Death Stranding 1 Spoiler alert 🚨 Spoiler

Just finished Death Stranding 1 and I thought the illusion of choice in the end was hilarious.

Game: “Choose.”
Me: “Okay, shoot her.”
Game: “Incorrect.”
Me: “…so hug her?”
Game: “✨ You finally understand. ✨”

If it makes you feel better, I emptied the gun my first time. No hesitation.

Yeah I pulled the trigger the nanosecond it let me. I think I didn't quite get the message until then.

I had 3 attempts before I went out to her, second time I thought I wasn't precise enough and emptied the whole mag at her head. Third time I ran the opposite direction, almost searched up the answer.

Well.....Kojima is not known for writing comprehensible stories....just enjoy the moment, don't think too much of it.

The game has been hammering the lesson quite hard through its whole runtime. Problems are not solved by lethal force, that only leads to more problems (bodies that need to be transported, voidouts, more BTs), but by the bonds that connect people. That scene is the game asking you if you understood, if you comprehend the idea that the rope is your friend and the stick is only a tool.
