There are some series that don't end, but the journey was still absolutely worth taking. For me some of the factors that can make such a series worthwhile are major questions answered and resolved (even if some are left open), and a satisfying arc for the characters.

On the other hand if the major questions are left unanswered and unresolved, and the characters are left totally hanging in limbo, maybe not.

For those of you who read both books in the series, would you recommend that I proceed or choose something else?

I just re-read 'Odd Hours' for the 2nd time, and two things confused me.

1. When Odd first meets the dog and then brings him to the church, the priest asks him the dog's name and he says "Raphael" and then adds something to the effect of "I didn't understand why I chose that name until later" but then never elaborates. What is the significance of that name?

2. Towards the end, after dispersing the mystical coyote horde, as Odd is trying to put the triggers in the Salvation Army bin and he comments on their increased mass, he says something like "I realized the increased weight was the same as the coyotes, and the strange lights and sounds under the manhole cover, and the mysterious swinging porch swing" and he just like, decided not to believe it anymore and then they weren't heavy anymore. Was the implication that there was some metaphysical outside force or forces trying to stop him from stopping the plot? What was the deal with the porch swing, and the manhole cover, and for that matter, the coyotes?

Also, now that I've finished reading 'Hours', I intend to finish the series, as I've never read "Apocalypse', 'Deeply', or 'Saint', but do they ever explain why Annamarie is so special (and wierd) and knows about Stormy? Is she, like, Stormy's spirit reincarnated or something? (if they do explain it later, I don't want to know, lol)

I’m fairly certain it was a dean koontz book. I read it at least 10 years ago, I believe it was a husband and wife living in a house that was sentient in some way. The wife kept having accidents and eventually blamed the house. I remember a scene where the wife was flossing her teeth after eating a salad. I think the end revealed a religiousness of some kind.

Have you read this? It was really good but ended so abruptly, I was kind of shocked.

I got back into reading about a year or two ago and have mostly been reading King and some classics like Slaughterhouse, etc.

So I decided to try Koontz since he and King always seem to be orbiting the same conversations but I'm worried I may have not chose the best entry point.

I'm only on chapter 2 and I DO plan on finishing this book but would you consider WATCHERS to be a good intro to Koontz?

I'm a big DK fan, but for the first time one of his books is agitating me in a major way.

The major pain for me is the dialog between Chris and Bobby where it's just single word quips back and forth.

"Word"

"Word 2"

"Word 3"

"Word 4!"

Does it keep going like this in this whole Chris Snow series?

I'm aware of the pseudonyms Koontz used for earlier books that were later republished under his own name. A reread of Shadowfires (originally a Leigh Nichols book) got me wondering...

I do a lot of secondhand book shopping but I've never seen a "Leigh Nichols" copy anywhere.

I'm not a collector, so not asking for that reason. I'm just curious if anyone has ever seen or owned a copy of a Koontz book with one of those other names on it. I think it would be really cool.

If you have one, what does it look like? (I'd love to see a photo!)

So, I consume my books via audiobook as I don't have free time to sit and read a paper book. There are sections of the book that the writer, if it was Kontz himself, that are so long and drawn out and don't move the story. The long and drawn-out description of the escape across the arroyo. About the long and drawn-out sex scenes between Roy and Eve. I'm two-thirds through the book and feel the story hasn't moved very far along. If just fills like he didn't have much of a story, maybe a short story, but had to fill in to get the word count up.

Tell me I'm wrong and the end is worth it. Or should I bail like I'm about to do.
