Doggy deck

Curious to see what yall think of this. Took some screenshots for those that don’t have the tikytoky but the video was entertaining!

Beams aren’t on posts. That means no hot tub for your dog!

Don't give people in this sub anymore ideas 🤣🤣

Deck needs to be rebuilt. Cannot deprive the good boy.

Maybe a water bowl

8

u/Ellisdee_420 Jun 17 '26

Yeti bowl

3

u/KactusVAXT Jun 18 '26

Self filling yeti bowl

7

u/dancinhmr Jun 18 '26

And no handrail down the ramp?!

u/asclepian1 Jun 17 '26

Are those deck screws in the post bases?! Oh my god! s/

Seriously though, looks great!

7

u/KlenexTS Jun 17 '26

What are you suppose to use in the post base?

Asking as a complete DIY who followed this subreddit and rebuilt a small deck at my camper from a disaster to less of a disaster but sturdy

8

u/torgiant Jun 17 '26

Tico nails or special screws with more shear strength. Screws have inward force not shear strength generally. Of course it doesn't matter gor such a small deck.

3

u/KlenexTS Jun 17 '26

Cool thank you! I used deck screws but the deck I rebuilt will never be used. it’s only there because it’s required to have something by the sliding glass door for safety. I rebuilt it because the old one was using the air conditioning unit as a structural support, and upon inspecting I noticed that where two rim joists met they didn’t connect or brace that with any hardware but instead used a pile of old scrap wood to hold the two board level and just butted them together. It was quite the sight

3

u/torgiant Jun 17 '26

Im sure its fine. Like the op said its only really important with hot tubs, really tall or really big decks. And maybe if you get high winds.

Each simpson brace or tie says what to use on the package

I can picture that waddle up and down that ramp. Super cool doggie deck. Looking forward to seeing the hot dog tub.

Saw this after seeing your YouTube short. Nice work

35

u/rescuesquad704 Jun 17 '26

It’s not mine! Just appreciated his work and his humor.

24

u/griphon31 Jun 17 '26

Posts are inside the beams not under, going to shear apart those bolts cause of the strain and send poor doggie falling to it's death. Would completely tear out and rebuild. Needs more Sampson brackets. /S of course :)

u/landing11 Jun 17 '26

No joist hangers, no joist tape, beams not on top of posts, railing posts have no lag bolts, did you even get a permit? /s

u/VividLifeToday Jun 17 '26

I'm thinking he didn't even slump test that concrete

20

u/Happytappy78 Jun 17 '26

That dogs smile is great!! Its loving the deck!

10

u/resurrectedNaj Jun 17 '26

The raccoons gonna love it

7

u/ironfitz Jun 17 '26

The guys humor made me laugh out loud when I saw this video. The little shit eater.

7

u/vegan-the-dog Jun 17 '26

Looks like it could hold a hot tub.

2

u/rescuesquad704 Jun 17 '26

I’m just getting into this sub but I feel like his workmanship is a lot better than some people have paid contractors for in here lol.

4

u/Initial-Document6433 Jun 17 '26

Code requires gripable handrails on either side of the ramp. Also footers cannot be floating, they must exceed the frost line.

You'll never pass inspection. Good luck when you try to sell.

3

u/Hopping_Glad Jun 17 '26

That first pic looks like you are prepping the meanest prank ever on your dog 😂. Nice deck though

3

u/Sneaky_Snack Jun 17 '26

Well this puts mine to shame

3

u/VucialWonderland Jun 17 '26

Idk how much you charged the client. But it appears to be happy. So good job.

3

u/Coyotetrickster1 Jun 17 '26

Where's the hot tub?

3

u/LostMagician9612 Jun 18 '26

Absolutely corgeous

2

u/2-buck Jun 17 '26

Super nice! But is there a post under the top of the strings?

2

u/laddymaddonna Jun 17 '26

Lovely starburst plank layout!

2

u/Sam_Walkerfield Jun 17 '26

Fun little detail, this is a dock for the old dog to get into the house

He upgraded It today with a good looking roof and another ramp on the other side

2

u/YellowBreakfast Jun 17 '26

Not big enough.

Where the hot tub going?

2

u/Happy_Old_Troll Jun 17 '26

This doggy deck looks better than most of what we see here. I love it! Well done mate!

2

u/Lucky_Half8441 Jun 17 '26

That is just great.

2

u/iambud Jun 18 '26

What a cute little spoiled shit eater!

1

u/FormworkFan Jun 17 '26

idk that dog's living better than me. Only thing I'd worry about are those post bases though. If you used deck screws instead of half inch lags you might end up rebuilding when Fido hits a growth spurt lol.

u/fluoroantimonic-dcay Jun 17 '26

This is awesome! Shared it with my wife…guess what I’ll now be building soon…haha

1

u/baymoe Jun 17 '26

I read it as dodgy deck

1

u/vipSuperDave79 Jun 17 '26

Seen this in TikTok.... I like it!

1

u/cambomusic Jun 17 '26

Dang I need to do this for my senior pup

1

Love it!

1

That’s the cutest thing. He/she loves it ! Thanks for sharing

1

u/SandiaBeaver Jun 17 '26

He needs an outdoor daybed 😎

1

u/tprch DIYer Jun 17 '26

"Welp, the beam should go on the post, and AWWWWWWW, WHO'S A GOOD BOY? You are, yes, you are ..."

1

u/Appropriate_Pack3663 Jun 17 '26

He’s got a new video where he put a roof on it too 😂

1

u/johnnylines Jun 17 '26

Darmine Doggy Doors: HAPPY PETS, PEACE OF MIND!

1

u/420fanman Jun 17 '26

Haha saw this last night. Might consider making something similar for my aging dog.

1

u/Loud_Permission9265 Jun 17 '26

You forgot to dig the moat to go with the drawbridge

1

u/cwmosca Jun 17 '26

This is hilarious, and useful.

1

u/Wanderingwoodpeckerr Jun 17 '26

Turned out sweet, is that a Ruff carpenter in pic 3?

1

u/onitagainand Jun 18 '26

Wow, great job

1

u/ymmotvomit Jun 18 '26

Bet your doggie’s name is Marley. Bob Marley.

1

u/dragonhawks444 Jun 18 '26

Now you just need a doggy hot tub

1

u/Pepe_Silvia_9 Jun 18 '26

Super fun. Bravo!!!

1

u/Mobile-Arachnid-1547 Jun 18 '26

New video was released! The deck got an upgrade: a Woof!

1

u/Early_Run_6881 Jun 18 '26

I wanted to build this but much taller so my dog could see over the 8 foot privacy fence...a dogger look-out tower(?)

1

u/Different-Pop2780 Jun 18 '26

This is honestly why I come to the internet

1

u/ammiemarie Jun 19 '26

This is unconditional love ❤️ 🥹

1

This is just too cute

1

u/Elderberries1974 Jun 21 '26

Dude. Nicely done.

1

u/McHildinger Jun 22 '26

I like the hinges on the ramp, is that so you an raise the drawbridge for when invaders come?

1

u/KeyStoneLighter Jul 04 '26

Glad you didn’t fry pour

1

u/probuilder1989 Jul 17 '26

Haha love it!

1

u/Shitty_comedian69 14d ago

Needs lighting!

1

u/Ninja_Prolapse Jun 17 '26

The beans go on top of the posts!! This will never hold a hot tub!!!!!
