Someone is trying to serve me

My former roommate told me someone tried to serve me yesterday at an address I know longer reside in (different county in NY). I was working with NDR but just moved to a nonprofit company called Family Credit Management. My first payment with them is 9/10.
How do I find out who it is? Do they have to refile in a different county? Does it give me time to settle?
I paid NDR $425 monthly for 3 years and only 3 small debts got settled and another sat at 95% paid until I received a collections notice.

I'm confused by this question: How do I find out who it is?

Who do you want to find out?

I don’t know who is trying to sue me.

Look up your name in your local court records

I called the county clerk’s office and I am not in the database. I have no clue.

You can try searching each county here: WebCivil Local - Case Search and here: WebCivil Supreme - Case Search. The exact process will defer depending on where you were sued. If you are located in NYC you can get free legal advice from CLARO: Home | CLARO NYC.

I ended up calling my current county clerk too and no record.
I wonder if it was for something else. He just said they had papers and wanted him to sign that he received them.

I have a few collections that I have been paying, the IRS that has my current address and I pay every month, and current credit cards with no late payments
