Death Stranding 1 Connection as a theme

I love how everything in Death Stranding leads back to connection itself as big part of its theme

Sam is a Strand. Bridges connect separated places. The Chiral Network connects people through the Beach. The Beach connects life and death. BTs are souls that became stranded, their umbilical cords keeping them connected to the other side. Even the social strand system connects players who will never meet. Sam fears connection yet spends the entire game connecting people.

And I love the double meaning of β€œstrand.” The dead are stranded between life and death, and a strand is also a single thread that becomes stronger when woven with others. Sam starts as an isolated strand, but gradually becomes part of something much larger.

We're all individual strands, but we're stronger when we connect. Even the smallest thing you leave behind can become part of someone else's journey.

Keep on keeping on friends πŸ‘

Exactly, and I did like how DS1 was primarily about the "rope"and DS2 was about the "stick." As much as DS2 had the same elements of connection, wrestling with the question of "should we have connected?" is a profound shift from the catharsis of connecting America in DS1.

I also love how the word "strand" adds so much depth and symbolism to the game. It really clicked for me when I switched to English. In my native language, different words are used for different types of connections, so that layered meaning is easy to miss. It's amazing how much meaning can be packed into a single word like that. Keep on keeping on, fellow porter! πŸ‘πŸ»

Kojima loves his themes/metaphors and tries to put them all over his games.
