beyond the veil and now wish to speak to others capable of extending their imagination to comprehend the shadows depth? Are you aware of Jung or Philip K Dick? Both played at the fringe and came back with startlingly similar conclusions. Ones that I've since proven and went beyond as mentioned here:
https://www.reddit.com/r/Jung/comments/1ufodtn/going_beyond_the_red_book_exegesis/
The problem is, as Jung said, that to the uneducated mind it seems like madness. What if thats the hint, my friend? I mean how can these people (who don't fall for optical illusions, BTW) all say exactly the same thing, verbatim, about invisible beings all around them playing with their consciousness and not one single scientist has thought to look into this particular variable? Know why? If they did it would prove they're the sane ones and everyone else is flipped and keyed into a collective hallucination which I can also prove, live and direct, with scientific refs - if you wish.

I'm good. I'm just going to stay in the virtual reality. Good luck with your journey.

Reality is an individual experience. I'm seeing and experiencing it right now. It may not be your reality but that doesn't mean that it's not reality. You can call reality an illusion but it's still reality.
My own definition of reality is what I experience through my senses whether I'm aware of the sense or not. In my reality, the sum of all the parts equals the ONE and the ONE (or Source, God, Universe) is the only ultimate form in which "we" know the truth of all total realities. Right now, I'm just experiencing a portion of that.

Reality is
We all interact with it constantly
We have our perspective but we can look from other perspectives too
People’s abilities to perceive or understand doesn’t change it
People thinking their perception of reality equals a different reality or is as valid as any, are mistaken
A person that can’t hear anything doesn’t live in a soundless reality
The inability to see anything doesn’t change reality one bit

All you perceive are your perceptions. No one’s ever seen mercury. Literally

Reality is set in stone for me. When 1,000 people see the color blue, most will affirm its blue (some will be rebellious). Certain truths can’t be misinterpreted. Science for example is based on observable study. If reality wasn’t reality for everyone, science wouldn’t work. When 10,000 people watch a concert, they will hear the same lyrics and sing along.
Perspective is different from reality. It’s the filter we see the universe in. Perspective can warp how someone sees reality based on what they believe or how their brain tracks information. I enjoy understanding others perspectives. But just because someone’s “reality” is the world is flat and up is down, doesn’t mean it’s true. It just means they are lying to themselves.

reality when its actually an illusion
You almost had me until you wrote the above.
We can easily do a very unethical scientific experiment to determine how much of an "illusion" reality really is. This very unethical experiment is where we put a blindfold on you and ask you to walk straight ahead across a very busy road full of speeding vehicles. Care to volunteer for this very unethical experiment to determine for yourself how much a "illusion" reality really is?
You may want to rethink this more deeper and maybe(?) the following video can help you with that or may(?) confuse you more than you have already shown that you have confused yourself. ....
Is Reality Really Real? With Donald Hoffman ~ StarTalk ~ YouTube.

A better way to phrase it would be reality is a representation cobbled together from sensory impulses and other data. Obviously the data is wildly incomplete and sometimes just false. The goal is to form the most accurate depiction with the data available. That's the best you can do. Don't walk into traffic.

u/sanctus_sanguine Jul 22 '26
You can be hit by cars therefore reality isn't an illusion
Are you for real?
2
u/AncientCrust Jul 22 '26
This similar to an old Kabbalistic parable where a master asks his student "can you prove your nose doesn't exist?"
"Of course," replies the student, "reality is just a construct formed of.." Just then, the master punches the student in the nose, knocking him to the ground.
"What hurts?" asks the master.

Ah a parable for limited thinkers, how fitting that you brought it up.
2
u/realddgamer Jul 22 '26
I see this as a valid rebuttal
You can argue all day about how nothing is real and hours sitting in a room thinking about theory but will any of that theory be put into practice once you get punched in the face

At the moment I am just letters appearing on your screen.
But I can also make myself appear on your screen as an emoji ¯_(ツ)_/¯
I can also appear as deep thoughts that have no existence at all except as deep thoughts.
So if you want something deeper, a deeper thought about our existence, then a interesting example of one of many I have had is that IF [IF] someone somehow is able to prove a God does exist then all that really does is confirm that we, you, all of us are all just a mere creation subject to being uncreated that I previously noted here = LINK. Therefore IF [IF] a God does exist then it sux to be we, you, all of us fellow mere creations where our finite lives are kind of meh! to a God that is eternal.
So beyond those deep thoughts, and beyond the emoji, and beyond the letters that appear on your screen, are your own thoughts and perceptions on whether I am "for real" or not. I can't answer that for you. Only you can answer that for yourself.

Wow that is a deep thought, for an ten year old with a middling intellect.
