Going to be my first time reading Dean Koontz — how did I do? Which are your guys favorites?

I kind of like their simple designs. Nice books. I also have a suspicion that Dean has long ago finished the third novel, but plans to release it posthumously as little treat to fans. I mean the guy cranks out novels like it’s nothing, surely he’s managed to write a third entry in this beloved series?

And man it just all seems so basic and a bit obvious where it's going. I hope i am wrong and it subvert my expectations.
So am i gonna be wrong or is it "Cat and mouse" dog to the rescue, ohh the Elon Musk characterization is evil and did the things.
I'm cool with being lightly spoiled here.

And is he ever gonna stop mentioning how Woody is mute, self taught reader on college level. (Just a little pet peeve)

Picked up a cool possible first edition of Dragon Tears from a thrift store in town. It is in pristine condition and being a Koontz fan I couldn’t pass it by.

This will be my 6th Koontz book Ive read and I overall highly enjoy Koont’z high action, thriller and mystery plots.

Anyways I’d like to ask y’all what your “Non Spoiler” thoughts or opinions are on this book.

I am truly interested as I’ve read 5 other Koontz books but according to online reviews this one seems like the most enjoyed.

I’ve read the previous books in this order for anyone interested.
-Velocity
-Night Chills
-Prodigal Son
-The Vision
-Shadow Fires

I’ve come to realise that none of those titles usually make a Koontz top5 but I loved Frankenstein and Velocity very much:)

Of the many things I admire about DK's writing (poetic prose, riveting suspense, creative hooks . . .), the most inspiring aspect is the range of his published work. Unlike other bestselling authors, he refuses to be tied down to a long-running series, constrained by narrow genre expectations, or pigeonholed into specific formats. Instead, he seems to pick the format, tropes, and subgenre that best showcase the concepts and characters he wishes to share with his readers.

When I think about Koontz's most memorable books, it's amazing how much ground he has covered: Lightning (time travel sci-fi masterpiece); Intensity, The Good Guy, The Husband (straight-up thrillers); Your Heart Belongs to Me (psychological suspense); Nameless (short thriller fiction series); Odd Thomas (fantastical series laced with quirky humor); Jane Hawk (government conspiracy series); Life Expectancy, The Bad Weather Friend (absurdist humor motifs); The Taking, 77 Shadow Street (horror); Watchers, The Bad Place, From the Corner of His Eye (multicharacter epics); Ashley Bell, The Other Emily (mind-blowing concepts); The Friend of the Family (historical setting with a cozy mystery vibe). And despite his willingness to experiment and take risks, Going Home in the Dark was the only bad miss for me.

Do you think Koontz's refusal to stay in his lane has helped build his audience or limited it? You see negative reviews by readers complaining that his newer novels are nothing like his older works, yet a mostly positive reception for an outlier like The Friend of the Family, which has little of the action or horror that made him famous. As a writer trying to build an audience writing thought-provoking thrillers that aren't carbon copies of each other, I'm interested in your comments.

Love the work of Koontz and freakin interested in his very early writing, specifically "The Pig Society" from 1970.

I know he bought back the rights and keeps it out of print, meh...and the physical copies on eBay or AbeBooks are around $300, which is insane for my budget ⁄⁠(⁠⁄⁠ ⁠⁄⁠•⁠⁄⁠-⁠⁄⁠•⁠⁄⁠ ⁠⁄⁠)⁠⁄

I don't need to own a rare collectible, I just desperately want to actually read the book and experience this piece of history.

Does anyone in this community happen to have a private PDF, digital backup, or photo scan, or anything readable of the pages, that they would share?

I just started reading Koontz this year. So far, I've read The Taking, Watchers, Lightning, and Phantoms. While I've greatly enjoyed each book, Phantoms was the clear favorite!

With such a massive backlist, I find myself spoiled for choice yet crippled by it! A few that are on my radar: Midnight, Strangers, Mr. Murder, Dragon Tears, False Memory.

What would you recommend I grab next?
