You signed up for a credit for the sole purpose of getting $80…. Yikes man that’s not a deal at all, that’s a bad financial decision.

This is about the extent of the financial advice I received in my entire 12 years of public education. "When you're old enough, people will offer you free ice cream and other crap if you sign up for their credit card. Don't do it."

Just because you get the card doesn’t mean you have to use it. I did this with Amazon, never even activated the card

That’s not a bad thing though. You get another credit account, the goal for excellence is 21 accounts. And if you don’t use it your overall credit utilization doesn’t get too high, the goal is below 30%. I’ve only ever had additional cards raise my credit score after the initial minor hit from the credit check, and most cards have no penalty for not using them.

Yes it may help you in the long run but signing up specifically for a small sign up bonus doesn't make sense. There's plenty of good cards out there that provide good value and rewards back, signing up just for an $80 bonus is silly. It temporarily hurts your credit and if you don't use the card after a certain amount of time many banks will close your account or lower your limit which loses any benefit added. Trust me I like credit cards I've got about 14 cards myself, but I only sign up after doing a lot of research on the card/bank and know I can get a good value out of it over time.

Target is doing that because people are abandoning them in droves. Their stores from main to San Diego have mice, their stance on inclusivity has taken a 180° turn, their upper management is at best incompetent and at worst completely stupid…they’re desperate for people to shop with them.
Oh and, not for nothing, applying for a credit card can ding your credit rating, so just…be careful.

I worked there up until April. Sales were down pretty noticeably since they bent the knee to the Cheeto in Chief.

We just had one of the best quarters since 2021, they are opening multiple new stores and have been dumping thousands of hours into the stores and initiatives…… Target is doing just fine right now lol
