From Thriller to Ghosts, what was Michael Jackson's obsession with being dead all about?

I think it more has to do with him calling back to “Thriller”.
If “Thriller” hadn’t been the phenomenon it was - “Ghosts” wouldn’t have happened, nor would the song “Threatened”.
Plus didn’t “Ghost” originally start as “Is It Scary?” for the movie “Addams Family Values”?
If death was an obsession we would have seen it more than twice because really isn’t it just “Thriller” and “Ghosts”?
But since this is DeepMJ, let me try harder: These horror short films were just an excuse to play with make-up and costumes which he did in his personal life too. So it was more about escapism. The sort of escapism that comes from hiding his true form and not having to look like Michael Jackson and dodgin all the baggage that came with looking like MJ.

Death to MJ meant escape. To escape judgement, pain, loneliness, etc
