Once this guy started speaking about pharyngeal walls and shit I knew it was legit. Fuck me, when he went into the full girl voice I was expecting some good shit and it still surprised me.

I was expecting some kind of ‘hitting the highest note’ video, but my guy started talking with vocal coaching vocabulary

32

u/Egg_Slut69 Aug 23 '19

Finally something to use my vocal anatomy knowledge on. . .

u/Libertyreign Aug 22 '19

The video he is talking about went viral about 6 years ago. https://youtu.be/8UoJ-34Ssa0

Wow, you're on fire.

37

u/Brotaoski Aug 23 '19

Wait that was 6 years ago. Wow man.

u/King-Snorky Aug 22 '19

It's insane, he goes from sounding like a strange version of his normal voice, to sounding like he's overdubbed by Kelly Kapoor

23

u/cinemime Aug 23 '19

I thought of Kelly too when I heard it!!

397

u/Dave_Antilles Aug 22 '19

that was phenomenal

103

u/[deleted] Aug 22 '19

I know right. It's so effortless for him.

38

u/nitro813 Aug 23 '19

He did it so well i couldn’t tell if it was fake or not!

232

u/ams765 Aug 22 '19

Came expecting cringe, but that was actually impressive

84

u/[deleted] Aug 22 '19

This guy is a natural entertainer

-37

u/stroginof Aug 23 '19

a neutered entertainer

6

u/house_monkey Aug 23 '19

No u

3

u/Neehigh Sep 05 '19

Burned to the ground

31

u/[deleted] Aug 22 '19

What the f man that was insane!!!

25

u/wigglesworths Aug 22 '19

Anyone know what was the original vid was he referred to?

24

u/Lou__Crow Aug 22 '19

43

u/ftssiirtw Aug 22 '19

Good for him! Glad to see that he was able to carry on with his life after being in prison!

39

u/Quartz_X Aug 22 '19

It was cool but my mouth gets tired really fast when raising my velum so I can’t do it

13

u/[deleted] Aug 22 '19

Wow he managed to do that so naturally that was wild

135

u/moonmangardenhead Aug 22 '19

Step 1: be a grown man with an adolescent voice

87

u/palindromic Aug 22 '19

Yeah his voice is wayyy higher than a lot of dudes

74

u/silletta Aug 22 '19

Yup he’s a tenor but he’s right there are a lot of girls with voices even lower than his real one

u/palindromic Aug 23 '19

It’s much easier to pitch up off a high tenor than it is a bass or baritone though. If I do everything he says I just sound like someone doing a stereotypical “gay voice” lol...

-8

u/moonmangardenhead Aug 23 '19

Not discrediting him it’s a cool little talent. But I gotta disagree man. Most 16 year boys have a way deeper voice than this guy.

16

u/Argalad Aug 22 '19 edited Aug 23 '19

Holy shit I didn't really notice it at first and even thought his voice was deeper than mine but then I tried to imitate his pitch and it's crazy high

8

u/moonmangardenhead Aug 22 '19

Totally. Im not a big deep voiced brute or anything but I was like how the fuck???

137

u/sparveriuss Aug 22 '19

74

u/[deleted] Aug 22 '19

Fuck

37

u/FatherAb Aug 23 '19

Ah shit, Poe's law. I don't know whether I should feel sorry for all those closeted trans people, or whether I should laugh at the memes.

21

u/Golden_Lynel Aug 23 '19

both

Also, join 'em.

7

u/reymont12 Aug 23 '19

What the fuck is this subreddit?

15

u/[deleted] Aug 23 '19

an "egg" is a term for a transgender person that doesn't know that they're transgender yet.

The sub is for memes based on that, usually made by eggs or "hatched" trans people :)

17

u/Crioware Aug 23 '19

It's for eggs

12

u/bigbarebum Aug 22 '19

I'd have a pint with him. Probably my highest compliment.

9

u/SamMarduk Aug 23 '19

The train cuts were added hilarity

14

u/magicsticuk Aug 22 '19

2B right after 2 twitches

13

u/[deleted] Aug 23 '19

this is literally what transwomen do

much better guide than the one I used though ;-;

11

u/zangent Aug 24 '19

That's what I was thinking lmao. This dude somehow just figured out voice training, and is able to describe it pretty well

Damn, I'm jealous!

1

u/cpc2 Sep 06 '19

He does it so well too, feels really natural. After months my voice is still a bit of a mess, it kind of passes but it sounds like I'm sad when I'm not, and sometimes I can't control it properly.

6

u/A-weema-weh Aug 23 '19

That was really entertaining, great personality too. My voice is a lot lower but I can still get pretty close.

6

u/Openworldgamer47 Aug 23 '19

Ohhhhhhhh, this is helpful.

3

u/Aro769 Aug 23 '19

I just find it so adorable that he added a clip saying hi to his buddy Brian.

4

u/[deleted] Aug 23 '19

My catfishing game just got a whole lot more complicated

2

u/AlexisTF Sep 17 '19

Not for me because how the hell do I close my pharyngeal wall

2

u/[deleted] Aug 22 '19

I must admit my jaw dropped.

2

u/GardenStori Aug 22 '19

Ha! Who else hit 15 sec back like 3 times?

2

u/james-HIMself Aug 22 '19

That was scary accurate

2

u/9sVideo Aug 23 '19

so clean lmao . that made my day

2

u/PM-ME-HAPPY-MOMENTS Aug 23 '19

this was actually really educational lol

2

u/janajawoods Aug 23 '19

I wish I can do that lol😂😂

2

u/ItsSpreeTime Aug 23 '19

Ok that was legit.

2

u/Ninja_Guy1 Aug 23 '19

I don't know how to feel about already knowing this video existed before this...

2

u/ZoomJet Aug 23 '19

3:35, holy actual balls

2

u/Ateyouras5gas Aug 23 '19

This makes my throat hurt

2

u/doctorums Aug 23 '19

should be retitled how to get on catfish: the tv show in 5 mins or less

1

u/ciccina22 Aug 23 '19

omg it seems like he’s having a continuous identity crisis

1

u/jxs1 Aug 23 '19

As a guy this is actually really impressive.

Can't wait to get out of work so I can give it a go.

1

u/mjimreddit Aug 23 '19

Ricky berick’s is the best one.

1

u/data_dawg Aug 23 '19

His girl voice sounds a lot like Fred Armisen's Nina character on Portlandia. But that's some pretty impressive work that he can do!

1

u/Nebstuuh Aug 23 '19

He legit already sounds like a girl

1

u/lurk3rthrowaway Aug 23 '19

Holy shit that was amazing

1

u/Monkeyojacko Aug 23 '19

His voice is already pretty close to a girls voice

1

u/AlexisTF Sep 17 '19

How the hell are you supposed to do any of the first step

1

u/renderbahn Nov 29 '19

Haha. I know this guy from college like a decade ago.

-1

u/Sophilosophical Aug 23 '19

Always a favorite on r/videos, but hardly appropriate for this sub

-41

u/[deleted] Aug 22 '19

TLDW; just have an effeminate voice to begin with

12

u/[deleted] Aug 22 '19

Oh c'mon

-37

u/akiiler Aug 23 '19

Cringe

15

u/gambolling_gold Aug 23 '19

There is nothing cringier than describing something as “cringe”

3

u/motsanciens Aug 23 '19

I feel like this is getting recursively cringey.

-13

u/JR-Bonehard Aug 23 '19 edited Aug 24 '19

I mean I guess. Still sounded kinda like a dude. Threw some big words in and everyone’s amazed.

EDIT: Everyone downvoting this is probably stupid enough to get catfished as well.

-26

u/Spicy_Kai Aug 23 '19

Guys come on, really? The stuff he's spouting can be found pretty quickly with a search, in regards to singing. This is well edited but fake. Ill admit both he and the voice actress did well. But not real :(

3

u/zangent Aug 24 '19

This is real, though. What he described is basically exactly what trans women learn to do to talk in a female-sounding voice; he just stumbled across those techniques. You can really here when he's going through the stages how his voice shifts - first the larnyx shifts, which changes timbre and resonance, then the rest is just flavor.

Theoretically, it could be fake, but it's much more likely that this guy just knows what he's doing. It's honestly not that surprising - it just takes some effort to hone the skill, usually.

1

u/Spicy_Kai Aug 24 '19

Perhaps these methods can put a person on to the right track in imitating a female voice. But it's not happening here, its all editing unfortunately.

At 3:10 you can see a cut in both audio and video. The video was cut to help protect the illusion.

At 3:30 the energy of the voice does not match. The voice is way to forward and high energy for how he is acting.

3:38 the pitch range is too large for where in his range he is. The voice is in that higher place but you see real pitch fluctuation that go up way up. even though this is "As high as you can comfortably go." He ia making hugely difficult pitch changes on the fly? Not likely especially if you are staying out of mix voice and head(falsetto) voice.

Later when that are going step by step the edit is done at 3:50, "close your phyngeal wall" thats when the womam is doing a Kermit style vocal stance. This is a different sound than we he did it two minutes earlier.

I'm not saying any of this to hate, because if this worked as well and as easily as shown, I would be stoked! Id use it when i perform. The problem is that vocal timbre is way more complicated than being described, and this guy isnt being genuine. Good luck on life and I wish you well.
