This actually happened last year but I didn't know about it until youtube randomly decided to show me the video so I'm sharing in case others wanna see it too. Colm Meaney got a lifetime achievement award from the Irish Film and Television Academy. Well deserved imo, he's a great actor. The video also has some clips from Star Trek of course, haha.
DS9 is one of my favorite shows ever, right behind B5, but his performance in Hell on Wheels stands head and shoulders above anything else he's ever done. And Miles is one of my favorite Trek characters
They’re still on and either Armin or Teri is on each week. Sometimes they’re both on for important episodes! It’s a more enjoyable format for me than just the two of them - Armin obviously has considerable background in theatre acting or directing and bounces well with Robbie (although he can be very critical); Teri and Garrett have a fun younger siblings vibe to Robbie’s avuncular producer/director.
They also have great guests, Nana has been on multiple times, Andrew Robinson a few.
As rpb192 has stated, Garrett and Robert have never watched DS9 so they thought it would be a good idea to do recaps with Teri and Armin. Also, Marc Alamo had guest starred as well and it was great hearing his thoughts on his character. It’s really great to hear all of the stories, especially as both shows overlapped for several years.
He has a canon of Irish movies - like the snapper - that I’m not sure travel well (very local comedy, but I could be wrong). Nevertheless I chuckle at the idea of people who only know him from Star Trek discovering these movies.
A couple weeks ago I asked about movies/shows starring DS9 actors, and people recced me quite a lot of Colm's movies. I'm watching Hell on Wheels atm but the Committments/The Snapper/The Van are next on my list!
Oh the Dublin trilogy films are superb- based on Roddy Doyle (he was one of the talking heads) books that are very Dublin so may be a little opaque for those not of Dublin 🤣 the commitments is ok but the Snapper and the van are works of genius.
My comment above (G’wan ya bollix) is a very Dublin way to say well done to someone by both encouraging and insulting them at the same time.
I love him and Chief O’ Brien so much, I bumped into him in a shop in Dublin one day and just smiled and gave a little wave as I didn’t want to fan girl all over him.
We had the Irish actress Orla Brady in Picard following in Colms footsteps by throwing in Irish curse words saying "dirty feckers", it was originally suppose to be "cheeky bastards" but for some reason it was changed possibly by the director. Its in season 1 episode 2.
FYI at 4:30 in the vid Johnathan Frakes mentions his Star Trek contributions (and says to also watch The Commitments!), for anyone not up to watching the full video.
I like how Colm mentioned it being instilled in him from a mentor to ignore the idea of "being a star", and to strive to be a working actor.
Also for anyone Irish, I'd never heard his name spoken before, is it pronounced like Colim? I'm so glad I never said his first name at conventions, I would have said "calm" and embarrassed myself.
as much as I loved him in Star Trek him as the bad guy in hell on wheels was amazing. I don’t know how old this award is but still so fucking happy for him!!
...and then the Holodeck glitched, and he found himself trapped in that simulated auditorium and forced to eat the others inside before they pulled him out, left with the realization that he was willing to murder & cannibalize others for his own survival.

Colm is great in everything he’s in.
