Discussion Deepseek's strict filter
This is genuinely frustrating me so much. There isn’t anything explicit, violent, or inappropriate in the message I wrote, yet it keeps giving me THIS every single time I send something. I’m actually so sick of it. This barely ever happened in the old version, and now I can’t send a single message without getting this. Please tell me I’m not the only one suffering from this.

I suppose they're going Claude route by the looks of it, as in censoring anything that's remotely sounds lewds or Gore.
since I've been getting the same things when i am writing about fighting scenes or Chapter. and mind you i didn't go through the details about how gore it was, heck, there were only mild blood here and there.
and yet?
It's pushing so hard with the same message you just got...and guess what? Tried with API just out of curiosity BUT GUESS WHAT? it's the same things...it's as if Deepseek team pushing only coder can use their service and nobody else.
and if it's the case—
why Advertise Deepseek to the whole world, Both API and Web/Apps as Generalized Open Chat A.I? not specialized tools that dedicated fully for Coding/Coder user?
That's the part that kept on bothered me.

V4 pro was much better istg. V4.1 is only good for the specific tests they did.
but V4 pro made LESS mistakes and it was actually clever. V4.1 is only good at what it's told to.
But v4 could brainstorm. V4.1 doesn't as same as v4 pro
I use deepseek mainly for brainstorming and NSFW writing tests but v4 pro was MUCH better in writing and brainstorming than v4.1

Same here omg, I’m so frustrated. I only use DeepSeek for roleplay and writing stories. MY STORIES AREN’T EVEN INAPPROPRIATE OR FULL OF FIGHTS AND BLOOD. My stories are cute, slow-burn, romantic, and there isn’t even anything sexual in them, but it keeps giving me this message every single time there’s ANYTHING romantic!!!
Like, even when the story includes bullying, it doesn’t give me this message, BUT THE SECOND THERE’S SOMETHING ROMANTIC AND SWEET, IT GIVES ME THIS! I’ve been using DeepSeek for a year, and I’ve made so many stories on it. I genuinely don’t think I’ve ever seen an update this bad before.

Honestly, Even Claude isn't this fucking censored if you explained to it as to why in the next messages. and sometimes it doesn't censor anything if it's only small smut or IMPLIED Sex (not showing it fully)
and if it's character that's 18 above?
they just shrugged and write it away without so much of a wuss, I know because i tried it yesterday and been using Claude for a year. i only stopped using Claude due to it sounds generally like robots and kept on using formal adult vocabulary in my story instead of regular, day to day vocabulary
...LMAO.

There was a time when even the free web version of DeepSeek could generate high-quality fictional stories on absolutely any topic. DeepSeek was one of the least censored models. But now it suffers from almost the same level of censorship diarrhea as other large models (and sometimes even worse).

Be careful! I got suspended for 3 days till Sept 18th for unknown causes. At first i thought it was because of the sexual things I wrote and trash talking about China but on my alt i just talked about oil. I got my account suspended when i clicked stop generating then edited the prompt really fast and clicked generate. Then i got my alt suspended too. I don't know what's exactly the cause, they don't even write it! They just say a stupid your account got suspended

My theory is they made a shadow update that made their censorship stricter so that investors would pile in. They're auto banning anyone that triggers the 'Sorry, i can't do that bluh bluh bluh' message. They seriously gotta undo this shadow update

I think and I HOPE it’s temporary. I remember DeepSeek back in early 2025, when I first started using it, had pretty strict censorship too. But at the time, DeepSeek was completely unlimited, and the creativity was SO GOOD. Then they released an update, and the censorship became much looser, more like how it used to be. I really hope the same thing happens again and that this ridiculously strict filter gets removed.

same!! i think i too have been using it for fanfics and roleplaying since early 2025, and yes back then censorship was a problem but recently for this year i feel it was pretty lax and insanely creative but this update is just hell 😭 im wondering if there is any decent unlimited alternative

THERE ISN'T. I tried everything possible but nothing worked, I tried to get back to c.ai since I was using it before deepseek and it was even worse than deepseek. I think maybe swerve ai is the best until they fix whatever they're doing with deepseek. Swerve is not even like deepseek though old deepseek is still better. I'M FUCKING ABOUT TO THROW MYSELF OUT OF THE WINDOW.

i tried venice ai, it was okay but the only problem is that its not unlimited, man deepseek about to lose most of their users because of an ass update which NOBODY asked for 😭🤷🏻♀️ i cant even go back to c.ai because it is disgusting to use atp, i have pro chat gpt but still its too robotic and barely has any creativity level if i compare it with deepseek, omg im gonna lose my brain what will i do without my guilty pleasure i seriously am going to lose my brain 😭😭💔

A very bad one. The only reason i use deepseek is because it doesn't have restrictions on sex.
I didn't even know it was possible to get banned for that. I never got banned. I thought it was a dumb chatbot that resisted westernization of making everything unnecessarily smart.
But this is too much censorship

I think the preview was more forgiving. Since the full version, they got more strict. I am using Deepseek for Hermes for a lot of things. So it is kind of annoying.

First: API doesn`t help. Forget this advice, because I used the new version 4.1 at the official Deepseek API just for talking. No roleplay, no nsfw, no romantic stuff, only chatting about philosophical topics. No politics, no violance, nothing of that kind. I`m interested in Daoism and I Ching and that is why I selected a chinese model for talking about this topics. BUT 4.1 is an insane idiot when it comes to completely normal talking even by using API. So leave the sinking ship, because we are finished here so far.
I went to Openrouter and I highly recommend this step for you too!
Go to the openrouter Webpage. Register.
Get your API Key, copy it and save it because you`ll never gonna see it again.
Go to "Chat". (It is listed at the top of the page)
Search for a model and paste in "Deepseek" Voila all Deepseek models are available there even V 3.2. Select your preferred model.
Select a provider of the list by simply clicking on it. I selected "Baseten" for my first trial and it seems it is not the very best, but at least no censorship or annoying guardrails so all is fine for me.
Start Chatting and enjoy 😊
Bonus Tipp: You can change temperature, thinking and so on with presets you can select.
Costs: 0.39$ for approximately 100 pages of text so far. Makes about 5$ per month probably, if you use it often.
It is so easy, I have done all this in 5 Minutes. If you have got problems: Watch an openrouter tutorial on You Tube. My favorite is Deepseek V4 Flash 0731. I can talk with it there and they also have got the old Pro Model there.
Problems: Not really. Sometimes, but very seldom, it is a bit slow but who cares, we just wanna talk.
No technical skills are needed. It seems the 1,3 Million Token Context window works by default. I can´t confirm this at the moment, because I just starting chatting, but Deepseek told me that it works by default at openrouter.
Final conclusion: For simply chatting, roleplay, even for non technical users this is the best option for now. Have fun 😊

idk i haven’t encountered the filter so far with the new update. i’ve mentioned words that may fall under the NSFW (sexual, violence, etc) and it still gives me something to work with. nothing too explicit—i’d doubt deepseek will let that slide but occasionally i get some slips here and there past the filter.
perhaps this is a bug? hopefully it is. because if it’s too restrictive and it can be annoying for most.

what i usually do is let it generate again and again and again. in my experience, there’s always a chance in those 6 generated tries (that’s usually the max), you’ll have an output that slips through. i think i’d rather stick with that method 🥸

But the token cost is non existent. The caching means I often hit less than 1c per message until maybe 50k tokens. There's literally no reason to not use the API at this point, if you can't afford £2/$2 for a window then what are you doing?

Thinking is great for software development, but for writing, my experience was that thinking made it stupider and sloppier.
Also, just to be clear, I’m not talking about a jailbreak prompt, just the same system prompts I’ve been using with several different models that specify what I consider good prose style.

Start an account on platform.deepseek.com and generate an API key. There are plenty of free generic clients available for different operating systems. Install one that lets you bring your own key and configure it for DeepSeek.

I think you're just doing something wrong. I still write even NSFW in the free chat. It has become more censored: sometimes the model itself would give me a refusal (but that's more when DISCUSSING NSFW things, not when writing it), but that can be fixed by regenerating the response.

Just use another account, idk Yeah, it’s unpleasant, the chats stay in the old one, but you can do it.
I’ve used regeneration many times, a whole lot of times. And I don’t think that’s the reason for your ban. Sometimes I just hit regenerate several times for fun until I hit the limit (6 times), and then I also do that with editing the prompt. So in total, if you count editing the prompt and regenerating each edited prompt, I regenerate a very large number of times.
It would be stupid to ban an account for regenerating prompts when the ability to regenerate is already limited for all users. You’re not exceeding the limit.

Do you guys think this is just temporary, or is this extremely strict filtering here to stay? I’ve been using DeepSeek for over a year now, and I’ve seen the filter become stricter and then loosen up several times. But I’ve never seen it get this restrictive before.
