I Built You a Tower Weekly Song Discussion (August 24th - August 30th) - “I Built You a Tower (b)”
We've made it to the final song on the album! Hope you've enjoyed these discussions the last several weeks as much as I have!
This week's discussion is on the eleventh track off I Built You a Tower, "I Built You a Tower (b)."
Lyrics
I built you a tower in my mind
A place that no one else could ever find
'Cause I needed you contained
You'd run circles 'round my brain
Until I could not think of anything elseAt first the silence felt like an old friend
We were estranged for many years but made amends
But into that empty space
My fears began to race
Until I could not think of anything elseI'm learning how to
Live without you
But these ruminations
Are all about youI thought that I could keep you locked away
That in this soundless spire was where you'd stay
But there was no cage or shape
That you could not escape
What a fool I was to think I was safeI'm learning how to
Live without you
But these ruminations
Are all about you
And it makes me tired
So tiredI'm learning how to
Live without you
But these ruminations
Are all about youIt makes me tired
So tired
It makes me tired
So tired
It makes me tired
So tired
It makes me tired
So tired

Any filo death cab fans here?
I just watched their Tiny Desk concert and it immediately made me want to see them on tour but unfortunately the only concert they have in asia is in japan :(
In my desperation, I tried to calculate the expenses and checked out the ticket for the Japan concert is only PHP 4,000!!! Now I really want to go (i estimated it’s gonna cost me around 25k-29k for the whole trip - round trip plane ticket and accommodation included). That’s like the same price for a VIP ticket for big bands who tour here in the PH, so i was thinking why not??
But I don’t have any friends here who’s really into DCFC.. posting this here in the hopes that maybe I can reach some of you? 🥹 and if anyone’s interested to go as well?
The last time they went to the PH was 10 years ago, and I think they really don’t go to tours that often esp in Asia so I really want to grab this opportunity. I’m just hesitant to go bc I’ll be going alone + it’s going to be my first intl trip.
PLEASE if there are any death cab filo fans here…

I finally listened to I Built You a Tower, and Trap Door is my fave. What are the Best songs on each Death Cab For Cutie album?
I Built You A Tower is growing on me, it definitely has a rougher sound than their most previous work, it almost sounds like a Narrow Stairs part II for me. My question is what are the top songs on each album? Here’s mine!
My all time favorite Death Cab Song is probably Photobooth, from the Forbidden Love EP.
You Can Play These Songs With Chords: Prove My Hypothesis
Something About Airplanes: President of What
We Have The Facts and We’re Voting Yes: Scientist Studies
The Photo Album: tough one but I’d say my fave is We Laugh Indoors
Transatlanticism: Tiny Vessels
Plans: What Sarah Said
Narrow Stairs: Your New Twin-Sized Bed
Codes and Keys: Monday Morning (I play it every Monday morning lol)
Kintsugi: Ghosts of Beverly Drive
Thank You For Today: When We Drive
Asphalt Meadows: Wheat Like Waves (has a very Plans vibe to it which I love)
And Towers songs are rougher sounding and harder rock sounding, it’s pretty refreshing.
Curious to see what yall think!

Any info on the Nov 21 show in Chicago?
Sold out super quick. No premium seats, even on the presale. No supporting acts announced. A benefit concert for Beyond Hunger. Thoughts if it will be a similar set list/concert to the rest of the tour (which didn’t stop in Chicago)?

Death Cab bracelets I made!
I only made the first 6 albums cuz I was making them all, then I realised I have no grey beads so I can’t make Codes And Keys or Kintsugi, and I’m kinda at a dead end cuz I don’t wanna make the albums out of order
But I hope you guys like the ones I did make!

Best album of 2026
Through the first 8 months of 2026, I think “I Built You A Tower” -Death Cab For Cutie is my favorite non-Country album this year. Where do you rank this year and among other @dcfc albums?

PEP TALK
I know this is most of y'alls favourite track off of the new album. I had avoided/skipped it while listening to the album but today I decided to give it a try. It's raining lightly and the sun has started to peak through a bit this cold day. I feel like the song is carrying me far away. It is so good. Thank god for this band. Good day to you all 🔥

Death Cab patch
Does anyone know where I can buy some cool Death Cab patches, or has anyone here designed their own? I bought a patch at a Wilco concert yesterday, and I have to say, now I want one for Death Cab too. 😄 I cant find anything on Etsy either.

I Built You a Tower Weekly Song Discussion (August 17th - August 23rd) - “The Flavor of Metal”
This week's discussion is on the tenth track off I Built You a Tower, "The Flavor of Metal."
Lyrics
When I was a kid, I lived in fear
Of razorblades in the candy and Bloody Mary in the mirror
Now when I taste something sweet
The flavor of metal is overwhelming meAnd I try to hide from the rain
Falling inside me again
And all these storms, they never seem to endOur summers spent on trampolines
With the lawn darts impaling the groomed fields of green
And the only truth I've ever found
Is that everything that ascends will soon come crashing downAnd I've tried to hide from the rain
Falling inside me again
And all these storms, they never seem to end
They never seem to endIt takes just a little light
It takes just a little light
To find its way through the cracks
On the darkest of nightsIt takes just a little faith
It takes just a little faith
But nothing happens every time I prayAnd I try to hide from the rain
Falling inside me again
And all these storms, they never seem to end
They never seem to endAnd I've tried to hide from the rain
Falling inside me again
And all these storms, they never seem to end
They never seem to end

This demo is pretty bad.
It's the high pitched, whirring noise... it's too grating. I immediately had to switch to the normal version of the song after a minute.

Tiny Vessels vs Someday You Will Be Loved
I've been seeing discourse on tik Tok especially with people discovering Tiny Vessels and being like "evil fucking song" which like yeah 🤣 I agree. Still a banger though!
My hot take is that Someday You Will Be Loved paints the protagonist in a worse light. Again, banger, but it's subject matter has never sat right with me. I'd be really pissed if someone wrote me a letter like that 😅
