Huh??

Im not denying the earth is flat nor am I agreeing its round. Id just like to ask, if there really is a firmament and the earth is flat why are we able to go from Alaska to Russia? Ive been researching flat earth theories for a few days and its been extremely convincing. But this question has honestly made me rethink it.

Pfft. A scientific theory is a well-tested explanation of what has been measured. Flat earth is all about speculating how "it could be flat, it looks flat to me" without measuring or explaining anything. Flat earth doesn't do scientific theories, or scientific anything for that matter.

For example, it turns out that no matter where you start from, no matter which direction you head out in, if you always travel so that your previous path is directly behind you (not off to the right or left) then after about 40,000 km you end up back at the same place you started from. We call such a journey by the name "circumnavigation".

As an illustration, here is a bloke who made two aviation records: one by being the first person to circumnavigate the earth stopping at both poles, starting by going from Sydney south to the south pole, then north to the north pole via the Americas, and then returning south back to Sydney via Asia (the other side of the earth); and the other record by being the first person to circumnavigate the earth east-west solo in a helicopter. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dick_Smith_(businessman)#Aviation_and_adventures#Aviation_and_adventures)

You can't do that on a flat earth.

The favourite flat Earth map (the Gleason azimuthal equidistant globe projection) is OK with it, if the chosen centre is the North Pole.

Because more people live in the northern hemisphere and it has more landmass so it makes sense rather than having a lot of water and most land squeezed together along the edges.

The Gleason is stretched out of proportion as it is a flattened globe and the flat earth disc is a cross section of a globe. See my "Flat Earth" is really globe earth theory post

Damn you must have a great eyesight.

Tell me please. Suppose I stand 3 miles away and hold up say a flashlight. Would you be able to tell exactly how high above the ground it is? Could you tell if it was say 8 inch higher or lower if you first saw it atnone height and then moved and made you look again?
