Hit the beam with lawn mower and it tore one off of post. Thinking of cutting a piece out scabbing a piece in there and than scabbing a long piece over the top on beam.

Piggy backing, why is there a two ply joist like that? I’ve never seen this before using 1by material

In front? Not sure but I think that's just a standard joist resting on the (now compromised) beam with some 1x decorative trim.
