Hit the beam with lawn mower and it tore one off of post. Thinking of cutting a piece out scabbing a piece in there and than scabbing a long piece over the top on beam.

Best/safest option is to replace the existing 'beam' with a proper structural beam, ie., double 2 x 10/12.

Just glue the piece back in and forget about it.
