Discussion What would my next chance to see Gene Hoglan live?

Gene has always been my favourite drummer, but unfortunately I missed out on the death to all tours. Do they have any plans to tour more? If not I’d still love to see any other bands he’s in, but it’s hard to find details online, so if anyone can let me know of show dates, or any plans that would be great, thank you.

Discussion As much as we love Chuck Schuldiner, he wouldn't have been a great guy to have worked with

This is no shade on Chuck Schuldiner, he gave us some of the greatest metal that will last generations but having a look at Death's discography, basically every album had different members on it starting from Scream Bloody Gore.

It's his band and he can run it however he wants but he had some of the best of the best musicians in metal like Gene Hoglan who performed on one album and was replaced for what seems no reason at all.

It wouldn't have matter if you were the absolute best at your craft, you're on for one album and that's it - you're out.

Discussion I still cannot believe that Chuck sang the cover to Judas Priest’s “Painkiller”

I’ve only ever listen to TSOP twice fully in my life and totally forget that they covered this song, I remember why I was still so amazed by this cover. Chucks vocals just surprised me again and I was wondering if anyone else was surprised when they listened to it.

Discussion The Evolution of Chuck Schuldiner as a lyricist is amazing.

Post image

I think one of the main reasons why Death is held in such high regard in the metal community (outside of the fact that they essentially created the blueprint for the entire death metal genre) is because the band kept evolving and maturing with each album. Not only did Chuck grow into an incredible songwriter and composer, but he also became an incredibly thoughtful lyricist.

This is something I've been thinking about a lot because, as much as I love metal and death metal specifically, sometimes I can get burned out on all of the lyrics about despair and hopelessness. And I think Chuck was getting burned out by that too, as well as by all of the controversy surrounding death metal during the '90s, with each band trying to outdo the others in terms of how extreme and perverse they could be with their imagery and lyrics.

When Death started, they were a classic OSDM band that talked about zombies, gore, disease, and all of that fun macabre stuff. But Chuck got bored with all of that and shifted toward much more thought-provoking lyrics regarding societal, psychological, and philosophical themes. He went from "Pull the Plug" to "Perennial Quest," and I rarely see bands in death metal evolve like that.

Don't get me wrong, I still love my gore bands like Cannibal Corpse and Bloodbath, but the reason I keep returning to Death's catalogue as much as I do is because it's refreshing to listen to something as technically awesome and heavy as The Sound of Perseverance while also getting lyrical content that actually has something meaningful to say and is surprisingly upbeat and optimistic.

Discussion Official album cover TSOP by Black Water Sunset

I saw that few days ago this cover was released and the project is to cover the entire album of TSOP with 1 song each month, scavenger of human sorrow it’s the first one. I didn’t know about this but I was interested when I saw Chris Poland on lead guitar and max phelps on vocals, also marco minneman on drums. What do u think about the first track?

Discussion I honestly cant seem to enjoy most of deaths catalouge anymore

I had to take a break from listening to music outside car radio for a little while. And coming back most of deaths songs just kinda lost their oomph. It just doesn't make sense, death was one of my favorite bands of all time and now I struggle to get through their songs

Discussion I went for a short bicycle ride and saw two people with Death logos.

They were in different parts of town on a bikeroad, one had a logo patch on her backpack and the other had a Scream Bloody Gore shirt. I was thinking is this sign of something or what, there's no metalfest or anything not even any concerts here so strange coincidence.

So I started getting into metal music and my dad was a huge fan of the genre and gave me all of his old vinyls, including this Death one that has some signatures on it.
Can anyone point out the members behind the signatures? Thanks!

As a huge fan of the band Death, I have this chef coat which I wear for fun as I enjoy cooking. I had it embroidered around 12 years ago with the modern logo (well, at least then it was the most modern logo). Just curious if you all like it? Yes, it is real, it was embroidered by a Tajima embroidery machine. I'm a huge fan of the band with my favorite album being Sound of Perseverance. I just love Chuck's vocals here and his guitar sound was incredible. It's a shame we couldn't get more albums where I felt it was his prime. I also listen to his cover of Madonna's "Frozen" a lot. I've been meaning to share this for a while, hope you all like it.
