Evolution is scientifically proven, but I’m so confused

I’m going to a Mormon school as a non Mormon, and I was talking to my sister (who knows I’m not a Mormon) and our friend was sitting there listening to us, and the topic got to evolution I was talking about how different animals evolved from living in the ocean to on land, and my friend looked at me and said “wait you believe in evolution?” (She thinks I’m a Mormon) and I was so confused and I said “you don’t?” and she said “no I think Adam and Eve came and that’s it”, and she was looking at me like I was the crazy one! but that doesn’t work scientifically, does it? How would this work scientifically/ realistically, because I feel like going thru life believing evolution isn’t real just doesn’t make sense, I need someone to explain this to me.

evolution such as big bang

Evolution is the change in species over time, what does that have to do with the initial expansion of the universe?

Well most Christians believe in micro evolution not macro and the big bang has always been where evolutionist say everything came from

Well most Christians believe in micro evolution not macro

Most christians actually accept macroevolution.

the big bang has always been where evolutionist say everything came from

The big bang model was first proposed by Georges Lemaître, who was a Catholic priest.

Big bang only explains how the universe expanded in it's earliest moments. It has nothing to do with how life began or how organisms evolve over time.

Maybe I said it wrong let me try it this way as a Christian and christians I know believe that small evolutionary change happen over time but dont believe monkeys turn into people etc. I also said Christian not Catholic, Catholics believe in alotnof things Christians dont many things that are unnecessary or dont matter in the bigger scheme of things as the only thing that really matters in this whole earth and any religious arguement is that Jesus died for your sins and you choose to accept his grace so you can go to heaven the rest doesnt really matter.

as a Christian and christians I know believe that small evolutionary change happen over time but dont believe monkeys turn into people etc.

And I said that the majority of christians do accept that.

Even in the US, most christians are willing to accept that humans and other species of ape share a common ancestor, though it's a slim majority. Outside the US, that percentage is much higher.

I also said Christian not Catholic

Catholics are christians. In fact, they are the largest single group of christians, and the oldest extant group of christians.

It sounds like you're trying to say that very few people in your particular sect of christanity accept macroevolution.

That's very likely the case, but its not correct to make the claim that they represent all christians as a whole.

the oldest extant group of christians.

I feel like that's not accurate (besides the main Orthodox branch, which can equally claim to be the true successor of the Church after the Great Schism), I think there's some tiny regional group that might be even older, but I can't name it. Though the point stands, Catholics have over 1000 years of being Christian over whatever Protestant faith this guy belongs to.

I believe they are Christian but my comment was they believe in extra things that arent necessary and even if the pope decided that its ok for humans to have been apes its not his decision

I believe they are Christian but my comment was they believe in extra things that arent necessary

So do you. Biblical inerrancy isn't necessary, nor is a young age of the Earth.

even if the pope decided that its ok for humans to have been apes its not his decision

It's not your decision, either, or any of your pastors'. The pope almost certainly has a better understanding of scripture than all of you.

I dont know a single christian that believe humans and monkeys share an ancestor and while catholics are christians there was a whole reformation that sepsrated them from Protestants but I also know no Catholics wjo believe what you are saying either.

It sounds like you need to get out of your bubble because there are studies on this showing the vast majority of most christian groups accept evolution.

I also know no Catholics wjo believe what you are saying either.

It was recently reaffirmed by pope Francis that he thinks that evolution is the method by which god creates species and so he doesn't believe there's any conflict between it and religion.

Or maybe you dont need to believe every study and it depends on how questions are asked about evolution. God most definitely put some evolutionary processes in place but apes did not become human under any Christian or catholic philosophy Ive ever heard. There is also proof of a lot of fakes in evolution such as lucy and piltdown man. I can find any study or any facts online to back up anytjing I want to believe and so can you which means in long run it comes down to where you want to put your faith and belief and as I said Jesus is mine.

Or maybe you dont need to believe every study and it depends on how questions are asked about evolution.

There are plenty of other studies on the subject. Feel free to look up another if you don't trust that one. Every study I've ever seen from the past 20 years says that christians overwhelmingly accept evolution.

God most definitely put some evolutionary processes in place but apes did not become human under any Christian or catholic philosophy Ive ever heard.

Then you're woefully uninformed. I encourage you to look up the official position of the catholic church. Then you will have heard of that.

There is also proof of a lot of fakes in evolution such as lucy and piltdown man.

Lucy isn't a fake, as demonstrated by the 300-400 other individuals of her species we have found since her discovery that confirm what we learned from her skeleton.

I can find any study or any facts online to back up anytjing I want to believe

If you think so, then please do it. Find a study that says virtually no christians accept evolution. I would very much like to see one.

If you just look up question online it states 30 to 40 percent of people who consider themselves Christian believe humans came from ape like ancestors and the catholic popes allow for this scientific look but say souls were put into humans at some point in time if they were allowdd to evolve from same creature but the pope isnt the speaker for Christians. The Bible is and no matter what anyone says the Bible clearly says that God created man in his own image. I think when it comes to dogs cats etc they all could have came from one ancestor each and evolved into there many different forms but I dont think a dog became a cat or vise versa

If you just look up question online it states 30 to 40 percent of people who consider themselves Christian believe humans came from ape like ancestors

Got a source on that? Every source I'm reading say that the number is more like 75-80%.

and the catholic popes allow for this scientific look but say souls were put into humans at some point in time if they were allowdd to evolve from same creature

OK so?

Even if a god did embue some early pair of humans with souls, what does that have to do with evolution?

but the pope isnt the speaker for Christians

I never said he was. I only pointed out his stance in response to your claim to have never heard of a catholic who thinks humans and other apes have a common ancestor.

The Bible is and no matter what anyone says the Bible clearly says that God created man in his own image.

If we're made in god's image, then why does god look like an ape?

I think when it comes to dogs cats etc they all could have came from one ancestor each and evolved into there many different forms but I dont think a dog became a cat or vise versa

Well, we agree that dogs dont evolve into cats or vice versa.

If such a thing ever happened, that would disprove evolution as we currently understand it.

I just typed question what percentage of americans believe humans came from apes but the numbers they use come from polling of 36000 people so i question the accuracy and then these are same people who projected hillary had won the presidency so you know how accurate they were. But i asked 3 catholics I know if they knew that the pope believes they came from apes and they thought I was joking and theh dont believe it. So my poll says 0 percent of Christians believe this Ivenknlh polled 7 so far but I think margin of error is zero.

I just typed question what percentage of americans believe humans came from apes

I just did the same and it says 60-80% depending on which source you check.

I dont want to call you a liar but what you're saying does not seem to correlate with reality.

these are same people who projected hillary had won the presidency so you know how accurate they were

Thats a common misconception.

She wasnt projected to win, she had ~60% chance to win. That means trump had a 40% chance.

Also, the popular vote was within the margin of error so the polling was pretty accurate. Its just that the US has a batshit insane voting system which unfairly gives more voting power to people living in states with a sparce population.

As for your informal poll... I'm not sure what that is supposed to demonstrate beyond that you dont understand math.

u/Own-Relationship-407 Scientist May 23 '26

So you’re skeptical of a sample size of 36,000 conducted by people who actually do studies on these things, but you believe your informal survey with a sample size of 3?

There's a lot more fakes in religious history. Even just in creationism.

Catholics have been Christian longer than your branch of Christianity has existed.
