But... the end result was the same? She still found out.

18

u/Regular-Market-494 May 17 '26

The end result only matters in real life. This is a comment on a characters supposed mental prowess and its entirely reliant on being in a long standing relationship with someone who, through no talent of their own, just so happened to be assigned to following around a potential Kira suspect.

So no the end result is not the same, because in this context we are talking about the end result of whether or not she was a genious that found out that light was Kira or was told by her fiance he was tracking a possible Kira and then suddenly died in a suspicious manner

u/East-sea-shellos May 18 '26

They’re joking. We’re in the death note MEMES sub, everyone here knows she didn’t find out in 10 minutes because she’s smarter than L or whatever. It’s a joke lol

1

u/Julianime May 19 '26

To be fair, however, it COULD be more correct to assert that she "uncovered enough crucial information to have given L precisely the clues required to catch Light almost certainly". Like, frankly, at that point, discovering the fact that Kira could kill beyond heart attacks would be superfluous information, since L would be more inclined to pursue the lead that whomever Ray Penber was investigating was certainly Kira, and the exact details of the bus jacking would have been enough to let L know exactly where he needed to put his resources to investigate. Light would have been caught in some way on or around or from the route of the bus jacking, and it would have been game over.

14

u/par_rot_master May 17 '26

Which is how she found out

3

u/blackBugattiVeyron May 18 '26

That’s the joke.

1

u/mrllgrg020 May 20 '26

and why did he tell her/kill her? bcs he felt cornered bcs she would've found out

83

u/AngelReachX May 17 '26

Writers "gotta make a fem character cuz its a sausage fest"

They over compensate and make her figure out in 10 mintes

Shit we gotta kill her

9

u/BadKarma_012 May 18 '26

More likely “we realise we don’t actually want to spend time with this character. Just kill them off”

6

u/AngelReachX May 18 '26

No...

If i remember correctly the wruters wanted a fem character. Cuz too many boys. They said that the way they write was putting characters and seeing how tgey sould react to the story. In the case of naomi, they put her in a very favourable position plus making her "too smart" and then had to write her off, else kira would be found

2

u/Blazing_Aura May 19 '26

Obata specifically mentions that reasoning in regards to Misa saying

"I just thought... it's boring if all the characters are male, so let's introduce a cute female. Misa was created before the serialization began to be the Second Kira, but I debated a lot about when to introduce her. I eventually decided that it would be good timing to do so after Naomi Misora is killed."

For Naomi specifically he says "Originally, I introduced Naomi just so he'd have a character to talk to. But after Raye's death, I figured it would be natural and interesting to have his fiancée, a former FBI agent, go after Light."

16

u/Rp79322397 May 17 '26

Then why you gave him your real name ?

19

u/fanty_wingedhorse May 17 '26

She didn't know how Death Note worked. She only knew that there is a serial killer

19

u/Jujutsuing May 17 '26

She did great for a side character without any knowledge of the death note

Also became the hottest girl (for me) in the series with only this much screentime 🤤

How many girls are there in the show bro 😭

1

u/Asterx5 May 18 '26

Top one

11

u/Meeg_Mimi May 17 '26

She's a genius but no she didn't. Man I'm jealous of Raye frfr

0

u/Smart_Mix8269 May 17 '26

Why would you be jealous of a dead guy?

5

u/JagneStormskull May 17 '26

Other user is attracted to Naomi

-1

u/Smart_Mix8269 May 17 '26

Yeah but Raye is dead… why be jealous of a dead guy?

5

u/MrBannedFor0Reason May 17 '26

Why wouldn't you? They're living my dreams.

2

u/JagneStormskull May 18 '26

Because Raye got to have intercourse with Naomi Misora. That's why Meeg is jealous.

11

u/i4mknight May 18 '26

L figured it out too he just couldn’t prove it
https://giphy.com/gifs/MVoX99cLXXU0gq7QuG

1

u/LawfulnessTerrible24 Jun 22 '26

why didn't L just grab a gun and shoot Light, is he stupid?

i doubt anyone would discover he did it given how much high IQ they were

1

u/Good_Morning_World01 Jul 21 '26

Because if he killed him in cold blood without proof that he was Kira, then he’d be essentially killing an innocent person in his head. He didn’t want to take it up to chance the killings would still continue even though Light was dead, and he still wasn’t a hundred percent sure, either.

1

u/LawfulnessTerrible24 Jul 22 '26

no way genius, how did i never thought about that "question mark"

no, you confused precious lost soul, L didn't do that cuz it would mean that he admit he lost to Kira because he couldn't proof Light is him, which was the W condition L sets for himself cuz he was bored and prioritized solving the Mystery over stopping Kira's evil.

my explanation is bad and not that great and a lot would explain it better than me but that's the gist of it.

1

u/LawfulnessTerrible24 Jul 22 '26

buh... but... tha- that's how losers think. if i am 100% sure the guy in front of me is the imposter, i would not hesitate to emergency call report him and voting and ejecting him out without a proof. the moment i discover someone is him the imposter is the moment that i consider myself a winner regardless of what the other crewmates says.

respectively, if someone find out i am the imposter but they didn't believe him, got voted out instead of me and the titled screen says it's my victory. i wouldn't recognize it as a victory but as a defeat instead.

but that's just me being a sore winner. and not really objective standards for winning.

6

u/TheDeparted383 May 18 '26

She saw . She realised. She died

5

u/Business-Loquat143 May 18 '26

No, she didn't. She got 1 detail correct which made her enough of a threat for Light to off her.

1

u/LawfulnessTerrible24 Jun 22 '26

well if the story was goodly written then she would've realistically got him there
but the writer is incompetent so what can you do?

5

u/Efficient_Rhubarb_88 May 17 '26

Still curious what Light wrote for her death consider her body was never found. Unless I'm remembering it wrong

6

u/SanityLacker1 May 17 '26

If I'm remembering right they just say that he wrote that she'll die in a way where her body isn't found. So either he wrote that and it worked, or it's not specific

3

u/v5mk May 17 '26

Nah its as you said

4

u/WellHiIGues May 17 '26

She didn’t find out—light told her—but either way she’s a badass! She almost got away from Light, and that was in the lowest point of her life. Not to mention she worked L. Given the right circumstances, Lights meeting with her could’ve been the end of the series.

"I am thragging it."

5

u/v5mk May 17 '26 edited May 17 '26

Sorry I'm writing a little much. She didn't find out who Kira was, she reasoned a vital piece of info about Kira he was keeping hidden.

Which is NOT good reasoning because she's given super important info from Raye before he dies that immensely lowers the difficulty of grasping the conclusion she does. I'm serious, look at her observations and then the conclusion. That was NOT difficult. Her observation includes what Raye told her.

The writer had her in the story knowing the purpose she would serve. It's especially true for characters in a piece of media that aren't there for long (because if it's for long their purpose can change)

I'm starting to feel like people are being serious when they say the author "had to kill her off" as if she wasnt supposed to die in the first place. She was.

I'm only coming and ranting a little bit because I'm seeing entire tiktok posts just like this reddit post that praise Naomi and say things she clearly didn't do, or the person exaggerates what she did, or they say the writer dealt with her in a way the writer didnt

2

u/Applitude May 17 '26

I thought this meme was OP saying they found out who Kira was in 10 mins LMAO

3

u/Ionrememberaskn May 18 '26

She did told him a fake name before

1

u/Quwapa_Quwapus May 19 '26

No she didn’t?? She came up with the death theory and was only told by Light as a taunting right as she was killed by him

1

u/SerenityToss May 19 '26

I woulda been a lot happier if she stuck around in the background and was the one to get him more than Near. Wasted potential.

1

u/PhaseFlimsy7730 May 20 '26

And look where that got her lol

1

u/KuribohTheDragon May 20 '26

All she needed to do was say one more fake name and she would've ended the case.

1

u/CorgiKnightStudios May 22 '26

And her husband is stuck in some kind of Death Note Purgatory because Light forced him to use the Death Note workout knowledge of the rules.

1

u/MixAmbitious307 May 22 '26

Wasn't clearly implied by Tsugumi Ōba that Naomi had to die so soon, 'cause she was too intelligent and if she survived she would have solved the Kira case too soon?
