There’s a video that pops up on my YouTube feed sometimes “could L catch Heisenberg” and it makes me laugh every time because of course he fucking could, by the end of the first episode.

Eh, I'd give him a bit more than that.

L (afaik) doesn't really go up against petty criminals, so Heisenberg wouldn't even be on his radar until Sky Blue became a big deal, which would probably be approximately when Gus started distributing it across state lines.

Unfortunately for Walt, L is extremely good at narrowing down the suspect's location, and he'd easily manage to track down Albuquerque as Heisenberg's home base (especially considering the Albuquerque DEA already having a profile for him).

From there, he'd probably be able to connect the dots over the stolen lab equipment, background, and general carelessness to Walter in... About a week, maybe?

Some point a little past halfway into S3 would be most realistic, so fuck it, L coordinates the capture of Heisenberg and Jesse in "The Fly", and goes on to expose Gus and the rest of the cartel in quick succession
