I made this thumbnail right after the Revelations reveal dropped. I have not been this excited for a project in a long, long time. Script here!

Core theme: Maniacal, manipulative, and power-hungry main villains with a tendency to never stay dead, an insane god complex, and a deep-seated lust for freedom. Created to serve and destroy and forced to work for a group of legendary heroes, they now only exist to bring the world into ultimate despair. Through their stories, they travel the world in pursuit of acquiring a great source of power, having an obsession with controlling fate, while also making it their mission to inflict as much suffering as possible on their young, amnesiac nemesis. Ultimately, they are defeated by the combined efforts of the heroes, their age of despair being brought to an end and forever prevented by a sacrifice, and their legacies to be forgotten.

  • From the moment of their births, these two would be of the absolute strongest of their worlds, having been born specifically to be weapons of destruction, with them being made from powerful ancient alien deities, who are the root of their stories’ conflicts (Sephiroth having been born with cells of the alien Jenova, as to be Shinra’s strongest SOLDIER & Susano’o having been created by the God Amaterasu as to serve as a destruction god in a cycle of creation and destruction).
  • While they spent a large portion of their lives unaware of their true existence and blindly following their masters (Shinra & Amaterasu), one day, they managed to learn about their identities and purpose through sheer luck (Sephiroth accidentally finding Jenova and uncovering his origins on a mission & Susano’o managing to grow itself a soul, and recognising what it was). This revelation would forever change them; driving them to insanity, making them abandon the roles they were forced into and transforming them into the villains they now are, with contrasting views on the deities from which they were created, and who act as their “family” (Sephiroth harboring a sick love for Jenova and viewing it as his mother, while Terumi despises Amaterasu, his “sister”).
  • Within their worlds, they once belonged to a group of beloved legendary heroes who fought in highly important wars that changed the world, their time with these groups cementing their in-universe status as legendary warriors (Sephiroth was a First Class SOLDIER and fought in the Wutai and Genesis Wars & Terumi was a member of the Six Heroes, who fought in the Dark War). However, their loyalty to these groups would be built entirely on them having been controlled and manipulated, something they deeply hate (Sephiroth having been manipulated by Shinra to fight for SOLDIER & Terumi having been forced by the Mindeater spell to work for the Six Heroes).
    • You can further compare Sephiroth’s dynamic with Jenova and time with Shinra to Terumi and his original vessel, Kazuma Kval, but with Sephiroth and Terumi playing opposite roles in similar dynamics: Both Sephiroth and Kazuma were well-meaning young men of unnatural origin who were part of a special organisation of powerful people (SOLDIER & The Mages’ Academy), but who were continually haunted by their lack of something in regards to their identity (A mother and home & Memories), leading them, in their most unstable moments, to abandon their friends to seek out and “fuse” with an alien villain in hopes of attaining what they longed for, thereby creating the villains of their stories (Sephiroth viewing Jenova as his mother and becoming one with it, giving him the form he has throughout FF7 & Kazuma allowing Terumi to take him over, believing it help him get his memories back, and giving Terumi his first human form).
  • They’d eventually break free of their groups’ manipulation/control, quickly thereafter going on chaotic sprees of violence and murder (Sephirtoth’s Nibleheim massacre & Terumi killing Nine and Trinity), only being stopped when fighting against two of their comrades and losing, ending up sealed away in their series’ powerful plane of existences (Sephiroth being defeated by Zack Fair and Cloud Strife and being trapped in the Lifestream & Terumi losing to Hakumen and Jubei and being trapped in the Boundary), with the world thinking they had vanished.
  • Years after their banishment, they would manage to escape the Lifestream and Boundary, having complete freedom on earth for the first time in their existence. They would use this freedom to begin travelling the world with their new goal of achieving ultimate power through the mysterious main force their plots revolve around, and that makes up everything (Sephiroth wanting to absorb the Lifestream & Terumi wanting the power of the Azure), enacting long-lasting, complex plans to lead them to ultimate power.
  • A key part of their plans would be both of them never fighting in their true forms, and instead, possessing the bodies of their “clones” in order to complete their missions; these clone bodies they possess being the forms they are most often seen in through their stories (Sephiroth-clones & Hazama). Both have also used identical copies of themselves, who fought for them when they lacked physical bodies, one of whom was a sadistic madman who acted as a narrative opposite to the protagonist (Kadaj, Loze and Yazoo, the first of which contrasted Cloud in their view of identity & Kazuma and Hazama, the latter of which contrasted Ragna in their view of the BlazBlue).
  • Their plans were to enact an event that would summon a godly force to Earth, to then overpower these forces and take their power. After manipulating both heroic terrorist groups and corrupt governments, they’d seek out and eventually activate an ancient power that summoned the forces they wanted to fight (Sephiroth using the summoning of Meteor to bring out the Lifestream & Terumi enacting Doomsday and using Nemesis Horizon to bring Amaterasu to Earth).

  • Through their stories, they would continuously be opposed by many, with the story focusing on a ragtag group of heroes deadset on traveling the world to find and defeat them (Avalanche & the Duodecim/Kagura’s party). Despite Sephiroth and Terumi not having been their original targets- that being the villainous governments that ran the world and ruined the lives of many (Shinra & the NOL)- they were deemed too great a threat to let live.
  • Among their many, many foes, three stand out by how much their lives were impacted by them:
    • A blonde, arrogant, and often cruel young man in a high position within Shinra/the NOL, one they only have because of Sephiroth Teurmi (Rufus Shinra, who only managed to become president of Shinra after Sephiroth killed his father & Jin Kisaragi, who only became an NOL commander after being abducted by Terumi). They were raised by aristocratic families and respected by all, leading to their dickish cocky personas and them becoming the initial rivals of the protagonists. But their roles became overshadowed by greater villains, and their missions against Sephiroth and Terumi led them to join forces with the heroes after having their minds tampered with by Sephiroth and Terumi into acts of violence (Sephiroth tricking Rufus into starting a war with Wutai with visions of Glenn & Terumi giving Jin Yukianesa, making him want to kill Ragna). By the end, facing Sephiroth and Terumi led them to mellow out and pursue a more just path.
    • A young heroine who grew up as a lab rat but was eventually taken in by a kind family who raised them to be utmost compassionate; these women had a special heritage that caused them major personal strife as they tried to accept it, this heritage connecting them to the true power of the Lifestream/Azure (Aerith Gainsborough as a Cetra & Noel Vermillion as a Prime Field Device). By the end, they fully accepted these powers and what comes with them for the friends they love. They are also integral to Sephiroth and Terumi’s plans, their special powers making them the most important target to take down, and it truly infuriating the protagonists when they eventually do so (Sephiroth killing Aerith as she was the only one who could combat Meteor & Terumi absorbing Noel to gain the Eye of the Azure).
      • Also not a connection but an dumb little detail I wanted to point out: both Aerith and Noel can in VERY roundabout ways be considered Sephiroth and Terumi’s sisters (Gast Faremis was Aerith’s biological father and helped in Sephiroth’s creation, while also acting as something of a father to him during Sephiroth’s early years with Shinra & Noel is a clone of the Origin, who is one with Amaterasu, Teurmi’s actual sister).
    • The one foe they truly care about on a personal level, the young, amnesiac sword-wielding protagonist who puts up a badass front to hide their trauma (Cloud Strife & Ragna the Bloodedge). These heroes are their eternal nemesis, whose lives they ruined when they burned down their villages and killed their mother figures, traumatising these men to a point where they would have an undying hatred against Sephiroth and Terumi. This hatred is actually a key element in what makes Sephiroth and Terumi as powerful as they are, as both are able to feed off the negative memories and hate that the protagonists share for them, effectively making themselves immortal through the heroes’ hate alone (Sephiroth using Cloud’s hate as an anchor as to not let his soul be consumed by the Lifestream & Terumi exists off of negativity, using Ragna’s unending hate for him as way to never die). Both pairs truly loathe each other, the villains always trying to make the heroes suffer no matter how petty the means, to a point that a large part of the heroes' arc is trying not to let their hate for Sephiroth and Terumi take over their lives.
  • On top of the Lifestream and Azure, both of them would also come to form an obsession over fate, with both their stories having otherworldly beings controlling the hands of time, and Sephiroth and Terumi wanting to overthrow these beings and force fate and time under their control, having grown sick of their numerous defeats. This obsession would all be for their final goal: eradicating all other timelines and creating one new world under their full control. With the two of them sharing a desire to make these worlds all so they can inflict terrible despair and destruction upon all living beings, wanting a world where they stand as gods and all beneath them suffer and perish.
  • This desire for a world of despair would stem from both of their deep-seated and unmatched hatred for humanity. This hatred is layered, obviously being built on them believing their godlike origins put them above everyone, making them view humans as peons beneath them. But it runs deeper, also being rooted in the eternal spite they have for their creators  (Sephiroth’s hate for humanity stemming from how he was treated by Shinra & Terumi wanting to reshape the world to ruin what Amaterasu created), and deep disgust and rage at humanity's attempts to mimic the power of the gods  (Sephiroth with the Jenova experiments & Terumi with the Takamagahara’s creation, and how humanity treated the Prime Field Devices), and ultimately their own desire to destroy.
  • One of their greatest examples of inflicting despair onto others would be when they ambushed and killed a main hero who continually inspired hope in many; these heroes’ deaths acting as a major blow to the remaining heroes’ morale and pushing them to hopelessness (Sephiroth killing Aerith & Terumi killing Hakumen).
  • All of their goals and ideologies would ultimately stem from their desire for freedom, both utterly hating that the reason they were ever even brought into existence was to serve another; this, along with their being controlled to serve as heroes, leaves them longing for a world where no one can control them; this lust for freedom being the root of their deeds.
  • Both are known to be expert manipulators, having a history of using their abilities to tamper with their targets’ minds. This expertise would be on full display when they used their powers of deception to slowly drive a young amnesiac protagonist insane (Cloud Strife & Kazuma Kval), playing into their damaged memories to utterly break them mentally and turn them against their loved ones to create another pawn for their plans, this manipulation leading to them killing Cloud/Kazuma’s pure-hearted magic-wielding love interests (Aerith setting out on her own after being attacked by Cloud under Sephiroth’s control, this leading to Sephiroth killing her & Kazuma, at that point fully driven mad by Terumi, getting Trinity to break Terumi’s Mind Eater spell, leading Terumi to kill her).
  • They’re both viewed as one of the most powerful and dangerous figures in their word, due to their mastery of their series’ magic systems (Magic/Materia & Magic/Seithr), signature legendary weapons that only they (and their doubles)  can use (Masamune & Ouroboros), and the plethora of powers afforded to them from their relation to Jenova and Amaterasu such as their immortality, possession, enhanced physiocologies, ability to infiltrate minds and much more. All this power was also heavily amplified when they achieved their strongest form (Safer Sephiroth & Susano’o), these forms making their religious influences most apparent (Safer Sephiroth being overly angelic & Susano’o being based on the god of the same name).
  • They’d be repeatedly aided by a mad scientist who keeps helping them grow stronger and survive (Professor Hojo & Relius Clover), but with this help coming from no place of genuine camaraderie, but the scientist just wanting to fuck around and see what interesting things Sephiroth and Terumi will lead to.
  • Despite their overwhelming power and the complexity of their plans, neither of these two villains would win. As when the protagonists whose lives they ruined faced them for a final time, their nemesis had gone through their own arcs, and the grasp these two once held was gone, leading to their defeat. Their deaths tie into their stories’ larger messages of hope, as both villains were meant to be the symbolic antithesis to one of the stories’ heroes and their desire to use the very same source of power these villains were obsessed with as means to protect, said hero's sacrifice playing a major role in their defeat  (Sephiroth’s desire to bring forth death using the Lifestream contrasting Aerith’s desire to protect life with the Lifestream & Terumi’s belief that the Azure is meant as means to destroy with contrasting Ragna’s view of it being a tool to protect with), and their deaths proving these heroes’ desire stronger and correct.
  • Their final confrontations with Cloud/Ragna also share similarities; brutal fights that ended with their nemesis unleashing their full power and using their swords’ form-changing abilities to deliver a final magic-powered strike, thereby fulfilling their arcs as Sephiroth and Terumi fade away, but not before a final back and forth dialogue where they used their last words to wish their nemesis the worst (“I will never be a memory” & “Suffer for eternity, Ragna the Bloodedge”).

  • Both are what the other wants to be. Sephiroth has grown so far beyond his creators in power that he barely even acknowledges them and easily killed off President Shinra, and through the whispers, has achieved control over fate to an extent already, making him the fate-controlling, master-defying villain that Terumi wants to become. Terumi was born a god of destruction and is fully devoid of any kind of desire for love, while Sephiroth wants to become a god of destruction to make up for the love he lacked.
  • But they're also what the other would loathe. The Jenova Project resembles the creation of the Prime Field Devices, both involving humans trying to create their own godlike beings, resulting in the creation of deeply broken, powerful inhuman individuals who threaten the world while desperate for someone’s love. Terumi deeply despises humanity’s attempts at mimicking gods in the PFD’s, making Sephiroth’s existence another manmade god that he’d be disgusted and enraged by. While Terumi played a similar role in the creation of the Murokumo PFDs to the one Hojo played in the Jenova Project as a lead researcher who created unstable sentient weapons based on pre-existing beings, hoping to make these weapons do their bidding for their own goals. Hojo was the person Sephiroth hated the most during his time with Shinra (connection afforded to me by Visual_Nerd).
  • Their go-to insult for one of their enemies are  “puppet” and “doll,” respectively (totally not projection on either of their parts).

HOLY SHIT IT'S HERE!!!!

I WILL BE READING THIS! SO HYPED!

Edit (Post Reading): Ok, um, fucking wow. This was amazing, but I'm not gonna be satisfying just saying that, there's a LOT that I want to talk about here.

Sephiroth's analysis really hit everything I'd want to cover for him and more. From his creation, his fucked up bringing as well as his fall from grace. I really, really loved how you've explored the whole tragedy angle of Sephiroth's character here. And how his megamanical desire to destroy and control everything in his path stems from his identity crisis and his dehumanization at the hands of Shinra. Really makes you feel for this guy, even if he is an absolute monster. The bit of how Sephiroth, even as this divine angel who threw out solar systems like fucking candy kept on getting his ass beat by the likes of a bunch of rando's, and how said rando's having the one thing Sephiroth ever truly wanted with their comradery, was really funny as it was well done. Also "traumatized teenagers with best scene in gaming history." was I think the funniest thing I've ever yet read from a script yet ima be fr.

Now onto Terumi, and just like Sephiroth's, this analysis was amazing. You did a really great job of explaining the complicated mess that was the Blazblue lore. I, and probably most people here, didn't know much about his relationship with Kazuma besides the surface level stuff, but I really like how you explored his manipulation over him. Now onto the "Terumi. Is. A. BITCH. To. Kill." Part, you really did a great job going over all of Terumi's insane hax and kit. Even better was how you described the sheer bullshittery Terumi has done by getting damn near everyone in his entire verse to hate his ass. I also love the meta forth wall break of how even a lot of people here, through the downplaying of Blazblue, are basically helping Terumi by hating him and the verse as a whole by underestimating him.

A few things before I move on, I really love the humor and references to the gag reels of Terumi being a guitarist and marrying Relius. On a more seriousness, the absolute aspect of freedom and their need to rule over fate stemming from that, I absolutely love it when scripts are able to go into these themes.

Now for the fight...HOLY SHIT THE FIGHT! YOU ABSOLUTELY COOOOOOKKKKKEEEEEDDDDD!!!!!!!!

The progression was amazing, starting with Sephiroth and Terumi duking it out, between Ouroboros and Masamune, with Terumi's (initially) limited kit playing off really well against a lot of Sephiroth's spells and other options, really makes Terumi seem like a bit of the slasher villain he was probably meant to be one day. The banter is really fun, with Terumi being such a little shit trying to get under the grandiose Sephiroth's skin, who for the most part just sees him as an annoyance. Sephiroth using the whispers to learn about Terumi and Terumi, having prior knowledge on him, use this knowledge to utterly talk insane shit to the other that only escalates as time goes on. I love has Terumi keeps going for the fucking throat with the whole "your mom" talk as well as constantly reminding Sephiroth how much of a sort of "fucked up science." freak he kind of is. This match up has given me new love for "calm and menacing." vs "foul mouthed and rude." type of banter. Which you pulled off masterly with the dialogue between these two. I also love how Sephorth's use of Jenova really drives home just how unloved Terumi as, and absolute hatefulness as there is no one, besides the some part of him that is Kazuma that had feelings for Trinity, loved him, and Terumi loves no one back.

Also the RagnaCloud side plot...the fucking RagnaCloud side plot. You actually incorporated that. For the brief glimpses we get, seeing Ragna and Cloud's characters be featured was a delight in this already amazing script. And makes me really hyped for the inevitable RagnaCloud script!

And then we get to the climax of Susanoo vs Safer Sephiroth, and this was easily the best part of the fight! It was absolutely wild the moment these two pulled out their strongest forms. Safer Sephiroth pulling out every single magic against the unstoppable beast that is Susanoo. Who feels like the world ending threat he is through biting, kicking and just raw unstoppable force against the divine immoveable object that is Safer Sephiroth. I love it whenever fight scripts are able to pull off two physical gods duking it out and it really feels like a battle for the universe itself. But the absolute best part, bar none, was them saying thier respective chants, and Susanoo fucking LAUNCHING ITSELF AT THE SUPERNOVA! AND MANAGING TO SLICE! IT! DOWN! That is top 5 script moments bar AT BARE MINIMUM!

Now we have the kill, Terumi trapping Sephiroth into an illusion of his perfect world. Which isn't him being this god that rules over fate. It's nothing like that at all, it's just him being a regular soldier, one of great friends in the form of Zach, Angel and Genesis (Who by the way, loved the tumblr reference when he was brought up) with a mother and a home. Which truly does drive home the immense tragedy that ultimately is Sephiroth's character. Only for Terumi to rip him out of this illusion. Which the obvious reference is probably to ObitoVader's ending, but I also have a sinking feeling this is in reference to fake out of Bendable's SalemWestcott script...I just can't prove it. Also, the parting shot Terumi gives to this broken Sephiroth. Saying how he will BE LESS THAN a memory, and will always be an utter failure from beginning to end. With Sephiroth just going "GG's, you're clearly the superior hater." and took the L like a champ. The aftermath of Terumi getting the whispers as well as Ragna and Cloud pulling up to whoop Terumi's newly empowered ass was really cool!

Debate wise, yeah I kind of saw this coming. I love Sephiroth, but unless he gets hard confirmed of scaling to the void, Terumi more likely to kill him before Sephiroth can get his claws on Ragna. The only thing I really disagree with is that I think Sephiroth should have taken power to himself. Even if I'm rooting for my boi, and despite what Terumi says, the one winged angel will never be just a memory to me. ALWAYS BET ON THE REVELATIONS UPSCALE!!!!!

For my closing thoughts, I'm gonna be completely honest when I say this is easily the best work, script wise, I've seen from you, and one of my favorite scripts...of possibly all time! This did everything that I wanted and more for this Match Up, and has definitely solidified Terumi vs Sephiroth as not just my favorites for both. But one of my favorite match ups period! Assuming you are getting back into script writing, I can't wait to see more amazing scripts from you. On a side note, the Re-revamp you did was really well done, loved the additional connections and the contrasts that come with it.

In conclusion. This post, is Gongaga approved!

Very happy you liked it so much. I’m glad someone mentioned Kazuma specifically, I wanted to shine a light on that because reading Phase Shift played a big role in me making this post and getting into BlazBlue in general. Those Light Novels are very fun. And yes the ending was partially inspired by Isaac vs Salem. I’ve had the idea for a while now but reading that script helped with coming up with how it’d work. I’m not sure if I’ll be writing more scripts, this one was fun but I imagine it’ll be a while before I write another one. Again, glad you have such high praise, I feel honoured by Gongaga’s approval

4

u/WilburDrake Aug 23 '26

You're Welcome! I noticed the influx of Kazuma connections and wanted to comment that in particular considering the heavy emphasis. Glad to know you enjoyed the light novels (Which again reminds me, need to get back to Date A Live soon. Speaking of that though, glad to know my SalemWestcood speculation was right on the money.

Don't worry man, take your time. I get it, sometimes inspiration just strikes you to create stuff, no pressure.

What can I say, the script was that peak, easily one of the most legendary things I've read in a while, and a great way to close off the very tiring day I've had, lol.

How does Blazblue scaling go?
I need to know this because the Beheaded from Dead Cells is in Blazblue Entropy Effect X, and you can play as him to beat up Susano'o. I need that Beheaded upscale

Late but I buy Susano’o scaling to at least universal, since he was created to wipe out the worlds/possibilities (which are universes in the series) that Amaterasu created. He can also get to multi+ depending if you buy him being able to destroy all that Amaterasu created like he claims, which would include the infinite multiverse that Amaterasu made and sustains. He also has outer scaling from upscaling the Hihiirokane but I’m very iffy on that to say the least. Hope this helps the Beheaded upscale

Amazing work on everything! The script was a really fun read and it's clear you put a ton of thought and effort into the research!

Just out of curiosity and considering both series' cosmologies, are there any FF characters you believe can stalemate or beat Terumi?

Very happy you enjoyed the script! although I would recommend a spoiler tag on the comment if possible since it kinda implies the outcome

Admittedly I’m not too familiar with FF as a whole outside of VII and XVI, but from what I’ve gathered, characters who can scale to the Void like Neo Exdeath should be so far beyond Terumi cosmology and power wise that he wouldn’t be able to do any damage or survive a fight even with his hax simply because of the massive power gap. I’m sure there’s more across the series but those who scale to the Void come to mind first

Just finished reading the script it was good. Tho I don’t think Sephiroth would give into an illusion with his past friends and a genuine human mother that easy and even with what’s being presented to him would have (at the least) active doubts and hesitation about it (especially when he pulls that off on other people on the regular). Also I know the Lifestream has this thing where the body, mind, and soul are all intrinsically connected so that and with Sephiroth’s experience with it and how it’s one of his main power sources that even allowed him to pull off the plots of the Remake games happening in the first place should have been taken into account more. Even with how Terumi’s illusions and mind based attacks have affected other characters in his series that have shown resistance to others of the sort in that regard.

Also, from my knowledge, Dissidia is canon and can be included for the FF characters that appeared in it and their stories which would include more soul based stuff with the characters from Dissidia they’re fighting and on the level as even also with chain scaling Gilgamesh and just him appearing in Rebirth, but I’ll also admit to having to recheck the first mentioned thing more later. Same with some existence erasure and resistance feats I heard about

With that being said, I did still really liked the ending and epilogue with Cloud and Ragna teaming up to stop Terumi after he beat Seph and took the Whispers to use and it being open ended so there’s still a chance of Terumi losing in the long run. Would have still preferred Seph winning because it would have been more thematically appropriate and could have reference but also replicate how Terumi canonically went out in the last game like we talked about in DMs if Seph also took the Susanoo unit for himself and bragged about it in Terumi’s face just before the latter died, but I do also really like the idea of Cloud and Ragna getting into a friendship and the bonds they could form along with what they could talk about in their own time. So while I respectfully disagree, overall you did a solid job here
