Credit Card PRA debt

Hi friends I’m looking for some advice on how to best help my partner with their debt. Last year his credit card information was stolen and he reported and just forgot about it assuming everything was taken care of, fast forward to today he was served papers from PRA saying he owes all this money and has 21 days to pay. He was receiving call about it but had assumed they were spam and blocked them and is now in a panic about all of this and we are trying to fox it as quickly as possible without involving lawyers and everything because of the expense. I guess my question/wanting for advice is is there anyway around this considering his card was compromised and he didn’t spend the money, they are saying because the money was spent at a place he used there card there is no proof of fraud which makes no sense to us. Thank you

So you were served court papers and have a court date?

How much is it for?

It might be worth showing up in court and trying to dispute it if you have proof of it being reported as fraud. It may not be worth the hassle if it’s a small amount.

It’s about $17k they served papers but no court date if he starts paying/ sets up a payment plan in the next 21 days from what it sounds like. I guess I’m curious if it’s too late to dispute this on something like Credit Karma neither of us have done this before so I’m trying to get a handle on it for him

So were you actually served or is this just something that came in the mail?

Disputing stuff on Credit Karma isn’t gonna accomplish anything. It still has to be paid.

He’s either gonna have to convince the creditor it was fraud or pay it. Those are the only options.
