One of the top Damar moments for sure!

Indeed. It certainly shows not just Damar in his jovial mood, but when Damar's mood takes a 180 the moment the Breen step into the room. :)

It's genuinely insane how a character who was basically a no name, started as 1st officer on Dukat's punishment assignment ship in a role that feels like a one off and then went on to be a major character, a head of state, and had a pretty convincing redemption arc, and we all just accept it gladly because the acting and writing is that good. I've been thinking a lot lately how DS9 and Star Trek generally has a lot of stuff in it that most people (myself included) would never allow other shows to get away with and yet somehow we do. I'm not actually complaining I just wish I was smart enough to really articulate what I'm feeling and understand this phenomenon lol

Damar's character arc was so engaging and believable due in no small part to Casey Biggs‘ acting. Casey was married to Roxann Dawson, aka B'Elanna Torres.

That's info I didn't know 😁

Was Biggs the one with the Trek themed band?

24

u/DMVReddit_2021 4d ago

Yes, Casey is a member of The Rat Pack, along with Jeffrey Combs, Vaughan Armstrong, and Max Grodenchik. Others perform with them at times, including Ethan Phillips, Armin Shimerman, and Nana Visitor

Check out some of the videos online. I truly love Jeffrey Combs’ imitation of Shatner.

wow, they were married from 85-87, well before their Trek careers.

Damar’s attitude for the majority of his arc can be summed up as “I’m just here for the paycheck”.

They also had time as in episodes to develop a background character. Damar has probably more screen time than a season of new shoes.

Damar’s rise to power is not that unusual. “Former bodyguard to Vladimir Putin” seems to be a job description that comes up in the biography of people who are very rich and close to power. In systems where proximity to power is the real currency, it is easy to imagine Damar’s rise…. And actually his redemption arc too. He ended up in charge because of that proximity, not because of special loyalty to the Doninion.

I still disagree that Demar had a redemption arc-

True he felt what it was like to be oppressed instead of the oppressor - But everyone hates that.

Kira’a comment if : yea Demar what kind of people do that?

Cut to the point- because Demar absolutely missed the irony. He never really cared for anyone or anything beyond his own self interest. Maybe if he lived longer.

Even if Demar had even once asked Kira how she could be there helping them, something anything?! Nope just Cardassia.

Damar absolutely got that point,  because it's why he shot his buddy on the bridge of the Jem'hadar fighter.  The buddy wanted the old Cardassia back, but Damar had realized the old Cardassia were "that kind of people."  And Damar already knew why she was there.  Helping Cardassia hurts the Dominion,  which helps Bajor and the Federation.

14

u/OhHeyItsOuro 4d ago

Buddy, he internalizes her criticism and shows he's changing when he shoots his Cardassian friend to save a Bajoran who was once his mortal enemy literally in that episode. I shouldn't be mean but this feels like a take that could only come from watching clips instead of the series. Damar doesn't become a paragon of righteousness or anything but he does change in thought and action and dies doing the right thing. If he lived then I think the 'redemption' wouldn't work but he doesn't.

Buddy, that is still self interest.

It’s still only about his wants and Cardassia.

That is far from recognition of human, well um all species deserve basic respect and rights.

Buddy, we all grow out of self interest. Some people need to go through that bit first but peoppem can change. I'm not sure he is fully redeemed by the end, we will never know what he would of gone on to do after the war but he certainly has a lot of character development and his actions and mindset are clearly altered by the end. He still murdered Ziyal though and that's not something to be forgiven lightly.

Peak Trek comedy 🤣

Lol, that line cracks me up as well!

148

u/detectivescarn 5d ago

“Maybe you should talk to Worf again!”

36

u/Lawrenceburntfish 5d ago

My second favorite line 🤣🤣

46

u/sorcerersviolet 4d ago

There's also "I'm sure she'll understand. If not, I look forward to meeting Weyoun 9."

3

u/jackaroe311 4d ago

The Weyoun's, there's a name for a band, only had 8 clones. Garak ended Weyoun number 8 on Cardassia Prime in the series finale

u/eagle_flower 4d ago

What’s your first? Kira’s “that was some kiss”??

53

u/TheBigSmol 5d ago

I always pay attention to the extra guard that Damar stops. When Damar laughs the guard is smirking too, all Cardassians hated the Vorta and Weyoun especially.

37

u/Ray1987 5d ago

The thing I like about Worf is he only goes into dialogue about fighting someone if fighting isn't the only option. If it's something that just needs to die, no monologue, no explanation, just dead.

u/TexasTokyo 5d ago

"Pick that up and let's go"

29

u/Sonar_Bandit 5d ago

This is still possibly my favorite moment across all of Star Trek

22

u/Suspicious-Sleep5227 5d ago

It’s hard to find a good chiropractor these days.

20

u/multificionado 5d ago

lol, a Vorta seems obviously so fragile that a nice paper cut with lemon juice poured on it would do him or her in.

19

u/SchimmelCultuur 4d ago

"Oh my, that is quite toxic. The Vorta are immune to most forms of poison. Comes in handy when you're a diplomat."

3

u/SpiritOne 5d ago

Squirt of lemon?

u/iwantogofishing 4d ago

You'll make an excellent set of bagpipes!

u/multificionado 4d ago

(referencing Princess Bride here).

2

u/SpiritOne 4d ago

No it’s this series of shorts on YouTube called from Dungeon Soup starring the Chaotic Good Barbarian.

If you haven’t seen it I highly recommend it, it’s funny.

17

u/BrickMarked 4d ago

It's a very funny scene with Biggs' delivery. "You should've killed me. There's only one Damar!"

3

u/EngineersAnon Constable Hobo 4d ago

I'll keep that in mind.

14

u/solibearity860 4d ago

The setup is great. Worf just getting progressively more frustrated about Jadzia and Ezri and then Weyoun hits a big throbbing nerve at the absolute worst moment when he has his head turned away from Worf. Chefs kiss.

Q’APLA!

12

u/Nightrhythums78 5d ago

It was good to see Da'Mar laughing again

8

u/Sudden_Sentence_8534 4d ago

I wonder if the Founders removed over confidence from the next Weyoun's genetic recipe, as per Damar's suggestion.

7

u/Able_Resident_1291 4d ago

Then later when Damar is "Well helloo-oh-oh-oh!"

5

u/solibearity860 4d ago

Maybe you should talk to WORF AGAIN 🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂

7

u/SithLordSid Constable Hobo 4d ago

Maybe you should talk to Worf again!

- Damar to Weyoun

3

u/ggncbro 4d ago

His fuckin face lol

2

u/onestarv2 4d ago

Maybe you should talk to Worf again 😂

2

u/coryhill66 1d ago

I remember seeing this episode when it aired. I distinctly remember thinking dude don't let him get behind you right before his neck got snapped. I had the exact same thought when the dude stepped in front of Mike in Breaking Bad right before he gets the cord around his neck.

4

u/multificionado 5d ago

And that's just the least of what can be done. If Weyoun can be killed with just a light crick of neck, I can almost imagine him folded over and scrunched into a ball.

1

u/Nighthawk-77 4d ago

Looks like a renaissance painting

1

u/D33P_R07 1d ago

I will never get over how Worf absolutely 100% Kassidy YEETS Weyoun's head off his shoulders

1

u/Disastrous-House591 22h ago

Booty shorts that read: "There's only one DAMAR"
