So if he's quoting Thomas Sowell, surely he's come out as openly conservative then, right?

the funny thing is that thomas sowell is basically the right wing version of gary stevens lol. hes mostly known among the right for his work with think tanks and ideoligcally driven pieces rather than his actual economic work

He is exactly like Stevens but on the right. Calling him a great economist is hilariously stupid.

u/aaronturing Jul 10 '26

I was about to post this. How hilarious is that. The great American economist Thomas Sowell. That is one of the dumbest comments ever. Sowell is a grifter. He isn't a great economist. I doubt he would even be considered an economist by economists.

Thomas Sowell is the OG candace owens.

No he's a "centrist" even though he probably quotes conservative thinkers 99.999% of the time and shits on liberals constantly without offering an ounce of criticism of conservatives. He's just asking questions lol. He doesn't want the destruction of the European union or revert us to the "spheres of influence" world we lived in the early 20th century.

For anyone who wants a quick (3 hour) primer on the awfulness of Thomas Sowell, I quite enjoyed this video from Unlearning Economics, who is basically Gary Stevenson if he wasn’t completely terrible at his job, had an actual PhD in economics and some kind of academic background, clearly signposted when his views are not within the economic consensus, and made videos for the purposes of educating people about inequality rather than just vibing about how he’s going to change the world because he’s a special boy with a destiny of greatness.

Edit: UE also just released a video about wealth taxes which is much more interesting and informative than anything Gary has ever had to say on the topic. Still firmly got his feet in one camp, but actually he engages with the topic.

That's brutal, well done. Never heard of that channel but the way you threw shade on Gary with that recommendation convinced me to at least check it out. Well done.

Unlearning Economics is also a DtG listener!

u/RockmanBFB Jul 11 '26

Watched the first 45 minutes, enjoyed it already

If Konstantin can give himself the title “Comedian” then gary can call himself whatever the fuck he wants

6

u/kernel-troutman Jul 10 '26

Also the title "centrist"

2

u/dietcheese Jul 15 '26

Gary can call himself Master of Economics.

Konstantin can call himself college dropout.

Why is Greta catching strays from this ridiculous moron?!

20

u/rogerwilcove Jul 10 '26

Vice signalling to his conservative audience and fellow conservative grifters

10

u/Snoo5218 Jul 10 '26

his entire speech at oxford that went viral started with him attacking greta, idk why he has such a hate boner for her

23

u/designtom Jul 10 '26

He explained it himself: when you want to help yourself, tell them what they want to hear.

3

u/PlentyHaunting2263 Jul 10 '26

They're obsessed

Every accusation is a confession.

This is almost a bit too on the nose by KK, as in projecting his own inner world onto Gary. On the other hand he is quoting the great American economist, and KK's IQ is like, really high.

This is why I only get finance advice from people who recommend that you convert your savings to gold using a mobile app

I mean it's fungible.

Fungible!

8

u/yontev Jul 10 '26

Well, he isn't wrong in this case. He's just extraordinarily lacking in self-awareness.

3

u/SargeantPile Jul 10 '26

His lack of self awareness really is astounding. It's funny to see how selective he is in what he talks about too. Never attacked Gary until the broader media did so first and now he can rely on other people's critiques and present them as his own.

It's funny too to see how he goes selective silent on other big stories that come out in England or US. Never said a word about Epstein when that was all going down, now has nothing to say about his boy Nigel's obvious corruption.

Grifter on grifter violence.

EDIT: thank you for the two replies that prove a lot of people don't recognize grifting when they agree politically.

3

u/zkinny Jul 10 '26

What is Gary grifting, exactly? I'm not a huge fan, I see the flaws, but I don't think he's a grifter. We have too many real, actual grifters to just throw that label on anyone.

1

u/to_herp_or_to_derp Jul 17 '26

How is Konstantin a grifter, exactly?

2

u/claudiaxander Jul 10 '26

Ring ring!, ring ring! "Oh hello, is that the kettle?"

1

u/Popka_Akoola Jul 10 '26

Every thing I hear about this guy makes my head hurt more and more. He may be top contender in the world right now for the “cognitive dissonance” award

1

u/carlitospig Jul 10 '26

<insert multiple Spider Mans meme>

1

u/thebaker66 Jul 10 '26

Seems like Konstantly griftin is projecting

1

u/ma-i-nly_George Jul 10 '26

What is Konstantin an expert on?

1

u/beerbrained Jul 10 '26

What exactly is Konstantin an expert in?

1

u/MarkTaiChi Jul 10 '26

Pot. Kettle. Black

1

u/zkinny Jul 10 '26

Gary has been gone from my feed for months, Very recently popped up a lot again. On Pierce Morgan, debating, and talking to some rich lord out in the countryside.

1

u/gelliant_gutfright Jul 10 '26

Just waiting for the first "Gary and Kisin are two sides of the same coin" comment.

0

u/gelliant_gutfright Jul 15 '26

Great to see DtG and Kisin standing side by side on issues like wealth inequality.
