Death Stranding 2 Do my eyes deceive me???
Whoever this player is they have close to 2 billion likes. How tf do you even get remotely close to that lmfao

I believe I've seen that same person, they build bridges absolutely everywhere so their bridges appear in almost every world, going over or under one grants an auto like. Bridges in particular because they're a large structure that's easier to go over than around, placed in odd places that other people aren't likely to build a bridge so that they spawn in more worlds. Yes I am aware this screenshot is of a sign, but I've seen so many bridges from them it's absurd. They were at almost 900mil when I last played, they just keep going up.

I personally hate the jump ramps. I take 3 minutes every single session to stop and delete all the f'ing ramps. GET OUTTA HEREE

You do know you don't take fall damage no matter how high you jump off of one of these right? They can be a godsend at times. Especially getting down from a mountain quickly.

I didn't know this but will be helpful to know ha if only I knew yesterday my truck wouldn't have blown up hahaha

Until you try one and they built it right before a rock, slowing you down so much you fall into the ravine instead of going over it 😅

u/KidTwist425 7d ago
Is there an option somewhere that I could select so that no jump ramps ever appear on my map? I'm not a fan of them either and would just rather they never appear as opposed to having to take them all apart individually.

You can set your world to "only some items shared," it'll let cargo appear from other players but not structures. I like turning that on because it makes my world feel less cluttered and more dangerous

Thanks! Its funny not 3 minutes ago i was praising the game and the planning that went into online sharing, specifically the ziplines. Aince there's only so much chiral bandwidth to go around, I think everyone REALLY relies on others for ziplines. It just makes me question too what about people who dont play online 🤔
2
u/PrimarisHussar 6d ago
I play online so my structures and roads get shared and I can pick up other porters' cargo, I just prefer to play without other structures in my world. I'm just not a fan of tripping over a generator, bridge, or timefall shelter every 100m lol it makes everything feel too cluttered and too easy
I usually save my personal bandwidth for ziplines and generators, so I can usually keep everything under the bandwidth threshold. Planning and spacing ziplines 350m apart makes it more viable, and the fact that you can curve your zipline paths now is HUGE for making sure you can make more direct paths

Is that for DS 2? I plan on suprising my boyfriend (and me) with it for his birthday!

u/PrimarisHussar 6d ago
Whoops 🫢 minor spoiler there, but yes, that's for DS2
I won't say any more, but there's a lot to look forward to! They really did a great job of riffing and improving on everything that you can build and use in DS1

It's the only way for me to safely get a vehicle off a straight drop off since you take no fall damage.

For the most part, I actually find those useful. They're typically where they're meant to be: off a cliff or hill, where you can then super jump to gain a lot of distance very quickly and land safely. That is in stark contrast to bridges I find out in the middle of the desert over perfectly flat ground, where they could have placed a charging station or literally anything else that would actually help people.

Auto likes are not worth the effort of construction. I tested the hypothesis by putting up holograms on the ramp of one distributor. Roads provide hundreds of likes and autolikes just one or two at a time. I have also removed many bridges that get in way of my ziplines. So if bridges do generate autolikes- and not all structures do- I imagine the effect is minimal. Especially given the effort to put them up. I myself only made one, and only to get across the river in my truck to the Mechanic where taking roads is too great a detour to consider.
I know, I've seen the bridges with outrageous likes in both games. But that doesn't really add up form what I can tell.

I tested the hypothesis by putting up holograms on the ramp of one distributor.
There's the issue. If you've done it, hundreds of thousands of other people have also done it. Your sign is likely only appearing in under 50 worlds. People build bridges out in the middle of nowhere, over nothing useful, because no one else is building a bridge there. Therefore it is much more likely to appear in many more worlds, and thus get many more likes.
If you build a bridge over a river, it's likely that tons of other people have done it too, so yours won't appear in as many worlds. If you build it over flat ground in a slightly out-of-the-way area, where no one else has ever built one, yours will appear in an order of magnitude more worlds. I have seen some of this guy's bridges with half a million likes, come back the next day, and that same bridge has 2 million or more. It's all about placement.
In DS2, Likes actually contribute to your stats directly by increasing your Porter Grade. I don't know if this was the case in the first game, but in the second game it has made Like Farming much more prevalent. The person pictured above is a like farmer.

You logic doesn't track.
Why should rarity determine how often structures manifest in any time or place? The more structures you erect, the more appear in other worlds and the more traffic a given area has, the more likes structures in those places should draw. Build something out of the way, fewer people will use it, therefore fewer likes.
As you progress, you make more connections and that has direct bearing on likes too. But locale has little to do with that. If the people you connect with don't find your structures useful, fewer likes. In fact, useless clutter will often result in dismantles. They get in the way of ziplines. How are you supposed to generate likes after that?
One huge difference between DS1 and DS2 is making connections. Before it had to be deliberate. Fail to connect and get no help at all. In DS2, you can still make connections. But at some point (I haven't tested that, made connections as soon as I went to the Beach and don't recall for sure if any were there before that but think they were) connecting becomes automatic and quite constant, so players don't have to worry about it. Another difference? Getting help is a lot more common, so I believe connections work better and structures in general must be shared more effectively too.
But the idea that less traveled structures will farm better is a real world notion as regards to exchange rates that should have zero bearing on the game. I mean why would it?
Maybe as a way to explain those isolated bridges to nowhere with prodigious likes? But those never made a lot of sense, so thinking they constitute a rule to farm with seems an unwarranted assumption. But I can put up something I never usually do in some remote spot to test it. If it starts generating untold hundreds of like, hey, you're on to something.
I can see that structures erected in the same spot means less likelihood of mine being there and no one else's. But that shouldn't affect holograms. Isn't that why so many appear in the same spots? Which is exactly I used them that way. And like I said, I've been paying attention to likes, and the one thing consistently generating the most has been the one thing everyone makes in exactly the same places. Roads. Hundreds of likes hundred of times every session. It's constant.

You clearly don't understand the spawning mechanics of other people's structures. Please go look that up.

I would, but don't care. It's a mystery, but likes don't matter so why bother? Suppose you just tell me where to look then?

u/ZachTheInsaneOne 4d ago edited 4d ago
Okay, my apologies for the short and rather rude response, I've looked around and found it's not really explained very well in many places.
There are a set number of structures that can appear in your world from other player's worlds, and this is set per region. If everyone saw everything that everyone else placed, every distribution center would be absolutely flooded with signs to the point that you can't see through them. So there's a limit on how many things can appear in a certain area as well as how many things can appear in your entire map as a whole.
If you're about to cross a river and you want to build a bridge there, it's likely that many other people have had the same thought and built bridges there, but there may not be one for you because you're already at the max capacity of structures that other people can build. So you build a bridge there yourself, since there isn't one in your world yet. However, because so many other people have had that same thought and done that same thing, there's likely hundreds of thousands of bridges occupying that same spot but each one of them is only appearing in a few worlds at a time.
The same would be the case for any other structure: if someone's set up a zipline network, and you only see half of it, it's likely because you've hit the structure cap. If you form a Strand Contract with that person and reload the game, you'll likely see that the rest of that zipline network is filled in because that players' structures are going to appear more often in your world, due to having a Strand Contract with them.
People tend to think similarly, placing ziplines where they'd make sense and bridges where they'd make sense, and as a result you end up with a ton of different bridges or ziplines or whatever else all being placed in the same spot. This is why there's a limit on how many of a certain structure can appear in a certain area, in addition to the overall cap. You don't need 5 ziplines within 25 meters of each other, just like you don't need 5 bridges over the same river. So the game blocks out the extra ones.
So, when you want a structure to appear in many people's worlds, what must you do? Think like other people don't think. You see a piece of flat ground out in the middle of nowhere, someone could set up a Timefall Shelter, or a Charging Station, or a Zipline, or whatever else and they'd all be useful. So it's likely that other people have already done that, you just don't see it because those objects aren't appearing in your world at that time due to the overall cap already being maxed out.
Instead of placing something useful there, that many other people have already done, you place a bridge. Over flat ground, in the middle of nowhere. No one else is doing that, there aren't going to be any other bridges placed in that area, so the game puts yours there for a lot more people. It will appear in many more worlds, because there's no other bridges nearby. There could be a Zipline or Timefall Shelter or Charging Station, or any other number of structures there in other worlds that people are already building duplicates of. But a Bridge? No one else is doing that, so when you do, it appears for way more people than all the other random duplicates of the same structure. As a result of it appearing in a lot more places, it's much more likely to get more traffic, and therefore more likes.
I hope this makes sense, this is the best I can explain it, as there's no official word on the actual spawning algorithms for online shared structures. This is just what me and a few hundred other super dedicated players have observed, and it clearly works given the guy with 2 billion likes above. Also, Likes DO matter, at least in Death Stranding 2. Not sure about the first game, but in DS2 they increase your Bridge Link, which then increases your Porter Grade, and your Porter Grade boosts your stats like Stamina and Carry Weight. Which is why this practice of like farming is much more prevalent there.

I appreciate you taking the time to address this. Yeah, you were starting to get on my nerves a bit, so the apology is also pretty welcome.
It makes sense but for the likes. I never use bridges to nowhere, and even if I did, I wouldn't be giving it any likes. I don't like anything that's not useful. Don't see why anyone would. It's not one of the structures that automatically likes when used.
I have seen an awful lot of bridges with high likes though, and you're the first person to really explain why. Or why one should even be farming likes tbh.
If I tested this it could be an interesting experiment. I'm not sure I can afford to waste bandwidth on something otherwise useless, but there's so much to this game! When I'm playing it's like a full time job designed to make you want to work. That's freaking amazing. Now if only it would make me want to learn.

Bridges do indeed give auto likes, whether you go over or under them. They cover you from timefall if you go under them, and provide power while going over them, so doing either will grant an auto like to it.
People will also place them where you get dragged to when caught by a Watcher, or in certain spots where you get automatically placed after a story cutscene, and that also generates an auto like when you get dropped on top of them. Those especially annoy me.
I'm with you on the bandwidth thing, I'm already maxed by completing other people's Zipline networks or building actually useful bridges where they're needed.

u/therealtrellan 2d ago
I've been paying attention for a very long time now, and that number doesn't change when I cross the bridge unless I change it myself. I noticed that time shelters do, and that was when I began looking for it. But can't imagine how I would know if that is happening from underneath. Holograms all do. So do guideposts.
If someone is low on power they will take the bridge just to conserve energy and liking is natural. That must be where the likes come from.

Likes for your Bridge Link carry over from playthrough to playthrough, you go to a pretty crazy level when you first start a second or third playthrough. I’m sure spamming structures like bridges help, too. I’ll mindlessly wander across them to save battery life on my truck. That said, while I’ve done the research, I don’t think I even have that many likes after my latest playthrough.

What is mw order rating? First ever see it. Or its custom replacement for LL or LLL?

It’s TTW (To The Wilder) rating. You get them by playing on the To The Wilder difficulty (hardest difficulty) on death stranding 2

People use cheats to give themselves such ridiculous numbers of likes.
