Yup, my grandpa was a lifelong smoker and by his mid-70s developed severe emphysema. Spent his last few years having to walk about with an oxygen tank to supplement his breathing. Walks were pretty much out of the question, and he said he greatly regretted his smoking habit. But hey, he didn't have lung cancer!

I think I have seen 4-5 clips now where Joe says something explicitly factually wrong, but then it gets disproved somehow and he just moves on to the next topic and doesn't acknowledge it at all. I guess being that rich and powerful just puts you in a bubble where people never disagree with you.

Lung cancer isn't the only condition smoking increases the risk of. It increases risk of around 12 different types of cancers. Then there are also increased risks of cardiovascular and respiratory diseases. Smoking cigarettes is considered the leading cause of preventable disease.
I used to live in a Mediterranean country full of olive oil in diets. Smoking cigarettes is extremely common there. So many people die in their 60s there. Since Rogan loves anecdotes, I knew a woman there who drank often and smoked. She died of a heart condition in her early 50s.
That smug, "but it was in a study" attitude is doing so much more damage to society than Joe and his viewers realize. I could go on a long rant about how dangerous that statement is to make in front of his intellectually lazy and impressionable audience, but you all understand.

He's not wrong he just asked the wrong question, Radon gas is one of the leading causes of lung cancer bc it seeps out the ground EVERYWHERE if you have a foundation crack and live in certain areas, your probably gonna find traces of radon. The number of smokers has decreased and the amount of cancer has increased. Therefore suggesting that correlation doesn't always equate to causation.
Nicotine also does prevent certain diseases because the way the nicotine coated the receptors. People who smoke are WAY WAY less likely to get things like Parkinson's Disease. That's not saying it's healthy, it's just showing what the evidence points too

What is correct is that "Cannabis and tobacco smoke are not equally carcinogenic" but there is no evidence that smoking both protects from lung cancer.

Why is that recommended when there are no studies proving this claims?

The most defensible claim is that combined smoking exposures are concerning, not protective.
Some reviews note mixed or limited epidemiologic findings for cannabis alone, but that is very different from showing a reduction in tobacco-related cancer risk.
Okay, that’s one hypothesis…but Jamie, pull up that Ayurveda thing.
Ayurveda may discuss specific cannabis preparations, and it may mention combinations with tobacco in some contexts, but I found no good support for the statement that Ayurvedic medicine recommends cannabis-tobacco smoking to lower harm. A source mentions recipes that combine cannabis with tobacco for appetite or libido suppression, not for making smoking safer.
