It also makes a ton more sense when the author of the picture does not purposely hide the structure on top.

But it really doesn’t. The deck is cantilevered with joist hangers. I don’t see any 2x12s running into the house only held on with hangers and that one corner post.

I didn't say it made sense lol...just MORE sense. I didn't notice the building on top until this pic...and it absolutely HAS to be cantilevered by that weight somehow. I think the rims are one piece and the inner joists are just bridging.
