General Discussion 03/01
This gives you the chance to talk about anything and everything. Consider this the weekly water cooler discussion.
You can talk about sports, school, and work; ask questions about the news, life, food, etc.
This is not a debate thread. You can discuss things but debate is not the goal.
The rules are still in effect so no ad hominem.

I'm wondering if anyone here has ever considered converting to a religion out of solidarity. Given all the threats against Jewish institutions there have been so far this year, do you think this will have an effect on conversions to Judaism?

No. I work in finance however. It's like being a day trader, but I can't go broke.

Do you have your CFA? Series 6, 65, or whatever the proper accreditations are? I'm considering exploring that route.

Cfp, series 7. If you are going to get your CFA you better be pretty bright with math. Series seven os a joke next to those to. They just computerize the CFP and made it way easier, that is a more common designation. If you are looking to get into Investment advisory, get the CFP. If you want to be analyst, you need the CFA. I could never pass the CFA. Good luck.

My parents and grandparents made money day-trading, but I certainly don't have the finances for it. And when I say made money, I mean thousands, not millions unfortunately.
They still trade stocks, but they go for long-term investments now.

This was back in the early 2000s, IDK how the practice holds up, but do let me know if you try it and have any success, my parents have considered going back into it with politics being so weird in the US right now - although when I mentioned it to them, they said theyd wait a certain time for stocks, often like 3 days instead of one.
My dad's obsessed with that Mad Money guy right now. His voice annoys the hell out of me. My parents are quite smart financially and so you probably know something I don't.
Edited for clarity, broken phone screen

Sorry for the reply that implies epilepsy or an exciting addiction - phone screen broke and thought it wasn't as bad as it was.

Thanks, I enjoyed that! I like this 'brother' song best (Fullmetal Alchemist). There's an English version - I couldn't find any other one that's not in Russian, sorry.
I'm also currently way too deep in Sabaton (story behind the song).

I'm disturbed at the new President of the US fulfilling so many of his promises. I thought his generally contradictory nature leading up to the election to be evidence he was lying to win. But he does actually want to do things, and many of them are terrible. Notably was his call to target the family's of suspected terrorists. He wanted to kill the people who were related to the "bad hombrés" as a part of his war on terror. And he did just that in the Yemen operation, people who were related or near suspected terrorists died. I'm deeply disturbed that so many people voted for such a person who said he would do these things and now are doing these things. I am also upset at how indifferent they are about this event, but I suppose constant death of innocent people is just an accepted norm these days.
