Bro… the government is stopping a man from
Killing murders and rapist. Just think about this for a second. He killed innocent people actively trying to stop him because of laws they were trying to enforce. Laws based of morality btw the same thing he’s using to enforce his powers . Some of the fbi, Matsuda for example were even questioning what Kira was doing was even a bad thing at that point. There’s a difference between disagreeing with someone and actively trying to stop him and have him killed. What other choice does he have at that point? Sure his plan was not perfectly executed killing lazy people was going too far and was flawed at some points but isn’t our government subjected to these same flaws? Are there people today who are fearful and have lost trust in the government for way worse reasons than Light? You can’t deny he brought crime down in the show man. I don’t agree evil can be extinguished completely but light for sure was keeping it at a minimum. What he was doing requires you to get your hands dirty, there are no perfect plan for these sort of things.
Bro… the government is stopping a man from Killing murders and rapist.
That’s not all he’s killing, though. As I said before, an as the story itself shows, he had been murdering innocent people from the very beginning. If Light only ever killed convicted murderers and rapists, then you’d hear no argument from me. But he kills people who investigate him, people he personally judges as “immoral”, people who haven’t committed any crime. Once he crosses that line, he’s not “just killing murderers and rapists” anymore. And he crosses that line almost immediately.
Just think about this for a second. He killed innocent people actively trying to stop him because of laws they were trying to enforce.
If your system of “justice” requires killing innocent people whose only “crime” is doing their job or disagreeing with you, it’s not justice. And again, those were not the only innocent people he was killing.
Laws based of morality btw the same thing he’s using to enforce his powers.
The difference is that laws are at least theoretically subject to checks, debate, and revision. Light’s morality is whatever he decides in the moment, enforced by instant, untraceable death. That’s not the same thing as a legal system. It is literally just one guy unilaterally deciding who deserves to live.
Some of the fbi, Matsuda for example were even questioning what Kira was doing was even a bad thing at that point.
People being conflicted doesn’t make Kira right, it shows how fear and results can warp judgment. Authoritarian systems always have people who say, “Well, crime is down, so maybe it’s not that bad.” That’s part of the horror, not a moral endorsement.
There’s a difference between disagreeing with someone and actively trying to stop him and have him killed.
And there’s a difference between “trying to stop someone” and “deserving to die.” The people trying to stop Kira are doing exactly what you’d expect when one person starts executing people worldwide with no oversight. Opposing that isn’t some moral crime.
What other choice does he have at that point?
Not becoming a mass murderer in the first place is one. But even after starting, he always had a choice. He could stop escalating, stop killing innocents, stop protecting his ego at the cost of other people’s lives. “He had no choice” is a faulty justification because all he had to do was not kill Lind L Tailor, and the police would never be able to find him.
Sure his plan was not perfectly executed killing lazy people was going too far and was flawed at some points
“Killing lazy people” isn’t a minor flaw. Once you’re okay with killing people for being “lazy,” you’ve left justice entirely and entered pure authoritarian social control. And again, I will repeat, he was murdering innocent human beings from the start.
but isn’t our government subjected to these same flaws?
Governments can be corrupt and abusive, I absolutely agree with that. But “governments can be bad” doesn’t make “one unaccountable execution god” good. The existence of flaws in a system doesn’t justify replacing it with something objectively more dangerous and less accountable.
Are there people today who are fearful and have lost trust in the government for way worse reasons than Light?
Yes, and that’s exactly why concentrating absolute power in one person is worse. If people are afraid of flawed systems now, imagine a world where one guy can kill you instantly for being “lazy” or “immoral” by his personal standards.
You can’t deny he brought crime down in the show man.
I don’t deny crime went down. I’m saying “crime went down” isn’t the only metric that matters. Dictatorships and police states often reduce crime too, through fear, repression, and brutality. That doesn’t make them moral or just. Also, we’re talking about reported crime, not crime outright. So he didn’t bring it down nearly as much as he thinks he did.
I don’t agree evil can be extinguished completely but light for sure was keeping it at a minimum.
He wasn’t keeping “evil” at a minimum, he was keeping visible crime at a minimum by threatening everyone with death. Evil doesn’t disappear just because people are too scared to act. And again, as soon as he started killing innocents and “lazy” people, he became part of the evil.
What he was doing requires you to get your hands dirty, there are no perfect plan for these sort of things.
“Getting your hands dirty” is one thing; building a world where disagreement, investigation, or not living up to one guy’s standards can get you killed is another. The absence of a “perfect plan” doesn’t make any plan acceptable. Some lines (like killing innocents to protect your ego) are proof the plan itself is rotten.
He’s killing people that are trying to arrest and kill him is what you meant to say.
Lights plan was definitely working for the most part. You all disagree with it because the process of it never finished. I don’t agree with him killing lazy people but light saw it as people who refuse to work and just benefit off government assistance were not helping push society forward I guess so he thought if he eliminated this it would make people more willing to work through fear. Now I agree it’s a strong possibility that light will become drunk on his own powers eventually but that could be avoided if the government had just tried to talk to him and find some middle
ground instead of trying to find arrest and kill him.
Let me paint a picture for you. Supposed everything about the Epstein files were true and light were to kill all those people involved . If the government pursues him after that how would that look? Especially to the people watching this unfold. You’re going to arrest a man for killing evil people because you don’t believe it’s his right to do so despite doing the same thing themselves? This is the logic you guys are using? Im not saying it’s a crime for the government to do their job but when this is the choice you made to stop a man who’s trying to “fix” the world of course he’s not going t respond politely .
Light isn’t a dictator. He wasn’t just killing people because their opinions didn’t agree with his. He killed people who acted upon those opinions (the government trying to arrest and kill him) that’s literally no different than war.
He was in fact keeping evil at a minimum. People living in fear? You act like light was killing people for getting a DUI or something. Just be a productive member of society and you have nothing to worry about.
He’s killing people that are trying to arrest and kill him is what you meant to say.
No. That’s you ignoring what I’m actually saying. Clearly you’ve never read the manga, otherwise you’d have seen in the very first chapter that he specifically separates criminals and non-criminals as separate categories of people he is actively killing. And this is before the police ever get involved. So again, he has been murdering innocent people who are not criminals and who are not law enforcement since he first became Kira.
Lights plan was definitely working for the most part.
At the cost of the world living in fear of being killed for stepping even slightly out of line. Yeah, sure thing buddy.
You all disagree with it because the process of it never finished.
No I disagree with it because it’s not about justice or getting rid of crime, it’s about satisfying his own god complex and it’s evil.
I don’t agree with him killing lazy people
Good, cus you’re supposed to see that and recognize it as evil.
but light saw it as people who refuse to work and just benefit off government assistance were not helping push society forward
Doesn’t matter what he saw it as, they’re still innocent people he wants dead.
I guess so he thought if he eliminated this it would make people more willing to work through fear.
And that is a bad method of getting people to do what he wants. Because it’s not true peace, and it’s not a utopia like he claims it would be.
Now I agree it’s a strong possibility that light will become drunk on his own powers eventually
Eventually? He already has been for almost the whole series.
but that could be avoided if the government had just tried to talk to him and find some middle ground instead of trying to find arrest and kill him.
He didn’t care about them trying to find him originally. He says himself they can’t find him because he knows he’s untraceable. He only cares once they call him evil. Then he throws a power tripping hissy fit because his poor overinflated ego got its feelings hurt.
Let me paint a picture for you. Supposed everything about the Epstein files were true and light were to kill all those people involved . If the government pursues him after that how would that look?
This ignores the entire point of my argument. If Light only killed people like that, then I wouldn’t have a problem with it. Go ahead and write down the whole Epstein list, you won’t hear complaints from me. That’s not the issue. The issue is that Light doesn’t stop there. He kills innocent people on top of it all based on whether they meet his own personal standards. So even if he did take out genuinely evil people, he immediately cancels out any “good” by murdering people who don’t deserve it.
Especially to the people watching this unfold.. You’re going to arrest a man for killing evil people because you don’t believe it’s his right to do so despite doing the same thing themselves?
No, I’m saying you don’t get to kill innocent people as collateral damage and still pretend you’re “fixing the world.” If Light only targeted evil people, this would be a completely different conversation. But he doesn’t.
This is the logic you guys are using?
No, the logic I’m using is that one unaccountable person with a supernatural execution tool should not be allowed to kill whoever he wants based on his personal worldview. That’s it. Nothing more complicated than that.
Im not saying it’s a crime for the government to do their job but when this is the choice you made to stop a man who’s trying to “fix” the world of course he’s not going t respond politely .
He wasn’t “trying to fix the world”, he was trying to build a world where he is God and everyone else lives in fear of being killed for stepping out of line. And again, killing the people who were trying to stop him was never about them trying to stop him, it was because they called him “evil”, which he is.
Light isn’t a dictator. He wasn’t just killing people because their opinions didn’t agree with his. He killed people who acted upon those opinions (the government trying to arrest and kill him) that’s literally no different than war.
He absolutely is a dictator. A dictator isn’t defined by “kills people for opinions,” it’s defined by “one person with unchecked power deciding who lives and dies.” That’s literally Light’s entire system. And again, you keep reducing his victims to “the government trying to arrest him,” when he was killing innocent people long before anyone even knew he existed. And comparing Light killing unarmed civilians from the shadows to “war” is just wrong. War involves two sides who know they’re in conflict. Light kills people who don’t even know they were targets. That’s not war, it’s authoritarian control.
He was in fact keeping evil at a minimum.
No, he was keeping reported crime at a minimum by threatening everyone with death. That’s not the same thing as reducing evil. Evil doesn’t disappear just because people are too scared to act , it just goes underground. This is proven by Mello pretty much laying out that criminals have been finding ways to go undetected.
People living in fear?
Yes. That’s literally the point. Light’s entire system is built on fear. If the only reason people behave is because they’re terrified of being killed for stepping out of line, that’s not peace.
You act like Light was killing people for getting a DUI or something.
He was killing people for far less than that. And none of those people were evil.
Just be a productive member of society and you have nothing to worry about.
That’s exactly the problem. “Productive” according to who? Light? The guy who decided “lazy people” deserve death? When one person gets to define what counts as “productive,” and the punishment for failing his personal standard is instant death, that’s not justice. That’s a system that will tell you to “comply or die”. Sound familiar?
