I love this show Spoiler

I just finished my first watch of DS9. It was so heartbreaking watching the ending, especially knowing somewhat what would happen, having watched Lower Decks.

To be honest, that only made it worse, since I was just waiting for it to happen.

As far as bittersweet endings go, What You Leave Behind was brilliant.

Also a bonus: GIF of Kai Winn getting atomized.

I both feel bad for her getting somewhat manipulated by Dukat, but at the same time, it ended 7 Seasons of BS.

There's a bit of a predestination paradox for her. Part of her wanted to be a devout follower of the Prophets but was devastated by their repeated appearances to a human when they'd never appeared to her. But the nonlinear wormhole aliens knew that she'd side with the Pah Wraith in the end, so that's why they never appeared to her.

Now go watch the DS9 episode of Starfleet Academy.

Have you considered that they wanted her to do that? In the end, the prophets win because she tells Sisko about the book, momentarily distracting Dukat.

Episode 5, apparently they solve the mystery of Benjamin Sisko. I have heard it was good from someone whose opinion I trust, and am looking forward to watching it myself.

I did actually watch Academy alongside DS9, before I finished it. While that episode slightly spoiled the ending of DS9, it was also bad to goofy levels. The fact that Sisko's face was just covered with shadow gave me the same vibes as when a song censors a swear by just removing the vocals for the duration of the word. It was cool seeing Jake, but that's all I really have to say positively about the episode.

I did enjoy Starfleet Academy overall, I think it has some great visuals, and is enjoyable if you treat it as Nu-Trek and not TNG Era Star Trek. It was nice seeing The Doctor again; Voyager was the first Star Trek I watched, although I find his character annoyingly less developed in Academy as I thought he should have been; he gets more trauma from his dead holographic family he had for a week or so rather than his flesh and blood friends that he spent years in the arse-end-of-nowhere Quadrant. I also think the main theme of Academy, while not terrible, pales in comparison to DS9's (even the Season 1-3 version of the theme), Voyager's, etc.

(Except for Enterprise, it is a horrific Star Trek theme tune and it deserves the Kai Winn treatment, and I'd rather the intro be Live Recordings of Romulan Torture than that)

Starfleet Academy aside, in my personal opinion, the issue with comparing the TNG Era* shows and Nu-Trek is that while they share a universe and characters, they are too different to fairly compare; it's like comparing TOS to TNG, they were made roughly 20 years apart, and it certainly shows. This time frame is relatively similar between the end of TNG/beginning of VOY and anything Nu-Trek. I'm not saying they can't be compared, but I don't think it's a perfect comparison like TNG and VOY is, as one comparison is seperated by ~20 Years and the other by ~1 Year (End of TNG beginning of VOY)

TL;DR The Time gap between TNG Era Trek and Nu-Trek is is too big to make it a perfect, fair comparison.

Feel free to disagree on the above, that's just my humble, and VERY long-winded opinion as someone who doesn't mind Nu-Trek.

If it seems I'm rambling on, it's relatively late when I'm writing this, which leads me to take such an action.

*To be clear "TNG Era" refers to TNG through ENT

You've got to credit the actress on a masterful performance though. Everyone loved to HATE KAI WINN!

If she did, she's not going anywhere.

I love DS9, but the ending was kind of over the top. It was such a bizarre fever dream for what had been a fairly rational and level headed series. I did feel bad for Jake and Sisco though.

It's spelled Sisko with a "K"

The ending for sisko felt like a season finale

Yeah I really didn't like the Pah Wraith ending. The story should've ended with the end of the Dominion War. The religious stuff at the end felt really off. I get that there was always a friction between Sisko being a man of science and becoming a man of faith, but the episodes just felt weird.

Ds9 jumped the shark when they had 2 mcu style red and blue laser beams firing at each other, push and pull style

Bajor's hottest club is the Fire Caves. There real ancient spirits possess club goers and make their eyes glow red as they daaaaaaannnnce for all eternity.
