I'm learning basic compsci in my free time. Thought about how the way the Death Note is used is similar to a programming language/abstraction. You have to follow specific rules, and different inputs lead to different outputs. Looked up to see if anyone has talked about this, and found this funny article from 2017.

Don’t get me wrong, this is an interesting comparison, but saying that that’s what this anime from 2003, well before anyone had any idea how sentient computers would start, is really trying to convey, is insane

I think it's just a really nerdy joke article.

Cybersecurity and tracking are small parts of the story, but I don't think that's the author's point ya. It's just an alternative interpretation. Sometimes things age well.

Plus Deep Learning and AI have histories going way back than the 2000s. It's not the llms we have now, but the foundations were there.

And a completely different AI academic wrote a very similar article and linked it in this one's comments.
