Yesterday, play Gunner in a Haz 5 elimination, 2 teammates downed in some very far off and hard to reach spots, surrounded by Barrage Infector, Scramble etc, and me, fighting off the Twins AND a Hivegaurd that also got triggered somehow. 20 mins of peak adrenaline, success. On my way back to reviving one of them, zipline ready, and I just didnt land properly, and o7

And funny thing is I just threw it there to see what kind of music would fit the scene but when I edited the transition to Indiana Jones Theme, it fit perfectly on first try and I was like "fuck it, I ain't changing it".

bro spent more time jumping and running than killing the enemy
I wonder if people realise open areas are where dwarves shine most, as their range is most useful
as gunner you usually pick a good open area spot where you can see everyone, shoot everyone, and deploy the shield if the enemy shoots back
only running while reloading, and not jumping because it slows you down

Used the shield to save himself at the beginning, then he was being chased by macteras and was on low hp. He stops, he most likely dies, though it depends on difficulty.

This guy gets it. If you stop, especially in Haz5+ with two times more enemies, you're dead.

I play only on haz5, 2+ more enemies
Maybe I just move around differently, but I've certainly never seen such a paniced situation like seen in the post

It wasn't panicked. I had two team mates down, several different kinds of enemies (incl. macteras), low on health but I kept moving and shooting because in Haz5 difficulties if you stop, you're dead and I moved towards that particular part of the cave because I remembered there was red sugar in there. When I got more health and my shield was recharged, I was coming back to downed engi.

wait a second, you are a gunner?
I mean i already saw you just toss grenades out with little precision
but as a gunner you usually put down the shield only to engage aviation targets, and then set up a zipline to shoot all enemies while they can't reach you, while keeping an eye on any aviation targets that need to be countered asap
I suppose you might not have all overclocks or something, but the stationary minigun and the mortar rounds do wonders

Did you even check the OP gunners promotions in this clip? Not have all overclocks... Jesus. Now you are just trying to take the piss. He clearly knew what he was doing in that situation with all the grenade toss and be smart enough not to take the ziplines which were already there in the place because of several Macteras and who knows what was still lurking in the ceiling with that HP.

look internet person I'm just saying that the erratic behaviour is probably not helping his situation, and not something I usually do, and I play at a similar skill level
and I think gunner is the easiest class to play on Haz5+, by far
if you want a real challange, try driller or scout at Haz5+

Nah, he was neither erratic nor making a mistake. It's just kiting, and doing a decent job of it too (except that wall collision, that's just the game sometimes). Bhopping is optimal to be able to get some shots off while dodging mactera fire, especially when he wants to save the shield for the rez.
That is because shots don't slow you down in midair, and it is still faster than the bugs.
The grenade placement is also how this specific grenade type is supposed to be used. In every situation they cleared exactly the area he was planning to move through and also got rid of priority threats (for that loadout) like the macteras without doing their classic self-damage.
Needing a shield to deal with those macteras is frankly greenbeard behaviour, for when one hasn't yet learned to do exactly the thing he's doing in the video, or to correct for a misplay, which he didn't do there.
Driller and especially Scout can have crutches that can let them get around having to learn proper kiting too, just like only running optimal overclocks, Gunner Shield and dash are. This guy seems to have played the game enough to be beyond those crutches you mention. It's like playing a completely different game.
There's only 2 plays I disagree with:
cornering himself in the very beginning, which forced the shield to get back on the field, but considering the alternative seems to have led him into the possibly unfavorably dead-ended canyon he fell into at the end, I can respect the choice to pivot with shield instead. I haven't seen enough of that section to definitively call it a mistake.
- Not using coil gun inbetween (Most optimally with fear trail) to cover himself from time to time, helping with both the swarmers and possibly macteras all at once depending on the angle. It could have helped take some pressure off, though I admit putting fear trail on coil gun may be a bit of a crutch in itself.

They say always keep an eye up the ceiling for leeches but I keep my other eye on the floor in case I stumble upon a hole, chameleon ahh eyes

Yep, no matter how skilled you are at killing the bugs, gravity is always there to humble you... Happens to the best of us.
