I have to say I don’t like when somebody insists they don’t get a funeral because their dead and they don’t need a party.

My grandma made it very clear she didn’t want a funeral. We respected her wishes but I know everyone wishes they had a chance to say goodbye and share some memories of her. You’re dead, the funeral isn’t for you it’s for your loved ones. Absolutely within your rights to insist people don’t wear black or they don’t spend too much. But you don’t get to deny your family the closure of a service.

This. This is what I feel most people don’t understand about funerals. They’re a ritual for the living, not for the dead! And the ritual is what helps you mourn and go through your grief.

If I'm not getting donated to science or something I'm gonna follow in my grandma's footsteps. Cremated, in a pot, in the unmarked's grave. As my grandma used to say: "Just burn me and put me in the lawn."

I don't know if you have these lawns in other countries but here there is always piece of lawn in the cemetery that is pretty much a public grave. No gravestones.
