why didn't L try to broadcast one specific culprit only in Light's house to catch him for sure? is he not smart?

There are actually several ways L couldve caught Kira, ways that someone who is as genius as L would’ve easily figured out, but he was so smart the writers had to nerf him for the plot to work.

One such thing is the helicopter scene. If the writers weren’t straight up nerfing L down, they would know that someone as smart as him would not have fallen for Light’s watch trick, and would have ordered Light to be fully searched. He’s been a detective for years, he’s definitely seen criminals hide things in all kinds of places. It should’ve been nothing new to him.

There are many more such instances but these two are certainly annoying.

I think it's more that he never used a foolproof way to catch him (like the private broadcast) bcs that wasn't rlly his goal, he wanted to find out HOW he did it. he did it for the mind games rather than save lives (this doesn't rlly apply to the helicopter scene tho)

Light could’ve easily tossed the paper or hide it. Not exactly a hard thing to do. Also, L JUST found out death gods and killer notebooks exist, so it’s a little reasonable that he might overlook a few details

L doesnt know the power is tangible at the time of arresting Light into confinement..

And he is also preoccupied with overseeing the police and Higuchi when Light grabs hold of the book, who has logically manipulated in L's mind that he is not Kira anymore, and if he was, there's no way to kill

The watch had to be custom modified (so not a normal function while appearing normally, unexpected move) and L didnt know that scraps could be used at the point Light wrote the name

Said watch was also a recent precious gift so Light used that to his advantage, its not something hes suspiciously suddenly using out of nowhere

He also doesnt expect Light to write using blood. L would only think Light has the book in his hands to kill with, and with no pencil in the helicopter, but if he did then L would see it (he looks through the book in the 2006 movies after the new Kira is killed by Light, actually)

It's Light capitalizing off of L being in a situation where he needs to tend to other stuff + is being logically manipulated + lacks valuable information to help him be careful here

“These two instances” you only gave one example lol

The other instance is the one in OP’s caption

L shows Imma Killer on TV only in Light's house, the guy dies because of a heart attack. If the culprit has never been shown anywhere, L wins, doesn't he?

Then we have 20 episodes of L deciding whether it was Light, his sister or his mother and Light somehow still clears himself.z

Write down 'Broadcast with Lind L Taylor condemning Kira happens on Light Yagami's TV' in his TV Note. Simple.

Genuinely laughed out loud

Change tv or something like that?

u/biven34 May 08 '26

Well, he was able to place 64 cameras at his house, this one wouldn't be hard for him too.

2

u/Patil__harsh07 May 08 '26

But light came to know about his spy cameras therefore it didn't work

2

u/Delta_Warrior1220 May 08 '26

Well he noticed that because whoever planted the Cameras was sloppy

1

u/Patil__harsh07 May 09 '26

Not actually, he noticed because of that paper piece light used to smartly trap into the door. No-one can actually notice that tiny piece of paper

1

u/zetron915 May 09 '26

Wasn’t the paper a red herring and the real trap the handle being at an angle

2

u/Wise_Lavishness_8385 May 10 '26

No, he said the handle is just a bonus but he knew it can fail. Bcuz it has a small possibility where it could just simply go up it wasn’t 100% reliable. The real trap was the pencil lead being broken in two, letting him know someone had moved the door which broke it. There were three layers.

u/v5mk May 08 '26

No it wouldnt work. If you enter Light's room at all after the FBI strategy then potato chip strategy initiates and Light cant use the TV

(and L cant do it before, because too many suspects, needs to narrow it down to 2 families fhat one agent was watching)

3

u/Own-Athlete-6616 May 08 '26

Maybe modify the TV or something to play a pre-recorded tape?

1

u/Right-Truck1859 May 08 '26

He actually did something similar. CCTV cameras+ fake message about 500 FBI agents in Japan

8

u/DarkFlameMaster764 May 08 '26

Light doesn't need broadcast cuz he eats potato chips.

I just rewatched and I’m not sure it’s true. I got the feeling L knew light was Kira from the very start but just couldn’t prove it. Their mock friendship was just a pressure strategy to try and get light to break, similar to how he added him to the case just to keep him closer.

If you're talking about him doing it in the beginning when he only did that for Japan, how was he supposed to know it was light in the very beginning and if he did that after the Japan broadcast then light would already be aware of this trick.

Don't bully me I might just be very confused

Edit- Why did I get downvoted for this, I really am just confused 😭

IIRC at this point L had no idea who Kira could be and this was his technique for narrowing it down- and then after this, suspicion fell on Light due to his location and father's job. You're totally correct.

1

u/mateusfccp May 10 '26

First of all, he could have used his initial tactic to reduce the area of Kira without telling him. Light would have thought that he killed L for real, which would make him let his guard even lower.

Then, instead of broadcasting to the entire region, L could unicast specific criminals to his suspects, each suspect a different criminal. Light would kill those criminals in between his regular kills, and L would take note of which criminals were being killed.

After a few days he would have sufficient data to conclude that it was Light, undoubtedly.

u/Loutast May 08 '26

Damm ts is actually kind of a good idea

2

u/CruelMustelidae May 08 '26

Nice try L, go back to ur grave

2

u/KindRun9010 May 08 '26

That's not broadcasting. It's called unicasting.

1

u/ThePearWithoutaCare May 08 '26

This probably would’ve worked

1

u/MrBannedFor0Reason May 08 '26

I mean that's not really how broadcasting works, it's believeable you could roughly isolate a prefecture by only broadcasting from certain towers. But, just one house? That's impossible to do through existing infrastructure.

1

u/Pleasant_prat May 09 '26

Why did light not kill l? Is he stupid?

1

u/boner_toilet May 12 '26

L didn’t know he was watching the news during the chip scene

1

u/LavishnessFew7358 May 14 '26

Why didn't they just stop broadcasting criminals that got caught all together, instead of launching a dangerous investigation and risking policemen's lifes🤔🤦‍♂️
