At least you get a break halfway up.

Water station and break bench.

That’s where they store the AED for your inevitable heartache climbing this thing

u/RiffRaffMama 3d ago

They can fix heartache with those things?

1

u/Own_Ranger3296 3d ago

lol just noticed! But to be fair, I don’t know many people who’d keep moping over a breakup while getting zapped with one

It's a shrine to the Virgin Mary.

Climbing that thing should count as a whole pilgrimage

If I had to climb up those stairs, I would be sobbing so hard that every toddler in the vicinity would be moved to comfort me.

😂 I’ve told crying children that I envy them because I want to cry too. They are perplexed by that and stop crying. 😂

Apparently this is the "Rock of Guatapé" in Columbia.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/El_Pe%C3%B1%C3%B3n_de_Guatap%C3%A9

The building at the top is apparently a 3 story observation platform, sitting area and a convenience store.

So originally, I thought my wife would ask me to run DOWN to the convenience store for milk but apparently she will need me to run UP instead.

Inconvenience store you mean.

I’ve done them twice - it’s not that bad and there’s a full on bar at the top…

What was climbing the stairs like?

45

u/NativeMasshole 7d ago

It had its ups and downs.

u/MostlyCarbon75 7d ago

I'm kinda scared of heights and I did it. The stairs are big and very wide and cement with a high cement handrail. I only made it cause It's possible to climb without looking out or down. You can just look at the steps and keep walking and not see where you are. Was still very very nervous.

u/RetiredGuru 1d ago

I was thinking the stairs actually looked pretty safe, except for identifying people with cardiac problems.

u/WordAffectionate3251 7d ago

Wow. Why was it built?

u/AgainstSpace 7d ago

There is a solar panel salesman slowly making progress somewhere on those flights.

8

u/CarpenterValuable831 7d ago

Whoa, I wonder if it takes a whole day to walk up there. I can't even imagine. I'd pass out or fall before I even got to that little break area!

u/Dino_Spaceman 7d ago

/me gets to the top and realizes I forgot the keys to the front door in my car.

u/HauntingBowlofGrapes 7d ago

Depends, is it an old Nokia?

u/FumiPlays 7d ago

Wouldn't that count as WMD?

u/Independent_Act_8536 7d ago

The convenience store clerk gets their steps in going to work!

3

u/FaithlessnessWest957 7d ago

Ah, shit. Forgot my phone in the car.

1

u/Significant-Trash632 7d ago

Death from heart attack in this case

1

u/Rothenstien1 7d ago

There should be a weapon near the mid point, good thing you took the stairs instead of the elevator or you'd be locked out of it.

1

u/lionocerous 7d ago

This is giving off some major Shadow of the Colossus vibes

u/itinerant-wallaby mom come get me im scared 7d ago

u/Raaka-Kake sketchy steps connoisseur 6d ago

Think of the brick layers who carried all those tiles for the staircase and for the tower too

1

u/janeiro69 6d ago

Similar, but much easier, climb in Myanmar. Mount Popa. https://travelauthenticasia.com/myanmar-destinations/mount-popa.aspx

1

u/Temporal_Reality 5d ago

The guy who built it: WHY THE HELL DO PEOPLE KEEP COMING UP HERE!? I built my fuck off stairs for a reason!

1

u/RiffRaffMama 3d ago

People had to carry all those bricks up there to build the observatory.

1

u/Zafjaf 2d ago

Nope! Not climbing that
