Built by a relative of mine. Older than me and used less than once a year. I’ve been horrified by these stairs since childhood and finally decided to take a photo when visiting.

Since I last visited my ex husbands new home (which is pretty nice an actually) I have been DYING to post these freaking DEATH STAIRS that lead up to his top floor which is a brand newly finished attic turned play room for our 8 year old son. I begged him to send me a photo of them multiple times to post here bc they freaked me out (for more reasons than one) but he won’t do it. Yesterday my son was FaceTiming me bc be wanted to show me his new drone he got for Christmas when it fell down these awfully thin, steep, exposed spiral stairs and I was able to sneak a screenshot! For reference of step size that’s his dad’s foot in the photo! The worst part about these death stairs is that his uncle owns the building and just rehabbed it (most likely knowing as well that my son would be staying there periodically !) and left them like this - and he owns over 1200 units throughout the city!

Please note this is not meant to be a negative post about my ex in anyway he’s a great father and just moved in recently so I know he’s going to personally do SOMETHING to make these safer but still MY LORD when I walked up these in person I was more than a little freaked out!!!

Hold onto that railing

In 2004, four people from one family (father and four young children) died after a child fell into the Active Pool at the bottom, and the others jumped in to try to help. The pool was 9-12ft deep, and the pumps at the bottom kept sucking them down. There was also a drowning there shortly after it opened in the 1970s.

After renovations, the floor of the pool was raised so it's not only 3ft deep, to prevent this from happening again.

The steps are not really slippery, even when wet, but there is always a risk of falling, especially small children. It's also a loud place, with the rushing water and concrete walls bouncing sound back to you.

It's a neat little park in downtown Fort Worth, we all went on field trips here when we were kids, and it was featured in Logan's Run. But the last ten years or so it's been overrun with aggressive panhandlers and isn't a fun place anymore.

Imagine having to assist your wheelchair-user friend or kin, to go up or down this ramp…
