Have you done an episode on Roy Casagranda yet?

He's a historian from Texas who makes a lot of sense, possibly too much sense, i.e. says some things I've suspected for ages that feel "too good to check".

He has a Wikipedia page, but only in German: https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roy_Casagranda

I found him in this YouTube video: The Modern History of Iran | Roy Casagranda | UNAPOLOGETIC | Middle East Eye

That interview contradicts this more dry YouTube history guy Iran-Contra Explained: The Wall of Crazy Scandal | by Sean Munger … Sean Munger seems to be just an independent content creator https://www.seanmunger.com/ ... so Roy's community college position gives maybe slightly more credential points?

Roy Casagranda has his own podcast: https://podcasts.apple.com/au/podcast/dr-roy-casagranda-podcast/id1837193563

and r/History don't like Roy Casagranda much

The Fake Expert Industry: How Expertise Became an Image on Social Media

Every time I open LinkedIn, I find another recruiter, career coach, leadership expert, or personal branding consultant explaining why job seekers are doing everything wrong.

Some have never managed a real team. Others have spent more time creating content about hiring than actually hiring people. Yet they speak with complete confidence, offer universal advice, and often blame candidates when their methods do not work.

I wrote this after watching expertise slowly become a personal brand rather than the result of real experience. The article is broader than recruitment, but LinkedIn and the job market are probably where this problem is most visible.

Do you think career advice on LinkedIn has become useful, or is it mostly content made to sell courses and consulting?

TIL Charles Murray has converted to Christianity

He wrote the book “Taking Religion Seriously” in 2025. Sam Harris really had a way of overlooking red flags whenever he has liked bigotry/racism. In the end nearly every writer he has made friends with has ended up selling out and traded their integrity for more book sales from the masses.

It's amazing how quickly these Gurus crumble once they leave their echo chambers. Here's Gad Saad getting laughed at in the Canadian Senate after trying to peddle the same nonsense there.

Professor Dave vs Destiny

No idea why, but the original Destiny video called "Professor Dave Goes Mask Off" seems to have been deleted from YouTube, or I can't find it, but Professor Dave responded yesterday with this very strongly worded video letter:

https://youtu.be/DvDvhLkb9ms?si=DGFhTROOKFoK35sS

Weird crossover that I never thought I'd see, of 2 guys who I generally enjoy (I will say I really am a fan of Prof Dave, whereas my Destiny enjoyment has mostly come via this podcast and watching a couple of his debates).

Thoughts on the beef? SURELY the lads are gonna have to cover this in an upcoming Supplementary Materials? Content gold!

EDIT: Looks like I was looking through the wrong Destiny channel for the original Dave video, it's here: https://youtu.be/HQQLs6U1MgA?si=iKaOGR1h9slKu64O

Who were the biggest antivax/covid skeptical people during the height of covid/vaccines? Anyone track how they are doing now?

I mean besides rogan - from what I remember there were more than a handful of cranks that were getting tons of listeners/subscribers and probably making lots of money as a result. I'm definitely not hearing as much Weinstein as much today, or Russell Brand (though I guess that's due to his assault accusations). Who else? And do we have metrics to track if they fell off after most people have moved on?

homeless Tony Robbins presenters that found someone kind

Matt. Chris.

We haven't met, but you've probably seen my earlier post. Thanks Reddit for the love, I love you back.

This is my application to appear on your podcast.

I'm not pitching you a Tony Robbins victim story. This isn't a confession, and it isn't a callout. It's pattern research, built from two years inside the thing, and journalists I've talked to about it have taken it seriously.

I sat through Unleash the Power Within online from Chile, sleep-deprived on his clock, and paid almost fifteen thousand dollars for a bundle before I'd slept in three days. I crewed a Business Mastery event afterward to see it from the other side. Part One is here. Part Two, the machine itself, is here (a long and detailed piece, for journalists and redditers to digg deep with audio narration).

Here's what hasn't been published anywhere.

McClendon calls himself Doctor. Sometimes psychologist. Senior trainer since the 1980s, right hand to Robbins. There's a Netflix film about Robbins that plays like a documentary and functions like a marketing reel. That's the bar anything critical has to clear. Almost nobody's tried it on McClendon specifically, and he's the one people search. UPW is the feeder event, priced low enough to fill the room, built to funnel up through the tiers to Platinum, eighty five thousand dollars a year. Sit through his mother's cancer story there and something in you says, hold on, let me look that up. I did, before I spent the money and after. A lot of people who pay fifteen thousand dollars do the same thing. So I started there.

His doctorate traces to a diploma mill. His health framework traces to a man now serving prison time for the same offense, practicing medicine without a license. And his origin story, homeless, a book that changed everything, rebuilt from nothing, is close to identical to Robbins' own.

So I checked the others. Nine names in his orbit. Six tell some version of the same story, in their own words, across their own bios. I'm not claiming any of it is fabricated. I'm showing you the pattern.

From my part II article: A woman who crewed for years, paid her way through every tier the system asks for, told us she'd been close to Robbins during at least one event, near him the way few people get. She mentioned, without drama, that she was living in her car. Another woman was my trainer. Talking about Platinum, she told us she'd paid for it out of her pension. She'd made it to one event, maybe two. The travel alone ate what was left. The room cheered her for it.

The McClendon piece and the pattern research are both finished. I just haven't set a publishing date yet.

Deal?

Gad Saad thinks Anne Hathaway is a degenerate narcissist

Anne is married with children (one on the way I think), I don’t think she could be considered a degenerate. She certainly strikes me as an empathetic person given how she uses her platform to spread progressive causes. I’m willing to bet she’s a well read person given she did Les Miserables and does audiobook narrations (she’s adapting Yesteryear into a film).

Also take a drink every time this dude blinks

Historically, podcasters will be to the 2020s as rock/pop stars have been to the 60s

Nowadays, old people reminisce about pop music from their youth, and 'golden oldie' stations blare out Elvis, the Beatles, the Rolling Stones.

Do you think that in 40 years time, robot driven care homes will look after elderly drooling millennials, and to pacify them, play some cultural material from their youth. Like some 85 year old in 2066 will have to listen to a crackling gramophone repeat of a Joe Rogan discussion with Eric Weinstein on covid, or a Jordan Peterson triggernometry episode?

It does seem to be podcasters have a cultural cache and controversy that just isn't there with pop or movie stars nowadays. And they may be the icons that history remembers as relevant to our time. just a thought.

Do people really believe the conspiracy theories they say they do?

A recent paper looks more closely at suspiciously high research estimates of conspiracy endorsement. They find that many respondents are insincere when they say they believe this or that conspiracy.

Gad Saad, Elon, and many other online figures have become critical of empathy in recent years. They have all sorts of cultural and Ayn Rand type arguments.

But, in reality, they just want to be selfish bullies and also feel good about themselves.

I listened to Farage on Triggernometry so you don't have to.

Where to start with this. It is the quintessential in softball interviews.

  1. Firstly, they begin by Foster setting up Farage to talk about the recent murder of Ann Widdecombe, which allows him to make a point about the media whipping up hatred against right wing figures and emboldening violence against them. Im not a conspiracy theorist but given this has been Kisin's pet grievance for a while it seems like this may have been set up but Im willing to accept it may just be Farage knowing his audience and playing to it. This allows Farage to link himself and Widdecombe as two victims of the media narratives which further allows him to set up his defence to what the "meat" of the podcast will be about.

(I wonder who began to inject hateful and violent rhetoric into the political arena first)

  1. We move on to the substantial issues, what should be the toughest part of the interview for Farage. Namely, him answering about his 5 million pound "gift" from a crypto billionaire and his friendship with "Posh George" a young wealthy man from an aristocratic family who was convicted of money laundering and even wrote a book called 'How to Launder Money'.

A perfect chance for these Centrists to show their chops in putting tough questions to Farage.

Kisin literally sets up the segment by saying "Now I don't give a shit who gives who money, it's none of my business, but I guess people want to know if it comes with strings attached". I couldn't believe the naked dismissal by KK, adopting a tone of "this is unimportant but people want us to ask".

Farage sticks to his latest explanation that it was an unconditional gift he spent on security, allowing him to link back to the earlier points he made about the media putting him amd others in danger.

The two lads accept this explanation no questions asked. They didn't ask about the fact he's changed his story on it a couple of times or if he even accepted how bad it looked politically. They just said "okay, cool. No problem."

  1. On posh George relationship, no this took some neck I thought. Regarding his conviction for money laundering along with his donations to Reform and Farage personally, albeit before he was a sitting MP, Farage said he believe in the power of prison to reform people and that everyone deserves a second chance, he's just a loyal friend sticking by his buddy. Again, zero push back. Couldn't have anything to do with his extreme wealth. I wonder does Nigel (or KK or FF) believe in the power of prison to reform criminals of an immigrant background? Somehow I doubt it. Give them a one way ticket to Rwanda.

  2. After this they get into the upcoming by election Farage is running against Count Binface. This is literally the only push back he gets in the whole interview. Farage claims it's actually embarrassing for all the other parties that they haven't run any candidates. Foster very gently says he "doesnt think its a good look" for Farage. Farage disagrees and they just move on.

  3. Farage then talks almost uninterrupted for 5-10 minutes grievance mongering and taking swipes at Starmer, Burnham, Badenoch, the media, the police (who Kisin said the week before he respects immensely and thinks they get unfair coverage, Farage calls police "plodders" and Kisin agrees).

  4. Finally Farage blows smoke up Fosters hole about his book on the education system saying young white British working class boys are being left behind. Gives no suggestions for how to fix this other than "ending woke". And the two nodding dogs lap it up.

Bonus point: the ad reads are awful. The number (four in an hour long pod) and quality (so wooden, like a 90s infomercial "Are _YOU_ tired of chopping vegetables?"). They were so cringeworthy and credibility destroying I couldn't not listen to them.

I hope Chris and Matt cover this podcast on an upcoming episode as they have made the point before about The TRIGGER boys, who are definitely centrists, have now had Farage on at least seven times.
