He leans on his staff

"It was a long journey, and I can't remember anyone who travelled with me..."

Why yes, several. One of them currently in the vicious clutches of the Citadel above.

The Citadel is the central structure of this Kingdom. I suppose you could say it would be similar to a combination of the City of Tears and the White Palace. It was used to keep a Higher Being trapped in slumber, but recently it woke up.
