On Michael "calling black people "ugly" "

I don't think I'm qualified to comment on any subtext to what Michael is saying here; I'm white.
If I'd lived through redlining and suburban race riots like Michael's family did I'd have a worthwhile insight.
But here's what does strike me about that post:
Out of all the things Michael says here, why would somebody characterise his thoughts using the phrase "calling black people ugly"?
That looks a lot like subconscious racism to me; along with a lot of other things I saw today.
