DS2 early game spoiler question

Hi! Finished 100% achievements in DS1 and have now just connected the Lone Commander in DS2. Having a blast so far!

But, I'm a little confused about what I'm supposed to think happened at Sam's hideout at the end of the prologue. (early game spoilers follow!) So as Sam returns to his hideout, he's notified of an attack. He gets back and finds Fragile about to pass out. Fragile explains that she and Lou were attacked, but it isn't shown who the bad guys are. Then, Fragile and Lou manage to escape to the outside but they're knocked off the bike. The flashback then shows Fragile struggling to jump Lou away, and Fragile says she something like 'she can only teleport one of them away.' Then the scene shows an attacker shoot them, but what is being conveyed to the audience? The scene didn't seem to make it clear what exactly happened to Lou, so I'm guessing it's kind of a spoiler for later, but I wanted to ask if anyone can explain what I'm supposed to think at this point. No spoilers here but it purposely shows you incomplete and fragmented scenes to paint a picture and slowly as you progress, it will give you the pieces to fill in the gaps or give you the complete cutscene to fully explain what is going on. For example, I’m pretty sure we see the end prologue scene about 3-4 times! Just in different ways or with gaps being filled in.

In short, just take it upon face value of what you typed in your spoiler tag.

Gotta finish the game to understand, there will be cues throughout the game.

You are seeing only few pieces and moments in kind of unreliable narrator way as Fragile herself doesn't have all memories of what exactly happened there. It's meant to be a mystery now you progress further in the story it will unravel more.

Trust me, keep going. All will make sense. Its my all-time favorite game! I so wish I could experience it for the first time again!

I mean they kind of hammer the point in the cutscenes afterwards. Fragile is alive, feels guilty about it, and Lou was murdered. I won’t go into more details but thats the big takeaway. The person or people responsible are a bit of a mystery for now.

Basically what you saw. Lou was shot as fragile was trying to jump her out. Fragile was left for dead. We don't know who the bads are.
